My Favorite High Yield Dividend Stocks Are On Massive Sale

  • As the markets keep falling this year, what’s resulted is a lot of my favorite high yielding dividend stocks now offering even higher yields. Just as one example, a very pleasant sight for me was seeing W.P. Carey experience a really sizable drop recently. As someone looking to load up on more of WPC, I mentioned several months ago that I had been waiting for the price of this stock to go down because it had still be performing really well this year. I also thought is was overvalued when I went over their balance sheet, so when I saw the price drop about 15% in two weeks made me happy enough to pick up some more shares this week. As of the making of this video, this near dividend aristocrat now yields close to 6%.
Even more dramatic has been the drop of Realty Income, which over the last month has fallen about 20%. Despite it being my largest holding, it didn’t make me nervous to see this price drop. Because first off, I invest for dividends, not share price performance. If Realty Income was a stock I relied on for growth, like maybe a Tesla or Nvidia kind of company, then yeah I’d be really concerned. But because I invest for dividend income, seeing dramatic share price falls like what just happen doesn’t concern me one bit. Secondly, Realty Income’s been providing evidence that the monthly dividend it pays isn’t anywhere close to being cut. Their stock’s a dividend aristocrat and hasn’t cut it since being publicly listed back in 1994 on the New York Stock Exchange.

The key to big returns is not big moving stocks. It's managing risk in relationship to reward. Having the correct size on and turning your edge as many times as necessary to reach your goal. That holds true from long term investing to day trading

Have this at the back of your mind. there are good days and there are bad days it’s a zero sum game,
However always follow the tips ,save and invest wisely and make sure to diversify investments so when another is down the other is up. you can do so by getting an experienced firm whose platform has diverse investment choices to choose from. By doing this you give little room for regrets and perhaps gain more.

at 0:45: "I don't mind price drops. I invest for dividends, not share price performance".
Dividend investing newbie, here, so pardon me if I am missing something big and (to most of you) obvious.
I've heard this several times -- i.e. "price drop OK, as long as dividends remain same", and "price drop OK, just means I can buy more shares cheaply".
I do not understand this. If the price drops, then the amount on which the dividend is paid drops too, correct? Or am I wrong? Does dividend somehow remain same even as share price drops?

Two main types of dividend/distribution stock assets. Those where the dividend is on a per share basis and thus the dividend goes up while the asset drops and those where dividend is close to a flat percent per share. Neither are great in a long-term bear market. Per share dividend assets are likely to drop their dividend and the flat percent per share dividend drops as price drops, providing less dividend payouts. The Achilles heal of dividend stocks is a long-term bear market. If in this O stock I would sell January 2024 50 covered calls against my positions. If someone calls it away you still capture $300/100 shares.

When I look at the payout ratios of WPC and O, and REITS in general they are often over 100%, isn't that a little dangerous for their yields, or is this something specific to REITs where it doesn't matter? It's tough to justify buying a 5% dividend stock when 2 year treasuries are 4+% with absolutely no risk... as the Fed continues to increase interest rates... a 5% dividend doesn't get it for me.

Yes but dividend growth stocks give you a raise each and every year, "Yield on cost". Not to mention, you get an increase in the share price when the market returns to green.

This is just a compilation of stock video of people screwing around on smart phones. Realty dividend stocks? There's a significant growing segment of empty commercial buildings and it will increase with a macro economic slowdown. This is not unique or even well researched or informative

Or you could buy s&p500 that lost 25% since its ATH and that has been growing on average 16% per year since 1871. Investing is not about opening a screener and sorting the stocks by decreasing dividend yield. You can't ignore the fact that for example, Ready capital corporation has lost 50% since its listing in 2013 even though the stock is yielding 16% in dividends every year. With capital depreciation, inflation and discounting with the risk free rate, you're not gaining much more than a good stock that yields 3% but grows steadily. And for Realty income corporation, the company pays more dividends than they had benefits in the last year. That's not a sustainable investment.

Indeed. Most of these high dividend payers are yield traps. Continuous decline of principal is the order of the day. Those who are members of the dividend investing religion say they don't care about a declining stock price because it allows them to reinvest at even lower prices, but dividends do indeed get cut or even eliminated during market downturns, and companies go bankrupt all the time. I wouldn't consider investing in anything other than an index because the components thereof constantly shift, only retaining the winners, and therefore you can be assured that it will eventually recover. Not so with individual underlyings, particularly those paying out unsustainable dividends. In this kind of market it's best to stick to selling premium on short-term options contracts and to not take ownership of anything at all.

These companies you mention in the video pay higher dividends for a reason. I won't be buying any of these dangerous stocks.

    - You pay 30% dividend tax in USA.
That's what you don't say!!! Why?
Second, you pick only high- dividend stocks that pay monthly or quarterly dividend? WHY?
    What's wrong with others?

What is the dividend tax rate? The tax rate on qualified dividends is 0%, 15% or 20%, depending on your taxable income and filing status. REITS and BDCs are not qualified so should be in retirement accounts.

I get the tax back when I file my taxes. So it doesn't apply to everyone.
