We are proud of you guys are so intrigued of learning our traditional Baju Melayu! Don't worry my friend, we absolutely have no problem and in fact, we are truly thankful and happy if you guys would love to try our traditional attire as long as you respect and just want to learn new experiences! In Malaysia, it is not unusual for different ethnic groups to try each other's traditional outfit as long as we respect each other's norm and guidelines. Trust me, you will look perfect in Baju Melayu when you do visit Malaysia! Yes it is true the current modernizing era might have changed our Baju Melayu perhaps a little bit, but it is just merely from the outside, the true inner meaning of Baju Melayu still remained unchanged as it is our symbolism that give us identity of Malay which must be protected! Baju Melayu and Baju Kurung is still worn commonly as today like for example going to market, officework, military and school too! I hope you two have a wonderful day! 😊🇲🇾

As a Malaysian, I'm more than happy and appreciate of your willingness to experience Malaysian Malay culture and I'm very proud of that.
There are many Western foreigners who happen to work in Malaysia will surely have this attitre when attending Hari Raya event or some vloggers.
So ...there's no problem about that.
It's just a culture open to everybody.

everybody can wear the outfit, muslims & non-muslims alike.. it's just an attire normally used by the Malays in Malaysia, for special occasions like marriage, religious festivals, official functions.. but it can also be worn for everyday use.. you will not offend anybody if you wear them.. the non-muslims in malaysia also wear them.. it's not so much a 'religious gear' so please buy one or two when you are in Malaysia..

Based on my knowledge, Baju melayu is just our traditional clothes, got nothing to do with islam, the religion. We don't get sin, you know, punished by religion for doing anything to baju melayu( like burn it or step on it). It's just, most things designed based on our religion to represent our belief, as a country.

The single button or the teluk belanga style is more common in the state of Johor where it originated, and Johoreans wear it with the shirt over the kain samping. The cekak musang style is the one most commonly worn for official/formal functions. You can also wear it with 3 buttons which is a modernised version which probably came about because some may find the buttoned collar a bit constricting.
By the way, try and watch the Kumaar Family channel. Husband is Malaysian and wife is American.

Its just a cultural dress, any type of symbolism there is just philosophical not directly related to Islamic tradition, any kind of buttons is okay. . . . . etc
Its different than the 'cross' where it has become the exclusive symbol for the Christian religion, whereby the symbolism attached to the malay dress is purely cultural, nothing to do with the islamic religion. . . . hope thats clear thanks guys, good job what youre doing 👍

Honestly no one should be offended by anyone who would try out the baju melayu,, it’s such an honor for anyone to try out out traditional outfit. It has always been such a respect to the malay culture even when non-malays wear it on any occasions and especially during Eid. Also it does have symbolism, but modern fashion has varied the traditional form in so many ways so there’s nothing to worry

the outfit itself isnt necessary from the islamic teaching but its more of a malay way of clothing from long time ago(even before islamic sultanate come in place). thats why its more of cultural clothing rather than islamic clothing. the one button thing or any islamic symbol that being put on the cloth only come around when islam become more acceptable in malayan kingdom.
as long as the cloth are not being associate with other religion symbol or activities(or other prohibited stuff in islam), no one will care that much tbh.

Some of the main aspects of the Baju Melayu is to exude proper decorum and etiquette in society. Mild-mannerisms and gentleness are the highlights of our culture. Hence, the Baju Melayu is the physical adornments to display them.

Don’t worry it’s not offensive! Do wear it and show us if you ever found one. Although the meanings of the baju is closely related to the Islamic faith. It does not exclude people of other faith, religion or race from ever donning one. Because technically it is considered to be more of a cultural attire rather than a religious one.

Basicaly this were not a realigion clothes, but the melayu(malay) culture that have change to fit the islamic religion rule,it a culture but don't use it the wrong way,for example the sampin,if you use it upper the knees meaning that you're single,if lower part it mean you're married, but if a married person wear sampin upper the knees that mean he wanted to marry another woman(adding wife).the way you tight it,i just preffer you to tight it just like all people do.and this sampin in the old time, they basically 2 type of them one was songket which is use by the royal family and kain sarung/pelikat majority melayu people, but now, everyone can wear the songket one..And the function of this sampin so baaicaly melayu people like to travel yeah bc they are like to travel by the sea,you can sea how different a malay and other part of the world loving their land, example you guy will say i love my homeland, which you only loving the land, but the malay people in ther language say kami sayang tanah air kami, which kean we love our land and sea,so bc they always travel, they will use their sampin as a prayer mat,and somehows we also use it as a weapon, beside the keris.today we use songkok and tengkolok on our hat,but in old time we use tengkolok, different type of tengkolok represent different type and describe a person
