    Made this tonight, turned out perfect. Followed directions and did not stir after it started boiling. I scored it with a pizza wheel. Instead of vanilla extract I added rum extract.

    Thanks for the Video!
    I made this recipe yesterday, substituting regular butter with canna-butter. They turned out very tasty! Being new to candy making, I found your video nice and easy to follow. My candy was cooled on a Silc-pad which may be the cause, but it turned out with some bubbles in it, and the butter was all over the outside of the candy. Also small pockets of butter could be found through out the candy.
    Very good tasting though!

    I love your candy tutorials! I am going to make the home made gummy candies tomorrow for my little girl's 4th birthday party! I have always been a huge fan of butterscotch, and now I know how to make it! I enjoyed making fudge so I know I am really going to enjoy making candy! thank you so much for the tutorials! I hope to see more soon!

    i made this but i think that the flavor is not as strong as i would have liked it
    would try adding artificial butter flavoring next time. i also used a pizza wheel to score, cos that's what i had. turned out great. no need to grease. and i dusted the finished pieces with powdered sugar to stop them sticking together. thanks for the tutorial

    I can't wait to make this. I'm addicted to See's butterscotch lollipops and I'm hoping I can duplicate those the best I can, because See's is soooo expensive! Wish me luck and if you have any advice how to clone See's lollipops let me know. Thanks 🤪🤗🤑

      i hadn't heard of See's until this comment, but wow are they ever! $40 plus $26 shipping for 1 lb box. once you get the hang of candy making, you'll be able to make your own and definitely get a real good thermometer with what you're saving

    Thank you. Appreciated.
    Now I know what I did wrong. A lot of online web recipes don't mention to not stir.
    I intend covering mine with a thin layer of chocolate. It costs 75 pence for a small Dime bar in the UK. There are 100 pence to a British £1, so that's quite expensive for a small treat. Clearly it costs far less to make. Maybe around 35 pence for the same size bar - and I do like thin crunchy butterscotch :)

    Another good, clear video! Now that Autumn has arrived, I think I'll experiment with homemade Butterscotch.
    Do you have a recipe for homemade Israeli style, sesame HALVAH? There seems to be a bit of confusion about the proper cooking temperature.

    How do you clean the pan and thermometer after it must be stuck to them?.

    • @danrt50
      @danrt50  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      just let it soak in some soapy water for a while and it all just wipes off -- though i would recommend using a paper towel instead of ruining a dishcloth...

      Dare I ask, are you able to tell me if this recipe approaches the Holy Grail of butterscotch, the lost and lamented Callard & Bowser recipe? It remains a mystery to me how so beloved and missed a candy has remained unresurrected for so long; there is clearly a demand waiting for it. Did you ever experience it yourself?

    • @danrt50
      @danrt50  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      merloon no, i had to look up the name and saw pictures of the packages; i'm old but not that old haha
      you would have to make this, taste it and let us know.

    How long do have to wait to cool down before you can shatter Butterscotch ?

    • @danrt50
      @danrt50  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Richard Jeffreys it will break easiest at room temperature. the length of time will depend mainly on the thickness of the pan, which is why a thin metal sheet instead of a thick glass pan is preferred here for improved heat transfer.
