    Without doubt, one of the most evocative and finest pieces of British Light Classical music ever composed, a work of pure genius.

    • @oogalook
      @oogalook 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      +Roger Coleman I absolutely adore this piece as well. It combines an impression of the steam locomotive, and also the experience of riding it. We get the whistle's alarming peal, the smooth speed and rhythmic thrumming of the tracks- I love it!

    What adds impact to me is the trail of steam and smoke stretching back the entire length of the train. Marvellous camera work from the plane trying to keep up. Has to be 100+ mph.
    Routine these days but the symphony of mechanical components all playing their parts in unison is a joy to see...
    As a child I listened to Paul Temple on the wireless, and this tune has never left me. Wonderful piece of light orchestral music. I'm in agreement with the poster oscillation9814. 2:07 is magical...

  • @oscillation9814

    Yes, 114 mph, but outrun by A4 Pacific Mallard that still holds the world record for steam at 126 mph. But I remember these in Crewe as a child known then as Duchess Class. All 20th century Light Music is magic to me, Eric Coates being my favourite, but Vivien Ellis composed a masterpiece here.

    Back when we MADE things like this. Lovely looking train, doubtlessly much more comfortable to ride in than today's plasticy, souless sardine boxes with their ironing board seats. The last trains built that were like the Coronations were the BR MK1 and MK2 coaches, and the MK3s. Give me a long-distance service of MK1 or 2 stock anytime. Reliable, seats that were nice and lined up with windows, loos that don't stink...Oh and of course a PROPER Diesel, or Electric loco. I'm too young to recall the splendid Coronation locos LOL. Even the old EMU/DEMU/DMMU's were nice decent machines. Spent many happy hours working for BR ( SR ) on them. Glad I retired when I did.

    • @MrBrinkmaster
      @MrBrinkmaster 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I have always admired the workmanship of the brits - you have magicians inventing and crafting marvelous things - be it in a shed or large a large industry complex. Mass production may be a 'quality' today, but it can't compare with the 'finest'. I'd rather buy one handmade object made in a british garage than 200 things from china through ebay.

    • @Glenn1967ful
      @Glenn1967ful 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am hoping now Branson has gone, Avanti can make the seats more comfortable for standard class passengers. The comfort is poor and the seats too thin, unlike the armchair type seats on Mark 3.
