I loved the video but I think something to point out about Sempiternal, is that the reason it sounds like a generic 2010s metalcore album is because of how influential that album was. It sounds generic now because so many people have tried to copy it. That's why Sempiternal is seen as so influential and widely as BMTHs best album, because it was so important in shaping modern metalcore and has had such a vast effect on the genre
Thrashing Jackson crying be sounding like Krusty the Clown.
Admittedly when it comes to Sempiternal, it’s still a great record, but I think the reason people put on a pedestal is because of Shadow Moses, the sound that bands are still chasing today.
Love that intro. Probably the best one you’ve done
'The election is rigged' 😂 I lost it at this part 🤣. Great video, thanks for doing this 👍
Boy I've seen so many intros of metal channels making fun of elitists, but this one might be the best one so far
10/10 intro lmao
Admittingly I have not listened to much by BMTH pre-Sempiternal but I might check out something like Suicide Season. Great vid as always!
Check out the song "Chelsea Smile" it's a balls to the wall bona fide banger. Just don't watch the music video, it cuts out one of the best parts of the song.
You finally covered the discography of one of my all-time favourite bands! Awesome!
My favourite Bring Me The Horizon record is the one I was first around to see the release of, and that’s There Is a Hell. The usage of choir samples and glitched-out vocals and other stuff was very ambitious for the time and it focused on a lot of things that Oli was struggling with at the time (addiction to ketamine being one of them). They continued with those topics on Sempiternal as well, and the person who really helped Bring Me become the band they are today was keyboardist and producer Jordan Fish. Jordan was instrumental in helping Oli expand his vocal range; I remember reading once that Jordan actually sat down with him and had him practice singing for hours on end. And Jordan‘s electronic flourishes all over the later records were just incredible. I am for sure going to miss Jordan being in the band. I actually met Jordan for a very short time on the last tour he did with Bring Me The Horizon opening up for Fall Out Boy last year and he seemed like a really nice guy! I also really love That’s The Spirit and Amo.
One rupee you could’ve talked about is the EP they did before the first album called This Is What the Edge of your Seat was Made For. It was their attempt at doing a sort of raw primitive almost Norma Jean sort of mathcore sound; I would’ve loved to hear your thoughts on that EP.
For some BMTH were a gateway for them to get into heavier music, but for me they were kind of my gateway into Indy pop music and I will always appreciate them for even going that direction because nowadays I'm also just as open minded!
I constantly see people say they don't get why or where BMTH direction came from.
Glad to see someone finally address that they've gradually been moving in the direction with each release
My ranking
1. Sempiternal 4.5/5
2. Post Human Survival Horror 4.5/5
3. There is a Hell 4/5
4. Suicide Season 3.5/5
5. Post Human Nex Gen 3.5/5
6. That’s the Spirit 3.5/5
7. Count your Blessings 3/5
8. Amo 2.5/5
Sempiternal is so goated 🐐
amo does not deserve this 😭
@@librahz ikr
@@librahz I don’t hate it. Has a few songs I like, but most of it was boring
I've been listening to bmth since 2008. Loved their first 2 albums and hated semp at the beginning.. now I may like their newer stuff better. Nihilist blues is their best song imo. They kill everything that they do tho. Great band overall
Considering how often they switch up their sound, it's inevitable that not every release will work for everyone. But man when these guys nail it I genuinely love them. Post Human 1 is incredible. Also flawless intro lol
Twinkcore sounds like fun
Twinkies are delicious
I just imagine hyperpop with breakdowns tbh
Thank you very much Robert for this video, I've been a huge fan of Bring Me the Horizon since 2016 and I respect and appreciate your honesty. Here are my favourite albums from them:
That's the Spirit
Sempiternal (yes I do disagree with your opinion on this album, I think the hooks on it are great)
Post Human: Survival Horror, and honestly I absolutely love the new one as well. Also no discredit to their old albums, there are some bangers on them too
My favorite BMTH album is probably “Music I Listen To”. I love the weird and experimental vibe of that album. I’m a sucker for Experimental Music in general
This video gave me more motivated to listen to their whole discography (except songs to listen to)
That’s the spirit is such a fun album. I don’t get why some people say it’s boring.
my own ranking:
Count your blessings- 3/5
Suicide season- 4/5
There is a hell- 3.5/5
Sempiternal- 3.5/5
That's the spirit- 2/5
Amo- 1.5/5
Songs to listen to- 1/5
Survival horror- 3.5/5
Nex gen- 3/10
I was honestly shocked when you gave Sempiternal a 2.5/5 because everyone goes crazy for that album. I respect your opinion though 😊
Can't wait for the inevitable BMTH haters drinking game.
This will be the first time we'll have a drinking games in which a band's haters are pissed off instead of their fans 🤣🤣
You say that, but I’ve yet to see anything that would work for a drinking game.
1) Sempiternal
2) Suicide Season
3) That's The Spirit
4) Post Human: Survival Horor
5) There is a Hell....
6) Post Human: NeX GEn
7) Amo
8) Count Your Blessings
9) This is What the Edge of Your Seat Was Made For
10) Music To Listen To
That intro was so funny 🤣
I'm never going to be the guy that tells people their band sucks or doesn't have talent but for me honestly, they just have every aspect of music that I don't like represented in this band lol
They are talented for sure just none of their music is for me personally but I do respect that they change up their music and experiment alot.
10. Amo
9. Music To Listen To
8. This is What the Edge of Your Seat Was Made For
7. That’s the Spirit
6. Count Your Blessings
5. Sempiternal
4. There is a Hell
3. Post Human Survival Horror
2. Suicide Season
1. Nex Gen
And I’ve warmed up to some of Amo over the years but it’s still the weakest in the catalog for me
I have a massive soft spot for bmth with that being said I 100% agree with your list and honestly that’s the spirit is my favorite by them. True friends is a banger
my ranking would probably be:
there is a hell... 4.5/5
sempiternal 4/5
post human survival horror 3.5/5
suicide season 3.5/5
post human nex gen 3/5
that's the spirit 3/5
amo 2.5/5
count your blessings 2/5
Bring me the horizon is the only band from my emo phase that somehow got better for me. I remember I would listen to Shadow moses and Can you feel my heart on the bus and feel all sad and angsty but now I genuinely have fun with the Post human survival horror ep. Haven't heard the new album yet but I will when I feel nostalgic for my teen years
I say they're the only band cause some got worse and some (like My chemical romance and Paramore) I love just as much now as I did back then
Great list Robert I agree human survival is there best work my personal fave of they’re catalog is sempiternal given the core kid in me but all the older records are super solid and don’t deserve the hate same with ammo I love that record!
Awesome reviews! Well done. Here’s my own personal ranking of each BMTH album.
10 - This Is What The Edge of Your Seat Was Made For
9 - Music To Listen To
8 - Amo
7 - Count Your Blessings
6 - Suicide Season
5 - That’s The Spirit
4 - There Is a Hell…
3 - Sempiternal
2 - Post Human: NeX GeN
1 - Post Human: Survival Horror
Sempiternal is a masterpiece for me 5/5.
Postcard: I love to watch a review of every Cult of Luna Record dude, just a suggestion uwu.
Did u miss nxt gen but I love the white pony vibe on nxt gen well the two songs in that style I’d love to see a full album done in that guitar tone
Any ways favorite bmth album would be “That’s the Spirit” even tho I’m more into deathcore metal core but they stayed away from going into a softer metal core direction and totally created there own vibe and I love BMTH
Did not miss it, did a separate review for the album a few days ago.
Suicide Season is probably my favorite of theirs
Oli's vocals aren't great on that album but it has such a raw sound
Love hearing your perspective dude. And obligatory fuck the elitists
Count Your Blessings came out in 2020? Lmao. Oops on that mistake
Yeah that confused me at first too
Uhhh actually yeah it time traveled from 2020 to 2006!! DUHH!!!
@@themetalmeltdownofficialyeah I would say that count your blessings is actually a little older then like 2008
@@themetalmeltdownofficialcan you please review witherfall sounds of the forgotten I normally hate power metal really but witherfall are awesome there actually very good
I am sorry but I actually hate amo
Love this video! I enjoyed listening to your opinions, and the intro is funny.
I love this band, my ranking is:
1. Sempiternal (5/5)
2. Suicide Season (4.5/5)
3. There is a Hell (4/5)
4. Post Human: Survival Horror (4/5)
5. Count Your Blessings (3.5/5)
6. That's the Spirit (3.5/5)
7. Amo (3.5/5)
(I haven't listened to Music to listen to, but I'll check it out in the future)
There is an EP you missed though, "This is What the Edge of Your Seat Was Made For" released in 2004. It's even messier than CYB but still fun and decent.
In America we have the electoral college, so 49% is still a win here. If you ever need someone to come over and feed Mr. Jackson when you're out of town, no problem, I've had cats like him before.
Despite disagreeing with almost all of your opinions, I enjoyed this video
Great review! and amazing intro LOLOLOLOLOL
Just saw you givin a 2.5 to sempiternal, I'm so sorry for what is about to happen to you
If people can't handle a different opinion, thats on them, not me.
I really liked this video, but I think that when you talked about Underground Big you really missed everything, you didn't talk about the 2 features and the refrain which I find very catchy and memorable, then the last part is not at all the band talking about making music😂I know you were probably being ironic, but if not so, you should have paid more attention to that
Unrelated, but have ya heard As I Lay Dying's new song? Wonder what ya think about it?
Yeah you can lose this Jackson character as soon as you like.... this is my second exposure to it and it's insufferable.
No one told you to watch. That’s like watching the Barbie movie even after you call it horrible. No one told you to sit there and watch it.
Nice hat! 🤘
Let's gooo Suicide Season enjoyer!!! I agree with you, I love that's albums mix of 90s hardcore and post hardcore. The riffs are so fucking hype and fun to listen to.
Does anyone notice that the date is wrong in this video for Count Your Blessings?
oops
@@themetalmeltdownofficial hey it happens, haha
The election was so rigged it changed the date
BMTH, A band I moreso respect for what they are doing and trying. I respect that they have done something different with every release especially for a band as big as them. I’m always interested, but besides Count Your Blessings, There is a Hell and Post Human Survival are the only albums/eps I’d go back to. The rest just left me extremely underwhelmed.
My favourite album is either Survival Horror or NexGen
So many absolutely fucking horrid takes lmao. Only album in their discography that’s bad is Music to Listen To… The Post Human “EPs” shouldn’t even be considered EPs. The amount of time it took for NeX Gen to come out is reasonable.
1 - Sempiternal
2 - There Is A Hell
3 - Amo
4 - Post Human: Survival Horror
5 - Post Human: Nex Gen
6 - Suicide Season
7 - That's The Spirit
8 - Count Your Blessings
9 - Music To Listen To
Count your blessings was released October 2006 not 2020
Meh I'm not going to be as negative as Thrashin' Jackson, but I really don't care that much for this band. But to suggest something that he'd enjoy, how about reviewing every Exodus album for your next episode?
maybe some day
My top 3
There is A Hell
Sempiternal
Post Human Survival Horror
ive not been much of a fan since Thats The Spirit. CYB is my favorite era of the band, mainly cuz I love really dumb juvenile deathcore
Thrashin jackson looks like hes going through a mid life crisis😂
Im someone who isn't huge on bmth .But a casual listener im thinking their alright and you listen to them I respect them for doing their own thing. But man im not huge on count your blessings and ammo good lord how could people enjoy those. Both those are my worst in my opinion
I feel like this channel has gone downhill since Posehn Grandpa Metal. I'm rockinf that album right now!!
You’re insane. Sempiternal is their absolute best album and one of the best Metalcore albums of the 2010s.
listened to sempiternal recently and I agree with what you say, I wanted to like the record so bad but the hooks fell flat for me lol, though im curious about their later stuff since they have such a diverse discography
Poor thrashin jaxon
Oh nvm
I just cannot get behind this band. I have tried. They just feel... mid. And not a fun mid.
I can't put my finger on it. But everytime they pop up... i just feel there are other bands doing either the same better, or the same so worse that I find it interesting.
Same. I've given them many chances but they fail every time.
I only got into them when post human dropped and kind of worked backwards from there but I still cant connect to the earlier stuff. But I wont mind when their songs come up in a playlist
And that's how democracy shows its limits. 😁Still watching the video, though.
Hahahaha
Best video since your long hair testament video.:)
Feel the same.about the albums.
Next.
#bmth
Not a fan but Lowenbrau is delicious 😋!!!
Not a fan of the band at all, but the intro slaps 😂😂
Thrashin Jackson 😂
1/5
Honestly Count Your Blessings and maybe the first ep is the only BMTH I can really rock with. Right after that album they began using that awful vocal approach and making overproduced pop metalcore. I suppose I have a soft spot for raw myspace deathcore. I don't plan on listening to any of their poppier shit either so count me the fuck out😭.
Bring Me the Horizon is a very boring band for me care for nowadays but the song “And the Snakes Start to Sing” is a truly one hell of a song. If they kept making songs like that or Hospitals of Souls or House of Wolves I would have been a fan but they are so meh……
They have some good songs but their albums are a mess imo
My ranking:
1. There is A Hell 5/5
2. Amo 5/5
3. Post Human: NEx gEN 4.5/4
4. Suicide Season 4/5
5. Post Human: Survival Horror 3.5/5
6. That’s The Spirit 3.5/5
7. Sempiternal 3/5
8. Count Your Blessings 2.5/5
