I bought a pair of Nike's about six years ago for $100 and I got compliments all the time but they started making my feet hurt so I gave them to a homeless guy and he was all smiles. The price tag on them now is too much for my income.

Correction: There was no Hitler Youth when Dassler was a kid. The Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory made athletic shoes for all people. Yes, this included Hitler Youth.
The Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory also gave shoes to Jesse Owen in 1936 Owens used to destroy every other Olympic Track star. This act brought the Dasslers before high ranking Nazi Party leaders for interrogation as traitors. They gifted Lina Radke shoes before that. Radke was photographed with the Star of David on her running gear.
Finally, a Jewish family spoke on behalf of Adi Dassler during the denazification of Germany. That testimony, along with the Jesse Owens story and the fact there was no evidence Dassler ever conspired with te Nazi Party, is why adidas exists today. Adi Dassler was allowed to return to shoe cobbling.

As someone who doesn't care about basketball, sneakers, and just a casual MJ fan, this movie might be my favorite this year. Well acted, directed. Interesting to hear that Sonny didn't go to the parents directly, since that was a major plot point of the film.
One thing I thought was fake was when Marlon's character talked about MLK's speech and having a copy. Pretty crazy it's true

Inall, thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Great motivation and to see the future of MJ in that time... Man, have to admire their far sightedness who saw his potential and to bet on single guy who was considered short for the game. Thank you for team AIR for taking us back in time.

It was a great movie. As usual, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have a great onscreen rapport, regardless of the characters they're playing, and did a great job in their roles (as did Jason Bateman and Viola Davis in theirs). They even managed to get away with never really showing Michael as a character, because they didn't want to take away from our memories of the real Michael Jordan as we all know him, and because the story's as much about Nike as it is him and his shoe. Great movie - would watch it again and highly recommend it.

What did I think of it? It LOVED it!!! I should start off by saying that "Good Will Hunting" is my favorite movie of all-time, so needless to say that I was excited about this one, but I am not a basketball fan AT ALL. That didn't really matter to me going into it because I could tell that it wasn't going to be about basketball or even about Michael Jordan. But it was the definition of a "feel good movie." It's just such a great story and it's even better to know that it's true. All of the actors did incredible jobs and I loved seeing Matt and Ben working together again. (Plus, let's face it, Ben Affleck just doesn't direct bad movies.) Matt's speech when they're pitching to Michael is perfect. I think he's definitely going to get another Oscar nomination for this performance. And as a child of the 80s, I loved the music.
It's just the kind of movie that you watch and it makes you really happy. That's kind of rare these days, but it's also important. This definitely gave me a big rush of serotonin. LOL

*My* *Favorite* *Needle* *Drops* *From* *Air* *(2023)*
    (courtesy from ScreenRant and Variety)
“Money for Nothing” by Dire Straits - This Dire Straits song plays during Air’s opening montage highlighting the 80s as a whole - Ghostbusters, Princess Diana and Prince Charles standing in front of cameras with their infant son, and more showcase the decade’s earliest, and most remembered, moments.
“Atomic Dog” by George Clinton - Funk musician George Clinton’s song plays during the introduction of Ben Affleck’s Phil Knight, co-founder and CEO of Nike, arrives at the office.
“Legs” by ZZ Top - This tune is heard when Matt Damon’s Sonny Vaccaro goes to meet with Marlon Wayans’ George Raveling, then an assistant coach on the 1984 Olympics team that Michael Jordan played on.
“In a Big Country” by Big Country - The Scottish rock band’s song is heard on Sonny’s drive down to North Carolina to meet with Viola Davis’ Deloris Jordan in person.
“Ain’t Nobody” by Chaka Khan - Chaka Khan’s memorable song plays when Jason Bateman’s Rob Strasser goes to find Sonny after he had a very tense meeting with Phil about the deal for Michael Jordan.
“Let It Whip” by Dazz Band - This R&B/funk band’s single can be heard when Sonny goes to visit Matthew Maher’s Peter Moore to design what would eventually become the Air Jordan.
“All I Need is a Miracle” by Mike + The Mechanics - “All I Need is a Miracle” plays when Michael Jordan and his family arrive to meet with Converse.
“Can’t Fight This Feeling” by REO Speedwagon - One of REO Speedwagon’s most famous hits plays during a scene of Phil jogging, as he’s mulling over the decision to back the Michael Jordan deal or not.
“Computer Love” by Zapp - The funk band’s song is heard when Sonny sees the Air Jordan shoe design for the first time.
“Sirius” by The Alan Parsons Project - The British rock band’s hit plays when Phil pulls up to Nike headquarters on the night before the big meeting to tell Sonny that he’d made his final decision regarding the Michael Jordan deal.
"I Can Dream About You" by Dan Hartman - The Pointer Sisters‘ "Jump" (For My Love) is what was actually played at Nike’s HQ in the scene when Michael Jordan visits. It’s what’s playing on the screen. Instead, the film ended up using Dan Hartman’s ‘I Can Dream About You,’ and that was a last-minute change. That change was more about why a song like that just wouldn’t appeal to a sports figure. Dan’s song is a little mellow and it worked out better.
“Time After Time” by Cyndi Lauper - Cyndi Lauper’s timeless hit is heard during a montage of Sonny going through his daily routine as he stressfully waits for the call from Jordan’s agent about whether the basketball player will sign with Nike.
“Be Like Mike (I Wanna)” by Teknoe - “Be Like Mike” plays as the credits roll, and the real Michael Jordan, in archival footage, is shown talking about his mom Deloris.
"Beverly Hills Cop Theme" / "Axel F" - Harold Faltermeyer - Was played I believe twice in it including near the end when Sonny Vaccaro was ready to make a run. ScreenRant doesn't mention this but Variety does.
My least favorite song is "Born in the U.S.A" by Bruce Springsteen which I didn't feel fit near the end for a movie about a Black athlete but I don't mind it after a few rewatches. My favorite Springsteen song remains "Hungry Heart" which was heard in Warm Bodies (2013) followed by "Streets of Philadelphia".

    9. 8-Bit Christmas (2021)
    10. Good Boys (2019)
Air makes a great Mother's Day movie.
The origin from Nike's slogan "Just Do It" is from the firing squad execution of Gary Gilmore. His final words: "Let's do it."
ADIDAS: All Day I Dream About Sex
    Puma: Please Use My A**
All the actors were pretty great in it. David Falk's character was hilarious ala Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder (2008). Justin Bateman, Chris Tucker, and Marlon Wayans were great.
I even enjoyed the Black guy from the 7-Eleven talking about how he doubted MJ for being too small to dominate only to say "I knew, we all knew" at the end. Matt Damon and Viola Davis were the real stars of the film. This was a Sonny Vaccaro/Deloris Jordan film.
I thought the weakest link among the actors was actually the director for it. Not that Ben Affleck was bad in it. He was still terrific. Had some great lines. But I guess he didn't need to stand out over Matt and Viola since he's directing it. I still think Ben Affleck is the best Bruce Wayne ever.
    _
Sonny Vaccaro: [to Michael Jordan] Forget about the shoes, forget about the money. You're going to make enough money, it's not going to matter. Money can buy you almost anything, it can't buy you immortality. That, you have to earn.
I'm going to look you in the eyes and I'm gonna tell you the future. You were cut from your high school basketball team. You willed your way to the NBA. You're gonna win championships. It's an American story, and that's why Americans are gonna love it.
People are going to build you up, and God are they're going to, because when you're great and new, we love you. Man, we'll build you up into something that doesn't even exist. You're going to change the f**king world. But you know what? Once they've built you as high as they possibly can, they're gonna tear you back down - it's the most predictable pattern.
We build you into something that doesn't exist, and that means you have to try to be that thing all day, every day. That's how it works. And we do it again, and again, and again. And I'm going to tell you the truth.. You're going to be attacked, betrayed, exposed, and humiliated. And you'd survive that.
A lot of people can climb that mountain. It's the way down that breaks them, 'cause that's the moment when you are truly alone. And what would you do then? Can you summon the will to fight on, through all the pain, and rise again?
Who are you, Michael? That will be the defining question of your life. And I think you already know the answer, and that's why we're all here. *A* *shoe* *is* *just* *a* *shoe* *until* *somebody* *steps* *into* *it.* *Then* *it* *has* *meaning.* The rest of us just want a chance to touch that greatness.
We need you in these shoes not so you have meaning in your life, but so that we have meaning in ours. Everyone at this table will be forgotten as soon as our time here is up - except for you. You're gonna be remembered forever, because some things are eternal. You're Michael Jordan, and your story is gonna make us want to fly... 🐐

This video states that Jordan didn't make varsity in high school. Jordan didn't make varsity as a freshman or sophomore. He made varsity as a junior and senior. He played JV as a sophomore which allowed him to have more playing time.

the kick flip that dude was doing in the nike parking lot, wasn’t happening that early in skateboarding yet, outside of freestyle, i’d bet a pair of Jordans that the only person doing kick flips on a skateboard at that time was Rodney Mullen.

I was a young teen during this era and Nike was never considered an off-brand company. Nike was always the coolest brand back then. Air Force and Legend were already out and nothing was better. Sure, Converse and Adidas may have signed more stars but Nike was still the best brand in many people's opinion

    • @WoWo37

I was 12 when Jordan signed with Nike. It wasn't an off brand, but it wasn't known for basketball. They were third behind Adidas and Converse when it came to basketball shoe sales.

Probably would have liked it more if I didn't know the story and the people involved. My wife liked it but I just couldn't get over Matt Damn playing Sonny Vaccaro and how many things were changed in the name of 'drama'. At times it felt like the only parts that were true were the names of the people and companies involved. Even beyond the fact that Matt obviously looks nothing like Sonny, they changed his entire personality. And I felt like they really glossed over the roles Howard White and George Raveling played.
Although Affleck was good as Phil Knight and both Viola Davis and Julius Tennon were *outstanding*

Michael Jordan was a National Champion and a 2 time Consensus All American. He was not really an underdog. Everyone knew he was going to be great. It was just that before Jordan the high scoring guard/wing types were not expected to lead teams to Championships. Julius Erving won an NBA title but, Adrian Dantley, Alex English and George Gervin did not. Everyone knew Jordan would score a lot of points but, the dominant bigs like Hakeem and Ewing were the ones expected to lead their teams to championships(And Hakeem eventually did).

    • @sandal_thong8631
      @sandal_thong8631 ปีที่แล้ว +1

They said they couldn't afford him. Also, that people didn't think he'd be a superstar, including the guy at the mini mart. Not sure why this video said he was an underdog though. That sounds like someone who wasn't picked in the draft, or picked on the last round.

No, everyone did not know he was going to be great. People knew he would be good for a small player. But back then if you were not a big man you were pretty much a nobody. Even still, no one saw how good MJ would be nor his impact on sports.

1 more wrong item 🙂 - The kickflip in the parking lot in '84 seems historically inaccurate. Nobody into street skateboarding at the time was doing kickflips (freestyle skateboarding sure... Mullen), and perhaps Gonz was probably working on them at the time, as well as trying to incorporate kickflips and other tricks into street skating, but I'd say definitely not in '84 timeframe. I'd also say especially not such a solid flicked kickflip as well, as most were mob steez at the time. If you had a solid kickflip in '84, then you might as well have started looking to become pro.

    • @shawn-zx9xt
      @shawn-zx9xt ปีที่แล้ว

Also very few people that age and size current day can still do kick flips let alone on a board like that. There are former pros that look like that that can't kick flip anymore.
Hands down the weirdest part of the movie. I wondered the same thing, when did Rodney even land his first kick flip?
