Cambodians always blaim Thais stole all their culture people and land. While Thais say it is their culture and have every records, evidences while Cambodians just refer to the wall of Angkor Wat which was built by Ancient Indians. Cambodians have no ideas to restore it, but Indians and Thais do.
Thailand has beautiful traditions. Dressing in national costumes from past to present has been passed down for hundreds of years. It has been updated with every era to keep it up to date. Because of Thai culture, dress, Thai food that is famous all over the world and many other things, Thai boxing, Khon performances, celebrities, Cambodia wants to attract tourists from Thailand so it must be claimed. Because it is a simple job that can be done without investing a lot of money and wasting time on design and development.

Cambodia was Siam (former name of Thailand) colony since Ayutthaya era through first half of Bangkok for 4 centuries before France took it in 1867. In the past, Thai king will adopt those who will serve as kings in his colony from an early age which received training to learn language, customs, and various cultures from Thailand. Thai Khon is also a culture that has been passed on. But it's just the basics. The script used by Khmer is only a part. The play is an adaptation of the Indian Ramayana. The invention of the Khon mask is Thai and has intricate details which Cambodia cannot imitate. We can't compare the highest level of Thai classical dance with an ordinary street performance.

The masks in the picture at 1:49, are the masks that use for the same character (KING RAM or RAMA) the main character in the RAMAYANA EPIC from INDIA, the very well known story in most of the countries in SE ASIA .
In this picture are the masks from 5 different countries.
The story had been carved on the wall of ANKOR TEMPLE so the CAMBODIAN claim that the story was originally from their country and played also originally from them.
But the people that knew about this art are mostly wiped out during the KHMER ROUGE era, so this art in their country had been re-establish by THAI ARTIST by the help of UNESCO but they can't accept that and said we stole theirs culture again.

Khmer were slave of kingdom of Siam for hundred year, that is why they influenced by Thai culture and try so hard to claim everythong.
That picture of the mask with "Original" text is not ment to mean Cambodia is the original. It's just piss taking of the quality of the masks of Cambodia, because Cambodia likes to claim they were the originators of the masked dance (with no evidence), but is in fact a poor imitation of the Thai masked dance.
