    I love that you're teaching people about horse's hooves. It's honestly kinda annoying when people would argue with me about shoeing and say I'm being 'rough' with the frog (I was cleaning it because I didn't want the horse to get thrush) I think people believe the frog is sensitive because it covers up the more sensitive material?

    • @UnprofibleServantDen
      @UnprofibleServantDen 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It was only about a year ago I learned horses shed their frog. And I was taught to be careful wheb picking around the frog. I winced while he was cleaning it until I remembered that trimming frogs and shedding them is actually pretty normal. Definitely a cool video.

    • @pyro-millie5533
      @pyro-millie5533 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah.. if a horse is sensitive around their frogs, that’s a sign that there’s *trouble* brewing, and is not at all normal. Ofc you wanna be careful not to like stab through that groove or anything, but like you gotta get it clean so you’re horsey’s feet stay healthy and *avoid* putting them in pain from an infection, ya know?

    I have such an enormous respect for farriers- artisans who use their hands, take pleasure in a job well done, and aren’t afraid of a little sweat and a little dirt. The feet make the horse.... and a good farrier makes the feet.
    I feel you all go unrecognized, and under appreciated more often than they should. You’re mathematicians, problem solvers, Magyver, a bit of Indiana Jones, alchemists, and offer unbelievable patience and compassion. More often than not... weight lifters, babysitters, horse trainers, and at times ... saviors and heroes.
    Than you
    Wonderful video and explanation

    My only experience with horses is a few rides decades ago and visiting my aunts farm once every year. However, despite not being around horses on a regular basis, I find your videos to be intriguing and relaxing at the same time. You do your work extremely effeciently yet still give the animal time to relax and rest between sessions. Then the results are concrete as you can see them stand tall and proud. I can just imagine the sense of relief some of them feel when they have their hooves properly taken care of. Thanks for making such great content and for being so kind to the animals you see!

      They can get downright pissy when they don't like what's going on. My AQH once lifted her stall door off its tracks because I was taking too long to bring her her dinner! I popped out of the feed room when it came crashing down and she climbed over it, stood in the aisle, and stared at me like, "Well? Where's my hay, woman?"

    Wow , what a nice job . You really are talented . When I was 15 I owned a quarterhorse mare . Shortly after I saved her from an auction for dog food , while riding her she stared tripping and quickly became unrideable. The first vet said she was old , lame and instead of wasting lots of money on her I should just medicate her and not ride her . He prescribed phenylbutizone and my horse was wasted . Did nothing but sleep . Firing that vet was the best thing I could have done for her . The new one x-rayed her right in my driveway and told me she had a sore navicular bone which was very hard to treat but if I wanted to try he would help . He prescribed degree pads for her to be shod with . I don't remember exactly the measurements but they were quite steep . I didn't ride her right away but just let her get used to them and heal . I started lunging her and in about a month I was riding her again . He and my farrier saved her life .

    I swear, I could watch farrier work all day long. Makes me so happy to see a ragged foot (not that this one was was ragged or anything) turned out pretty again! Haven't see much specialty farrier work and I find that particularly fascinating! Prayers for this mare to return to soundness. Thank you for sharing! When I am stuck at work, I love to watch these videos to remind me of why I am stuck at work so I can enjoy the barn time later because horses ain't cheap! LOL! Take care and be safe!
