Pat Phoenix acting masterclass (Elsie Tanner breaks down in front of Mike Baldwin) (29 March 1978)

I've seen many of Pat Pheonix's performances as Elsie Tanner in Coronation Street. Without a doubt this scene is Pat's greatest ever performance.
Written by longstanding Street writer Adele Rose, Mike Baldwin calls on Elsie as she has not shown up for work. She tells him about being picked up by a man in a bar who thinks she is a prostitute. This is on top of her divorce from Alan Howard. Elsie pours her heart out to Mike; she is depressed and her lost her self respect and feels as though the Elsie she knew has died.
This is a remarkable scene and a pivotal moment in the character's history. Beautifully played by Pat, she wears no makeup and is truly bearing her soul. Just superb.
