When you cerakote parts there is an extensive prep process for parts. Not only degreasing prepped parts with acetone but also flashing off the metal with heat to get rid of anything trapped in the pores of the metal. Uncle Tony uses the torch method to paint parts. Makes alot of sense to flash parts off before coating so it doesnt flash off during heat cycles, causing coatings to lift off. Simple
I got a new set of Sanderson and the welding leaves a lot to be desired. Inside the collectors, the welding and assembly quality is.... Need to spend about 3 hours with a carbide fixing the mess ... Or just say, so what. Then paint them. Thanks for your input.👍👍😎🇺🇸
What's the paint look like these days? Mine are rusty with some paint here and there. My research found some guys coating the headers with ATF and running the engine . Like hot bluing steel. But have to remove rust. My next project. Cheers.
At a quick glance, in the video photo, it looked like a large black root of a tree or some sort of plant, upon closer look up, its just long black engine headers.
I did a set of headers on my 85 vetted they looks exactly the same as yours or pretty close,they are the cheap headman, I stripped the paint and scuffed really good and clean then coated with vht flame proof primer and then black vht header paint ,I cured the paint on the car and everything was fine till the first ride painted burned off and look like crap now.
Wait did you burn it to bake the new paint or burned it to help prep to paint them new? It looked like they were already painted black nicely? I may have missed something, apologies!
Yes... The black paint that was on them was the non-high temp paint sprayed on at the factory. So burning with the torch it cured the black paint and also prepped the surface for the silver paint.
@@Poopdogsays gotcha! I thought that was primer you sprayed on at the end. And I only assumed that simply because of all the nightmare stories of the paint burning off right after you get them installed.. No Bueno. So I want to make sure I do it this way, and correctly. Cause I love that you're using a butane torch to cure it. I was thinking the oven, box and a blow dryer, or just have to wait until it's 100 degrees outside to cure it 😂

when you opened that hood, it looked like i was looking at my 92.. same headers , same valve covers... i did mine in 2007.. still no rust..

Can the torch be use to clean chrome headers from a motorcycle?
No!!! It will "blue" chrome pipes! Try chrome polish and mothers mag wheel wool. You can find it at an auto parts store.
