Real quick; Durandal is a sword, the blade of the Paladin (holy knight) Roland, in the story "The Song of Roland". Set during 8th century, it revolves around Roland and other Frankish (nkt French, that didn't exist yet) knights in service of Charles the Great fighting the push by the Muslim caliphate (I forget which one, it's been a while) that controlled the Iberian peninsula. Specifically, it describes the battle of Roncevaux Pass in 778. The sword is described as "bloodied to the gold" (the guard at least was gold or golden in color) and served as a reliquary, alledgedly containing a few strands of thread from St. Mary's Dress, some of St Basil's blood, and so on. It was so valuable that Roland attempted to break it when the battle was lost and he was afraid of capture, rather than letting such a relic fall into enemy hands, but it would not break when he attempted to smash it against the rocks.
Thanks for your complete explaantion of this French legend. To complete the story, the legend says than when Roland tried to break the sword it broke the rock instead and opened the Roland Breach (passage between France and Spain).
Can someone tell me where I can read the tale of Roland the most info I could find amounts to "Roland was the hero in the song of Roland" and I mean the unabridged version
I'm pretty sure the Muslim leader during the 8th century was Sulaimon though his reign might have been much earlier It all depends on whether or not this was before 4 after the Knights Templar started participating in wars
Actually it's just a really big sword that a young red haired prince uses, but only on horseback, he also teleports behind people with his horse of course
Charles the great didn't do anything like that. It was his grandfather Charles Martell that did that. Charles the great mainly fought against the Germans and Slavs in the east.

Just a small clarification for you Tekking : France isn't the only country where French is an official language, or at least, a dominant one. Just like the British, France had a huge colonial empire and that's why a lot of countries aside from France do speak French. I'm personally from Morocco where French is actually kind of dominant and became part of our culture. And yeah, during the 17st century, a "bourgeois" wasn't really in the noble class but was rather a rich dude that made money by himself, but had most likely modest and poor origins and isn't part of a noble family.
I think that, he was mostly refering to France because the style of the character is mostly inspired by the mainland French culture, even though it's true French is spoken in many other countries but of course with cultural differences.

Tekking, please. Durandal DUR-RAN-DAHL, you were killing me this whole episode with dur-ron-dle Also Durandal is a sword and a part of Roland's myth but it has Italian/Roman origin being possessed by the Italian figure Mandricardo before Roland and Hector of Troy before Mandricardo
Oda draws male characters with small irises except for Cavendish. Some characters you can’t identify their eye colors, like Sanji who happens to got blue eyes when Law shifted his heart in Nami’s body!
Bourgeois actually means upper class (but still not nobility). So probably a kingdom of rich merchants or so. Bastille was a fortress at Paris and symbol of the french monarchy. It was destroyed when a revolt broke into it to adquire weapons. It was the starting point of the French Revolution. Btw, I know it's a Dexter Lab reference, but it's "omelette de fromage", instead of "du fromage".
Bastille is a castle in Paris, that was used by the nobility (Burgeoisie)as a state prison. It was later stormed and taken during the French Revolution and has since been a symbol of Republicans (as in actual Republicans, not the american version) and early democracy, as well as the fight against Burgeoisie oppression. So yeah, there's a good chance Vice-Admiral Bastille, Cavendish and the Burgeoise Kingdom are somehow connected.
It was Michelangelo who painted the ceiling of te Sixteenth Chapel The Bastille was a big fortified prison with intelectuals, political enemies and high class members who had angered or opposed the king, Louis XIV, among other prisoners. The storm of The Bastille meant the beginning of the French Revolution.
He could have given the Fruit to his horse. Hakuba riding a burning horse would be even more terrifying and it would give the horse a similar split between noble steed and horse of the apocalypse.
What if the reason Hakuba slices randomly is because hes blind and uses sound to find anyone to cut down. Cause when I saw the episode when he slices Derringer down Gladius was kinda quiet and statying still telling him to get out of there also his eyes are pure white so its kinda a dead givaway but only when he's Hakuba.
Belgian Fan of yours here, really love what you do ! I just get irritated when people say "omelette du fromage" beacause it's just wrong lol. Should be "omelette au fromage" if you wondered...
The sword Durendal is more or less a French version of Excalibur. It made its debut in "The Song of Roland" ~a real life paladin of king Charlemagne~ that narrate the legendary feats of Roland in the battle against the Saracens (medieval Muslim Arabs). The sword itself has different origins like being given by an angel to Charlemagne and then passed on to Roland, or being forged by Wayland the Smith ~Galan the Forgeron in French~ a forge/blacksmith deity (kinda like Hephaestus in Greek mythos). Hope it helped giving you a bit of interest on the French/European history there! You should really give it a try, especially French and British history (almost 1000 years of war between them 2!!) and some legendarium associated like Arthur. ps : an English translation of the Song of Roland : www.yorku.ca/inpar/roland_crosland.pdf

As one of the only french man that probably watches Tekking i will commence : 1- Honestly french sounds fancy just because french people market themselves as elegant to the outside world, you associate the language with the image of the people. Personally i always found British to be the fancy pants language. Also if you live in france you'll see how the french talk in a much less fancy version of french. 2- Bourgeois is high society people, not nobility, the rich working class trying to appear more important then nobles. 3- Bastille is a french landmark and symbol of the french revolution overthrowing the king and starting the republic
Borsalino vs. Hakuba would be like: everything is frozen in time, they have the most intense fight ever and both are standing there all bloody. Then time starts moving again and all the energy they used to fight blows everything away, and all are like wtf just happened. While one strong pirate watched every move and thinks to himself: " this cavendish, does he even has a limit?"
Bourgeois does comme from the world bourgeoisie, but it référence people with a large ammount of money and who weren’t nobles. The nobles in the dark ages used it as a stigma to draw a line between rich people of common birth and does of nobility.
As a french guy I didn't realise how my language was seen haha !! (sorry for my english) Bourgeois is the cast of people just under the nobility Durandal is the name of a legendary sword you can see in Rocamadour a greet village ! The legend says that one day inverders try to come and a knight try to fight them by himsellf but he was surended so he launched his sword (Durendal) to warned the king and the sword made 200km in the air and go ecalibur in a wall of the city

@teslagod2003 If he can create that many mixtures at once do you think that they will find a way to enter reality to face him? If so then I hope that they leave the door open. I would like to enter imagination physically and this seems like a good opportunity for me to do so. I have friends in imagination and if this alliance cannot face him then I suppose once I get there, me and my friends can sit back and figure out what to do.
@teslagod2003 I know of Chuck Norris, but which Shaggy are you referring to? Oh well, as long as the alliance leaves me a way to enter imagination I suppose it doesn't matter which individuals they recruit. At any rate this showdown would make an interesting scene to watch.
@teslagod2003 I have heard of the term "memes" as you so call them, but I am not sure what they are and so I do not pay much attention to them. I am familiar with Shaggy, Scooby, Fred Daphne, and Velma as well as other characters in their franchise. As for Shaggy being the new Chuck Norris, that is one I haven't heard yet. I have been keeping up with most of their cartoons, but the last ones I watched were part of mystery incorporated. A nice show even if they did take a few elements too far, It was nice to see everything build up to a climatic finale. I have also seen some movies such as legend of the Phantosaur which seems to be the only movie in which Shaggy exhibits any traits that seem to fit this idea or meme as you call it. I know that the network is working on Scooby-Doo and Guess who which seems to be similar to the new Scooby doo movies which are also classics. I also know that the latest movie is Scooby Doo Curse of the 13th ghost which is a conclusion to 13 ghosts of Scooby Doo. On a side note, I knew that they must have been short a ghost, they needed to catch 13 and they only caught 12 in that show. At any rate, I am getting sidetracked. I have not heard of this until you mentioned it to me.
@teslagod2003 Like i said, i know about Chuck Norris but Shaggy being included in this is a new one. Honestly I had to look up who Chuck Norris was when I first heard of him. Based on what I can see, these things tend to be taken to the length of exaggeration sometimes. I wonder what led to Shaggy being chosen.
Durandal, the 'Peerless Blade'. The tale is that Roland fought off over 1000 arabic soldiers with just that sword, by himself, to stop them from invading... he then hid the sword as he died, under his own corpse... if I remember correctly. I may not be completely factually correct.. but it's something like that.

Like Jack for example, powerful he might be, but he got cut up by Ashura Douji so I think someone as fast as Hakuba would cut him to shreds. If you don't have advanced oberservation haki or a devil fruit power like Robin, that allows you to disable him while you see him coming, he's gonna get ya.
What if Cavendish planned to give the Mera Mera no Mi to the horse? He'd have a Rapidash (sans a horn)
I wanted to point it out last time you mentioned Suleiman, (not Sureiman like you said it) but he is most likely turkish since his name is based on one of the most well known turkish Sultans with the same name.
I believe in Japanese all L's are pronounced as R's
The sheath/scabbard of his sword is awesome its my favorite out of all swords...
And my favorite sword is "shusui"
Cavendish is easily in my top 10 favorite character list☺
Iunno, Cavendish looks like one of them Montreal Canadian folks.
@@maxspecs As someone born in Quebec (Canada) and having visited Montreal more than once, your comment made me laugh so hard that I was wheezing after!
I kind of want to see the grand fleet expand. With a Mink division and a Samurai division. I think Carrot would be a good head for the Mink division or if she joins the Strawhats Wanda could do it.
I actually enjoy this type of character and Hakuba just makes him cooler. Great video tekking.
I literally had a advert showing the trailer for a movie called “Mary: Queen Of Scots” ... very much a Cavendish recommendation I’m sure.
*Cavendish sees Hakuba*
Cavendish: "The troubles of being beautiful. Such a tragic story" *tears*
Everyone: ok.
He's my favorite of the grand fleet and I ship him with robin because I like their moments in dressrosa.
I don't know why, but I could see a Cavendish personality trait in Tekking lol
Why do i see you everywhere?!
Tekking that intro was the absolute most amazing intro I have every seen out of all your videos I think.
"My next video it's gonna be cavandesh posters and candet photographs" "I need to redo my ceiling iwith nothing but scavendish"
NOW, we expect this to happen in the next video, or atleast the cavendish posters and the photographs.
(sorry for my bad english, it's my second language)
The old witch part is so damn poetic. Nice tekking!
Not to mention cavendish has two female pirate crews following him so hey more power to him
Cavendish is also a form of tobacco, typically used for aromatic blends.
durandal came from a poem the medieval poem of the " tale of sir roland" and was his sword a "legendary sword given by an angel" in very short and it was said that "charlemagne" used durandal too!
Does the grand fleet have there own Jolly Roger, it would be sick if all there ships has the same Jolly Roger, imagine there entrance with that.
Hakuba reminds me SO much of Speed-o-Sound Sonic from one punch man like the eyes and mouth look the same when Sonic goes crazy and obviously - the speed. Who agrees?
Cavandish vs Bartolomeo is basically the sword vs the shield
Imagine if Cavendish and Hancock had a child. The shining brilliance of its beauty would incinerate the world.
That's not gonna happen cuz Hancock is in love with Luffy.
16:00
I actually think he was thrown out because of the killings of Hakuba. However Cavendish didn't know so he made up a reason for himself.
To add - People weren't fauning over him, they were afraid of him his entire life. And as Tekking mentions with fairy tale aspects - the women wanted to marry him because 'loves true kiss' could set him free and they are basically trying to do a duty to their village
@@invaderal420 It also never really played up that ladies fawn over him. He is acknoledged to be good looking but there are never any ladies chasing him or something like that. I think the whole idea of him being far too popular with the ladies is something he made up himself.
Hi Trekking, I am FRENCH and always watching your OP videos. Thanks a lot for your work and your energy. I loved what yous said about french people... I'll say we sound a little bit "Shit don't stink" but the word "eloquent" would also do the job !!! (La chanson de Roland, is from the 11th century, and is about Roland, Charlemagne's nephew) Merci Infiniment.
What happened to your daily Nami appreciation session?
Zemythian he does that in private
I thought it was Robin?
I think Cavendish and Sanji might get along since they're both french-related :)
Thanks! For granting my request! Tekking! ^^
i wish it was split in to cavendish and hakuba vids.
Tekking, please. Durandal
DUR-RAN-DAHL, you were killing me this whole episode with dur-ron-dle
Also Durandal is a sword and a part of Roland's myth but it has Italian/Roman origin being possessed by the Italian figure Mandricardo before Roland and Hector of Troy before Mandricardo
Cavendish has the same voice actor as katsura from gintama
Bastille was a fortress/Prison. The most famous prisoner was the man with the iron mask. This is the origin of Bastille Vice Admiral
...that of duval plus alot others
Bastille is a castle in Paris, that was used by the nobility (Burgeoisie)as a state prison. It was later stormed and taken during the French Revolution and has since been a symbol of Republicans (as in actual Republicans, not the american version) and early democracy, as well as the fight against Burgeoisie oppression. So yeah, there's a good chance Vice-Admiral Bastille, Cavendish and the Burgeoise Kingdom are somehow connected.
It was Michelangelo who painted the ceiling of te Sixteenth Chapel
The Bastille was a big fortified prison with intelectuals, political enemies and high class members who had angered or opposed the king, Louis XIV, among other prisoners. The storm of The Bastille meant the beginning of the French Revolution.
For Bourgeois. You have it right the only thing I could see to help you on this word would be to put the bit more emphasis on the r
He could have given the Fruit to his horse. Hakuba riding a burning horse would be even more terrifying and it would give the horse a similar split between noble steed and horse of the apocalypse.
That intro actually broke me on a number of occasions, take a bow tekking ......once again....take a bow ....
One day, I'll be first.
One day.
CeriseNotPurple that’s not what your girlfriend wants tho 😂😂😂
@@zachstokes9664 well that's a big compliment
One day, I'll know what Tekking is talking about!
Durendal is indeed the sword of Roland. It was also rumored to have been owned by Charlemagne.
@3:10 "look at my horse. My horse is amazing"
But how did Hakuba saw Robin?

Belgian Fan of yours here, really love what you do ! I just get irritated when people say "omelette du fromage" beacause it's just wrong lol. Should be "omelette au fromage" if you wondered...
Just want to say congrats tekking on shooting up 200k subs since i joined the squad. Which was actually not long ago
28:26 That's some great Hakuba speed there Tekking.
Telling coming in with the Dexter's lab ref very nice
Seeing your intros for your videos r always fucking funny to me,, 👌🏻👌🏻
also how come you don’t have a million subscribers yet??? Your fucking awesome 😎👍🏻
I saw that intro coming a mile away lol. Keep the flare Tekking!
I feel like eventually ,Luffy could have a following like white beard. An entire army at his disposal and all he wants is for everyone to follow there dreams and be true to themselves. Pop would be proud don't you think ? The true king of the pirates.
Prob my favorite member of the straw hat grandfleet I was waiting for this vid for awhile
Beautiful Tekking vs Hakuba Tekking! 😂😂😂 omelette du framage is from dexters lab! 🤣 I remember when I was in 6th grade i told my friend I know that French word cuz the lesson was about French stuff & the teacher got mad @ me for talking when she was & asked what i was talking about so I told her & she didn’t believe me until I said “omelette du framage” lmao owned! 😜
21:12
You have been warned
Damn
wow.... i wasn't ready...
You say that like it's a bad thing you timestamped Tekkings mating call for the world to see.
Welp, F
ouch
The Sistine chapel was painted by Michalangelo
Demonetized already? Dang that's tuff. What did you say Matt?
For real. That's crazy.
There is an ad in the end
I got four ads on the video
Yeah a tekking video to end my work day. Just what I needed 😎👍
there's obsession, then there's tekking
21:12 Holy crud! I was NOT expecting that noise! That actually hurt my ears.
As one of the only french man that probably watches Tekking i will commence :
1- Honestly french sounds fancy just because french people market themselves as elegant to the outside world, you associate the language with the image of the people.
Durandal is the name of Roland sword that can’t be broken by anything and has the ability to grant three miracle for it user.
(sorry for my english)
Bourgeois is the cast of people just under the nobility
Durandal is the name of a legendary sword you can see in Rocamadour a greet village ! The legend says that one day inverders try to come and a knight try to fight them by himsellf but he was surended so he launched his sword (Durendal) to warned the king and the sword made 200km in the air and go ecalibur in a wall of the city
General Blue in Dragonball.
I am just waiting for the day I watch the news to see tekking being recruited in the avengers to use his cringe to beat Thanos
Is cringe really that powerful? It seems to me that what people call cringe is part of what I find most unique about his videos. His method of doing things really is quite unique and part of the reason he is one of my favorite TH-camrs to watch. I really wish I had found his channel earlier, but then I could have also figured out how to comment and watch live reactions sooner too.
Big love from Scotland! If you ever make the trip you have a friend over here!
Cavendish is one of my favorites because, man Hakuba is a diferent level of things man
11:21 well as a French person, im flattered U////U
I always thought that the name of the kingdom come from the name Burgundy that is a historical land in France.
PS Durendal is the holy sword given to Roland by his uncle The Holy Roman Emperor.
