If I remember it correctly the king of the West Franks, Charles the Simple, agreed to grant Rollo lands provided Rollo convert to Christianity and pay homage to him, which required Rollo to kiss Charles' feet. Rollo did kiss Charles' feet, only, instead of going down to kiss them, Rollo grabbed Charles' ankles and dangled the king _upside-down_ in order to kiss them.
Rollo was not from Norway, but Denmark. This has been settled both by contemporary sources as well as DNA-tests of his early descendants. The Icelandic sagas were written centuries after Rollo's time, and from a Norway-favourable angle.
They would have made horses carry him. No one cared about animal welfare then. They would have just beaten various mounts into submission until they broke down and had to be destroyed.
Yes, the Show absolutely incorporates many Historical truths and peoples but with many liberties taken. So it is a good mesh of Fact and fiction all rolled up to make an awesome show.
My mother told me Someday I would buy Galley with good oars Sail to distant shores Stand up on the prow Noble barque I steer steady course to the havenHew many foe-menHew many foe-men... I am just now after all this time finally finishing the Show The Vikings. I'm on the end of season 5
William the Conqueror was the great grandson of Rollo, after 1066, the English monarchy was never English again. The Plantagenet dynasty.
Beautifully done.
Some king back in the day: "When you write down this story, throw in a miracle of two. I want the next guy to think I'm protected by some god."
excellent documetary.
🙏 thanks for uploading

The version I heard was Rollo said no to the foot kissing and said one of his men would do it and that guy upended the King.
@michaeldent1145 ,
Your version sounds more like it.
I am actually a Viking too!
Viking is a verb not a noun. You been raiding recently?

I like my Rollo history slightly more than my love for Rolo candy. To bad i don't have a roll to munch on while watching this
Was this produced by film students?
It sounds like the English voice dubbing of Rollo and others were done by a high school drama class.
Boom!!
They would have made horses carry him. No one cared about animal welfare then. They would have just beaten various mounts into submission until they broke down and had to be destroyed.
So King Rollo was more than a kids TV show...?
it's my last name 😬
Hello American person , welcome to education history . Rolos descendants later became the kings of England it's all quite interesting.
Don't think they are American as King Rollo is a British tv show character and not shown in the USA.
Is the vikings show somewhat true then? Only on season 4 but Rollo has just become married to the princess of paris

The show is a mash of different historical and lore figures for the sake of entertainment.

Short summary; France surrendered part of France. Why? Because obviously, they’re French.
