JJ is on point. Love how she called out the parents for putting 10yr olds in position to get concussions. @Joe Baeza - what is wrong with these parents? Maybe they need head scans themselves. Head injuries are nothing to brag about. As avid football fans, have they not seen how many professional football players end up with physical limitations because of head injuries sustained during their careers? Maybe if I had kids I would feel differently, I would like to think not, though. My mother was not like most parents. She didn’t try to relive her childhood through us. She wanted us to relive her childhood! She was dirt poor, grew up literally in a shack with no running water, no electricity, a well pump in the kitchen, and an outhouse in the backyard. My father pulled her out of that and brought her north to NY. Although she was now living in style, she was going to make sure we had shitty lives growing up - her motto - if it was good enough for me, it’s good enough for you.
No! Judge Judy is a socialist, she is not an American. its a crime that the COACHes allow helmet contact, if a child hits another in the head or uses their helmet as a Ram, then arrest the coach on the spot during the game. If we had that law, full contact by Ramming would decrease. I played football since I could run, we were kind of poor, it was flag because all the kids were different size, tackle isnt fair unless all are the same size. We did tackle in my schools PE and no pads or anything. The coach was a black belt in Karate and military, he was a tough SOB and didnt want the boys to be sissies, so he pushed it and would knock them down and play hard. The kind of MAN not allowed today the schools made up of commies and liberals would have fired him. But never, ever would ramming be tolerated because its wrong and puts the children in harms way . That guy was rough but went by the rules and wanted safety first. We were lucky to have such a MAN as a role model, makes it so clear what failures we have when women and liberal males run things.
If the guy came with proof of the concussion and proof of how long the other teams had been together and proof that the tournament organizer promised to only put him with other teams with less than a year experience, it would’ve been a very different case. But he had nothing.
When I saw JJs opening gambit of removing the two children from the court room I thought to myself "Uh oh....some alpha males gonna getting a few home truths but JJ aint gonna humiliate them in front of their kids"

I don’t have kids so I have no idea what’s ok and what isn’t, but the plaintiff brought no proof about anything. If those kids were injured, the first thing he should have done was get medical records. Second, he didn’t bring any proof of how long the other teams were together. I’m sure he’s telling the truth, but courts need proof.
It's difficult to get medical records for a child that isn't yours and it in this case he need to proof the difference in experience from the teams. A concussion doesn't have anything to do with that. I would have never thought to bring medical records unless part of the suit included for medical expenses or anything medical related
@@rosabazan6600the father of the kid with the concussion was there with the plaintiff. Not difficult for him to get records. I thought the other little boy was the plaintiff’s son… If you’re trying to prove the other team was more experienced, them bringing proof of injuries would support that. A concussion caused by a member of the opposing team could absolutely support what the plaintiff is alleging, but there’s no medical report from any doctor substantiating that. I worked in health care for over 50 years, so getting records to support your claims is at the top of my list without even thinking about it. Any time you need to support a medical issue whether you’re suing for medical or not, you always need medical reports to back up what you’re saying.

JJ was spot on with this case. The plantiff made himself look stupid for allowing his kids to even play and subsequently get hurt after he knew the opposing team was more experienced.

No idea how this ever became a lawsuit. It's almost impossible to prove one athlete is of a different skill level to another...but it is especially harder to prove in an amateur kids game like this!!
I totally agree having a little kids play football is irresponsible and reckless. Subjecting kids to concussions and long term brain damage. Just so their parents can live through them or re-live their glory days.
Please, give me the statistics on how many kids have had long term brain damage from playing football at this age? To make a comment like that you have to have some proof to back it up with. Let me give you that number. Out of the millions of kids that play 12 and under youth football, the past 20 years you can count in one hand. And there weren't because of the contact made with other players. It was because of their contact with the ground. You would have a better chance of you 12 year old getting hit by a car while walking down the sidewalk. So, are you saying that parents shouldn't allow their kids to walk down a sidewalk now? Kids play sports because they want to. Not because parents force their kids to relive their glory days. Where in the hell did that statement come from. It's one thing to have an opinion. However, it's another to state an opinion based on zero factual data. Absolutely not... Are you crazy? Who the hell let their kids start football that late in life. If they have any natural talent for it, it's already wasted.
Usually that's when kids stop playing, middle school or after. Also it does seem a little dangerous starting in high school for the first time when everyone else has been playing for 5 years. You could get hurt worse that way.
Yeah, sure but in football, players are supposed to tackle and smash into other players, whereas most other games, players would be penalized for doing so to discourage the contact. I think that's where the difference is. But certainly, no sport is 100% safe. Soccer has slide tackles, hockey...sliding on ice, basketball tends to have players run into each other and so forth
Sports are okay. They can teach discipline, confidence, and self-improvement. But full-contact sports like football, soccer, lacrosse, where heads collide is just bad. I grew up playing tennis and baseball. Worst injury I got was a twisted knee on some clay courts cause I tended to slide on those courts for my game switch-up. On other courts, I tended to jump into the ball for extra "oomph" as I hit it. God, I miss tennis. 🎾 All you needed was a racquet, a ball, and a wall to play.
Sports are great but not for everyone! I have 3 kids played football since they were little until high school, including lacrosse, wrestling, field hockey, soccer. Team match ups were not always fair, and when signing up there has to be a reasonable expectation that they may get hurt.
Coach knew his kids were going to get smeared too; three weeks together and he thinks they're good enough for tournaments? Even against other recreational kids, they barely know each other from a few after school scrimmages and pick up games
He should not have done a tournament until the kids had at least played a season of the sport so they understand the game. Three games in a weekend can be a lot in a non contact sport, let alone tackle football. That was not smart on the plaintiff’s part.
My husband is a football coach and is very passionate about it, but he has always voiced that our son won’t be playing football. I felt an abundance of relief when he said that lol.
ive been a professional player since my 6 years old. There are divisions where teams play against each other. Each division is individual. For example team from division A cant be playing against division C.
I believe the tournament organizer just wanted to fill all the spots and collect those big entry fees. The other man enrolled his team in what supposed to be a rec division, but the organizer didn't have enough rec division teams to form a bracket, so he let a higher-division team fill in the spot. If you follow that idea, it paid off, because even when faced with litigation, the court dismissed the case and he got to keep the entry fees from both teams (the rec team and the higher-division team) who otherwise would have been turned down due to lacking enough teams enrolled in their corresponding division. I think they guy had a valid claim but he didn't bring sufficient proof beyond a reasonable doubt that the other teams were indeed from a higher division.
I think you nailed it but I would say that the plaintiff did bring in proof that one of the teams played 8 games the prior year, making them not new to the game.
She's right. They should just play a touch game in the park and skip being in any kind of a league. It sounds like the Plaintiff wants them to take turns scoring so the kids can get experience.
If they were only together for such a short period of Time. Maybe you should just practice with the boy for several months or even a year before you even put them in a tournament so they can get use to the sport.
The plaintiff is basically teaching his kids to be sore losers smh. And he’s the type of angry parent that starts fights with other parents in the stands. Some people just shouldn’t have children 🙄🤦🏽♂️
It's obvious you don't have a clue about tournament play. There are divisions. And they have those divisions for a reason. To keep seasoned teams with like teams and vice versus. It's obvious JJ and yourself are not aware of how they work. That's how tournaments are down. It has nothing to do with being sore losers...you want teams to get something out of it. If teams are so over powering to another neither team gets anything out of it.
I agree with JJ that letting children of this young age play football is extremely irresponsible parenting. It's too dangerous and their bodies can be injured for life!
He sued someone over a stupid game? Because his children played on a team that were beginners and they played against a more experienced (possibly a little older) team?! And they got roughed up a little?! Am I understanding this correctly ??? Great lessons to teach your kids.
i mean if he’s telling the truth and a kid actually got a concussion i think him suing is valid bc otherwise it probably wouldn’t have happened if they were also playing w beginners
No he sued because teams playing down in the league when they should have been playing up. You call it a great lesson??? lololol There are divisions in tournament sports. And there is a reason why they have those divisions. Such an idiot comment from someone who doesn't have a clue.
Never seen such utter shite in my life, I’m a qualified coach and referee in the uk and all I can say is it was the parents that were ALWAYS a problem.
Simple, don't play in his tournament again.. And like JJ said, if you really like the game so much.. Go play it yourself and stop using your children to accomplish what you couldn't do at that age.
Father complained because his kid's team lost. But if the case was that his kids won, even competing with a different division he will just shut up. The bottom line is, Father is complaining because his kids lost the game. Teach the kids SPORTSMANSHIP. You DON'T have to win every game. "The father here is such a BABY." He just broadcasted his "snowflake" behaiviour on TV. 😅😅
I once considered this for my future sons. Now because of JJ I think I'll keep them out. AND it's true story of my father (may he RIP), he found something wrong with my Cub Scout Pack; I never found out to this day what it was and he yanked me right out of it.
This is a rare one that Judge Judy got wrong in my view. Clearly, the plaintiff is telling the truth and it was improper and dangerous for the defendant to do what he did and pair vastly uneven teams against each other unexpectedly and against the contract made.
I disagree. While I believe him he has to have some evidence to prove negligence. He should have brought other witnesses, other coaches who could show that teams were but in the wrong division. However, in either case this judge may have went against him anyway. She had her own disdain for kids playing football at that age, which has nothin to do with the case and is strictly her opinion. You also didn't have a clue about different divisions and why there are different. When she stated that all of the kids are the same age as though there is no difference showed her ignorance to even try to find out why there are divisions. While I believe on what the plaintiff is saying, I can't go on that alone. He should have brought affidavits or witnesses from other coaches who can affirm that there were teams playing in the wrong divisions. She thinks it would be so easy to drop them out of the tournament when she is so off base. These coaches are volunteers and get money from the parents in order to play in tournaments. Most parents don't eve go to the games, therefore the care is on the coaches. But, that money is none refundable as well which leads him two choices. Don't play and piss off a bunch of parents or play the game in which he did and be overly matched because the director put the wrong teams in the wrong division.
Clearly? I know jack all about football and I can assure you that it was about as clear as mud to me. All the idiot had to do was quit being a man baby, get on his computer, and email the coaches of the other teams and ask about what division they are in! But he's not going to do that because he actually didn't care about the kids. He's more upset he lost. If he cared about the kids and actually believed they were in danger, he would have been a man and pulled them out. I get that's a terribly difficult decision and that there will be parental fallout and he could lose his job as a coach. I get it. But there's such a coaching shortage, that he could easily find another job because it would be impossible to argue with a man who pulled kids for their safety. Not in the long run.
JJ says she doesn't believe the defendant, and I agree. It appears they did mix the teams differently than they expressed would be done in their literature. At the very least, the defendant seems or claims to be unsure about the specifics and doesn't offer any proof himself to show otherwise, which doesn't reflect well on him. Unfortunately the plaintiff didn't prepare well enough the fulfill the burden of proof as was his responsibility. Frankly I think any team in that age bracket that has only been together approximately a month shouldn't be entering into some sort of paid tournament venue to begin with, even with other teams at that same caliber of experience. That's getting too serious too fast, especially when it ends up in a court case.
The argument from his advocates in the comments box say he showed a paper that shows a win-loss ratio. Teams that are in the plantive league would only play three games. But ones in the higher level play 8. And that paper has 8 games. The problem is that is as you said. He doesn't know what's going on. In the village I grew up in, there were three teams that all had the same name and were all different levels of play. Just because you played a game against a team with my village's name on it, didn't mean you played the elite team. What he needed to show was an actual roster or something. Not just some random paper. Especially if that random paper is from a previous year! Things change. Sometimes the rosters get gutted because of life events. Maybe a lot of players moved away. Maybe they chose a different league that year. So, they change from a higher level team to a lower one.
My daughter plays soccer on a beginners team and they play other kids who are on the beginners team. It’s determined by how long they have been in the league so a beginner team isn’t going to play a team that been playing for 3 years. The beginners team doesn’t even have the dexterity to keep up. BUT sometimes- they get a beginners team with kids that have grown up kicking around a soccer ball since they could walk and they lose. I’m not going to sue no matter what- because what does that teach my daughter. Sometimes you lose games in life- sometimes the odds are not in your favor. That is not against the law. It might suck, you might voice your concerns to the right people interdepartmentally- but sue? Absolutely not.
While it may not be against the law it is highly unethical and could get kids hurt. There are division in all sports in tournament play and there is a reason why it's like that way.
My mom wouldn't let me play Soccer until I was 14 and finish growing and I STILL got a concussion when I was 17 playing soccer. No small kid should play football
Oddly enough, my father and mother both discouraged me from playing football. They wanted me to do track, basketball or something with minimal "contact". I ended up trying Wresting, Basketball, Soccer and lacrosse. Hated all of them. Football was the only sport I ever truly enjoyed. Granted, I was pretty terrible at the rest. Maybe that had something to do with it 😂
If he realized these kids were that experienced....he shouldve pulled out his team and cancelled to protect potential injuries for the safety of the kids...
There's actually a really good documentary on Netflix that discusses the long-term damage of football. Your skull is getting hit again and again. They interviewed different people on different levels. Some were retired pros, some were current players, and one was a guy who was a defensive lineman back in high school. The amount of hits your head can take, protected or not, can have cognitive consequences or mental health problems. I think that's why Judge Judy is particularly annoyed and dismissive.
I feel for the Plaintiff. He did what he thought was due diligence and the defendant screwed him over. Unfortunately, proof is hard to come by sometimes.
I really don't understand people who come on this show and bring nothing to back up their claims. Like have you never watched the show before?! Division info is easily attainable and so is medical papers. No judge will believe empty words.
Part of the problem here is that some organizations that enter into these tournaments have a bunch of different squads. If I see a squad from "Springfield", that doesn't necessarily tell me how good they are going to be. "Springfield A" could be semi-pro, but "Springfield B" could be really bad. You can also have a case where there are a number of guest players, or you have a team of players who are individually skilled, but haven't played together before. Finally, there is an element of risk in playing any contact sport, especially football, and I'm sure each team is signing waivers out the wazoo before entering.
My niece's and nephews love JJ, they always ask me "can we watch the mean old lady"? 😂 They love letting me know when "WE'RE DONE"! 😂😂 These dang kids now an days smh.
I sort of agree with the plaintiff. If your kids want to be involved in sports, and be any good at it in junior high or high school, you have to start them early when they are this age. My son and three friends, at age 12, were in a 3 on 3 basketball street tournament and played against experienced players totally out of their league. In fact one of those players from the other team went on to play professional basketball. (Mike Miller former Miami Heat player) In my sons example, they were only grouped by age and not ability. They got eliminated quickly, but they got the experience.

JJ is on point. Love how she called out the parents for putting 10yr olds in position to get concussions.
I have so many friends and co workers that brag about how their kids had to get head scans and surgeries. 10 to 13 year olds getting verbally abused by overweight coaches and crazy parents dragging their kids out to get within an inch of heat stroke. I am not anti sports I just don't understand why parents try to live through their kids that way.
I have taught martial arts and I have NEVER had to yell at a child to get them to perform well. Never. I don't understand it. People think I have a magic touch with kids because they listen to me, even though I don't have my own kids. I don't. If I have to correct something, I get down on their level and talk to them like a human being.
I don't know if that works for parents. I understand it's a different dynamic for parents. But it works for me.

Second, he didn’t bring any proof of how long the other teams were together. I’m sure he’s telling the truth, but courts need proof.
Hello Deborah....How are you doing over there today?
Right the plantiff may be in the right here but he doesn't have a case
It's difficult to get medical records for a child that isn't yours and it in this case he need to proof the difference in experience from the teams. A concussion doesn't have anything to do with that. I would have never thought to bring medical records unless part of the suit included for medical expenses or anything medical related
@@rosabazan6600the father of the kid with the concussion was there with the plaintiff. Not difficult for him to get records. I thought the other little boy was the plaintiff’s son…
If you’re trying to prove the other team was more experienced, them bringing proof of injuries would support that.

She was spot on with the law but ignorant to tournament sports. It has nothing to do with age and about experience. If you put these more experience teams against lower teams the lower teams can and will get murdered. That's why they have divisions and the person running the tournament should know better.
@@car_car32 Hard to not do that when the money is already paid and likely paid by the parents. These tournament don't give refunds and you don't get to see the bracket until game day. So, it's either play or have a bunch of mad parents. It's a no win situation for the coaches. However, the tournament director knew what he was doing. I have seen this a few times before. Some teams just want an easy trophy but in turn you get less mature players hurt.

Football is no more dangerous than other sports like soccer and cheerleading.
She’s got a good point about little kids playing football. They’re too young to be doing stuff like that, it’s better to wait till the end of middle school and the start of highschool to get them into that stuff.
Absolutely not... Are you crazy? Who the hell let their kids start football that late in life. If they have any natural talent for it, it's already wasted.
Like she said they're all a bunch of fools. 😆
Usually that's when kids stop playing, middle school or after.
Also it does seem a little dangerous starting in high school for the first time when everyone else has been playing for 5 years. You could get hurt worse that way.
Yeah because they can easily get hurt
It's just one of those sports that's going to be risky at any age. Not a fan of football though I understand the appeal, especially for the coaches. 😏

If you don't want them to get hurt, keep them out of sports. Contact sports you will get hurt.
Kids that age, that new, should play "Flag Football", to LEARN... then they can consider whether tackle football is a good fit for them or not.

The plaintiff just didn’t prove his case. I agree with his stance but no proof is no proof.
PERFECT example of parents that should not sign up their kids for sports, especially football!!
Hahaha
Sports are okay. They can teach discipline, confidence, and self-improvement. But full-contact sports like football, soccer, lacrosse, where heads collide is just bad. I grew up playing tennis and baseball.
Worst injury I got was a twisted knee on some clay courts cause I tended to slide on those courts for my game switch-up. On other courts, I tended to jump into the ball for extra "oomph" as I hit it. God, I miss tennis. 🎾 All you needed was a racquet, a ball, and a wall to play.
Just dumb. That's your opinion. This is not the norm. Tournament directors usually get the right teams in the in the right division.
Sports are great but not for everyone! I have 3 kids played football since they were little until high school, including lacrosse, wrestling, field hockey, soccer. Team match ups were not always fair, and when signing up there has to be a reasonable expectation that they may get hurt.
@@tawtam1 usually yes, but not very often. With any sport there’s usually an expectation that your child may get hurt or injured.
The tournament sponsor knows what he did. Happens all the time. He let a slouch team in to give the other teams a tuneup.

3:31 He looks braindead. He's one of the fathers that would rather his kid be out on the field and kill himself than be SAFE.
ive been a professional player since my 6 years old.
Amen! No business for small kids to be playing contact sports.
If they were only together for such a short period of Time. Maybe you should just practice with the boy for several months or even a year before you even put them in a tournament so they can get use to the sport.
I'd be on the plaintiff's side if he pulled the kids out and then sued, not allowed them to get beat up first.
Exactly
He thought his kids were the "Miracle on Ice."

He just broadcasted his "snowflake" behaiviour on TV. 😅😅
If the kids are out of your league, then why play? The coach should not allow his rec team to play against a much more seasoned team.

This is a rare one that Judge Judy got wrong in my view. Clearly, the plaintiff is telling the truth and it was improper and dangerous for the defendant to do what he did and pair vastly uneven teams against each other unexpectedly and against the contract made.
I agree ...it's hard to prove the age differences too the defendant was unfair
U get this a lot in basketball all the time
Yeah but he had no proof
I didn’t know that the set of Judge Judy was on location in LA
Plaintiff had a strong case. If only he had enough evidence.
The guy came to court unprepared with his red shirt and white tie half way up his shirt
Love how JJ sent the kids out cause she knows shit was gonna get real lol
Imagine having such a fragile ego that you go to judge Judy because the team you coached lost. These parents are nuts
You don't know how tournaments run
@@TheRisky9 great info! Thanks for your insight on that!

I think that's why Judge Judy is particularly annoyed and dismissive.
him arguing that they only played 2 out of 3 games sir you lost both matches that’s how a tournament works
yassss JJ!!!! CHEFS KISS TO THE JUDGE

Tackle football at that age is way too young. We don't know how concussions impact a developing mind.
I will tell you this they’re all on their way to having CTE before turning 18.
