Thanks Neil, I've not seen anyone do this before, appreciate not everyone has an SDS drill but you can pick corded ones up for £60 now and they are incredibly useful!
I had some shipping crates to break down (with a LOT of nails). I did the first one with a hammer, used this method for the other two. It worked brilliantly - about three times faster and a lot less effort. Fantastic tip!
Great Idea, I have been using the wreaking bar for some years now and I even bought a punch that fits over the nail and the center punch knows the nail out. Unfortunately the nail sometimes get between the punch and the sleeve but your idea is much better and I already own the drill.
Another benefit to this is when de-nailing timber unsupported between two saw horses. You loose a lot of force (and accuracy) when the timber bounces around in the middle. I like it mate! Good use of a tool already on hand. I will try it out with a longer bit so it's easier to seen the driver tip and nail.
I have Arthritis in my hands and using a hammer is difficult, the drill idea gives me something large enough to hold in place without thehammer impact screwing my hands up even more cheers m8 and thanks
What a brilliant idea , could grind a point on a bit and could also do nails that are flush cut off, I’m recycle pallets to line out my loft as Keith Brown did so I’m going to use your method… Thanks for the tip.
Hi well I've purchased airlocker ap700 from Amazon it only works for me on the larger nails most other it gets jammed nearly every time and have to do a full strip down 😡 at least 50,60 times and now I've lost a part so I am doomed ,just watched you're vid tried it out on all pallets thick ;thin awesome well done cheers for sharing lindsay
The impact of an impact driver is in the turning motion, like putting a wrench on a bolt, and hammering the other end of the wrench, to break the bolt loose from the nut or other threads, making it ineffective for this purpose. Sam
if by doing this you find it splits the wood out the other side where the nail head comes out , if you use a drill bit just the size of the head and drill the spot where the nail head is the you can make a path for it to be pushed out with less wood damage just a little drill hole the size of the head of the nail. :-) which could be filled possibly with a dowel.
Great tip dude! 0:29 Had to laugh. Why do rolls of gift wrapping paper always end up in the garage where they end up ruined? I keep finding them! My SDS drill weighs a ton but I suppose it will be a good workout.
That's a nifty idea. I use a good set of pincers and pull the nail right through the wood, it stops all the tear out you get with using the hammer and also stops them ending up all over the workshop floor or stuck in the claw of the hammer.
Cheaper idea based on the same concept is to use a palm nailer. They cost about $20. But need a compressor. Sometimes the pointy tip of the nail will stick inside. But you can wiggle and loosen them. Or you can just hit the tip of the nail with a grinder to take off the point. Also you can use a propane torch to heat up the nail and then hit them with a hammer and they come out really quick. Most times you don't have to pull them from the other side. If you do you can just use a pair of pliers. I would make a video about these things but I'm too lazy.
Clever boy! One nasty problem I have is with a large wooden box ( used for deliveries to a local metal-casting business ) About the size of a small car tralier they are useful for garden planters and storage boxes in the garden for stuff you want out of the house and will survive a bit of cold and damp. The bugger of it is that along the bottom ( which is a series of battens,) are two bars for the box to rest on. These bars are wooden blocks, 2 feet long and about 4x4 inches. They make the box hopelessly heavy. The battens of the bottom are fixed by twenty big terrier nails and the heads are driven below the surface of the batten. You cannot grab the nail. Try levering off the block and the battens just break. Is there a way of grinding off the heads. Or maybe the chisel on the SDS would drive them right through? Come across that problem yourself?
You could try a reciprocating saw between batten and block. With a bimetal blade could cut through the nails then punch them out or just grind them flat?
Thanks for taking the time to reply. Nice idea, but I've tried it and it wont work. I am going to try two things: batter the nail with a device like yours and see if it will punch right through or a small diameter hole -saw. I'll post if it works.
Thanks, I wondered what those nail-pullers were called. I guessed they were only available in the USA, but you can get them from Ebay at 30-40 UKP. Not easy to decide if it's a good investment.
Love this : might i add if you use a drill with a drill bit same size as nail head and drill down onto the head to make a hole it could come out threw, when you use your sds it would come out alot cleaner and wouldn't damage the surrounding wood , and would leave a drill hole you could use a plug cutter" to make a plug to fill it . :-) thanks was thinking about buying an air locker and a air compressor but liking this better hopefully can get a Ryobi One Plus version . cheers mate
Easiest way to drive cut nails or cement nails is with good aim a sledge hammer. If attaching wood to cement hammer the nail almost through the wood, hold in desire place, and then smack with 2+ pound hammer. Should slide right in.
Why not just use a slightly larger drill bit and drill through the nail from the top. You have a hole either way and this way there is no need at all for the pulling of nails. ?
Have you used a drill much?? It would be much more work , wear out a bunch of drill bites and would take a lot longer. I like the hammer drill idea but I don't have one so the next best thing would be a palm nailer which I have. I never tgought about using it to remove nails but I will try it the next dime I have a bunch of nails to remove. Thanks for doing the video.
For some reason the wold has no invention for removing nails that are INSTALLED. As in plywood is attached to 2x4's. I want a hole saw to quickly remove the plywood and trash all of the lumber. I don't want to use a manual nail remover crowbar thingy.
They make a drill bit that is about 3/8” (9.5 MM) That looks like a hole saw with teeth on both ends. Chuck it in your drill with a thin piece of plywood with same size hole to use to keep your drill centered over a nail head or screw head drill through and the nail will let go of the plywood. Just saw this on See Jane Drill search “remove damaged headless screws from wood fast” don’t know where to find the bits maybe she leaves a link.
What I meant was, a pity they dont pull the nail out from the other side when punched. I have possed a palm nailer for about 25 years. I new a one handed carpenter who thought they were the best thing since sliced bread!
It's also a lot faster, like the time difference between building something with power tools and building something without power tools. (Hand saw, hammer, and nails or power saw and power nailer) Sam
HOW DO UOU PULL A NAIL WITH NO HEAD FROM AN OAK STRINGER OF A PALLET? PULLING A NAIL FROM A THIN CROSS BOARD IS THE EASY PART. ALSO IF YOU PLACE A PIECE OF WOOD UNDER THE CLAW OF THE HAMMER IT GIVES YOU MORE LEVERAGE. YOUR VIDEO SHOWS YOU YOU REMOVING NAILS (WITH HEADS) THE HARD WAY.
Thanks Phil yes recreated what some say is like a palm nailer, glad you understand the focus of the video being using a tool you already have. Unlike some others..... 👍🏼
dear lord, no way is that method easier or faster than actually learning to use a hammer and its claws. tbh i was expecting a 14 year old kid not a grown ass man.....dude, put some work on that shiney new estwing, its good practice for whatever you do with the pallet wood
Those are all regular nails. All you need is a hammer for those. I need to know how to remove brittle nails, without them breaking. So this was a waste of time.
What a great and simple idea, it always surprises me why something so simple has never come along before. Thanks for sharing. N.
Thanks Neil, I've not seen anyone do this before, appreciate not everyone has an SDS drill but you can pick corded ones up for £60 now and they are incredibly useful!
Glad i saw this before i dropped bones on an air tool. I already have a hammer drill. THANKS MATE

Genius. So simple. So effortless.
What a brilliant idea , could grind a point on a bit and could also do nails that are flush cut off, I’m recycle pallets to line out my loft as Keith Brown did so I’m going to use your method… Thanks for the tip.
No problem you're welcome.
You ought to make your own bit one that fits the nail better and is longer but what you got there looks to work darn good glad I watched the video
Push out smaller nails in 2 or 3 shorter passes. That will avoid the jambs.
GREAT HAMMER!!! My brother in-law works at Estwing in Rockford, Illinois USA
Yes I just bought it. Lovely piece of kit! I hope you get a discount!
You English guys really seem to like those curved claw hammers. Almost all pros in the US use a straight or rip claw hammer. Cool video
Absolutely brilliant idea I’m gonna try this first ,, I pull loads of pallets apart regularly and thanks for sharing
This is the best nail extraction yet.
Thanks SANJAY.
Brilliant tip sir. Will be doing this from now on. Thank you
Thanks Ian glad you found it useful.
Happy Wife Happy Life what is really good is my head exploded with even more info ispired by your tip. are you going to Maker Central May 2018
Glad I could help with some inspiration. I might go to Makers Central; don't know a lot about it really. It's nots far from me though.
Good idea! Shame my sds drill is two handed, would an impact driver do the same? It pushes, not as much as an sds on chisel mode but it might work!
Thanks spence. Not sure an impact driver would work due to the rotation but you could try it!
The impact of an impact driver is in the turning motion, like putting a wrench on a bolt, and hammering the other end of the wrench, to break the bolt loose from the nut or other threads, making it ineffective for this purpose.
Sam
great tip, nice and simple and very cheap. Thanks for sharing
Thanks James you're welcome.
Thats a great idea, would never have thought of it.
Amazing this is the idea I've been looking for as I use free pallets, cheers
Tim from wood 4 nothing
You’re welcome.
Great idea mate. Thanks for sharing it.
Thanks Rob.
Great idea, well done.
Barry (West Kirby, Wirral)
Thanks Barry.
Really cool idea. Thanks for showing
Thanks Sascha.

Thanks, yes my garage is a bit of a dumping ground!
That is AMAZING! totally using that!
Cheers Tim.
That's a nifty idea.
I use a good set of pincers and pull the nail right through the wood, it stops all the tear out you get with using the hammer and also stops them ending up all over the workshop floor or stuck in the claw of the hammer.
Thanks Stig. I have a trick for collecting the nails from the floor; a great big magnet screwed to a stick!
Cheaper idea based on the same concept is to use a palm nailer. They cost about $20. But need a compressor. Sometimes the pointy tip of the nail will stick inside. But you can wiggle and loosen them. This is fantastic, and it works. I've done it myself over the last few days. I found that it's best to only apply light pressure on the drill.
Thats a brilliant idea
Excellent idea - seems to deal with stubborn, rusty and weak nails too.
Thanks.
just bought an ap700 £54. works well. i like this idea cos drill is multi-functional. hmmm. thanks
You’re welcome.
Nice idea! Worth trying!
Thanks it's working pretty well so far.

No problem you could use a punch like attachment in the SDS that would probably push all the way through.
Try a "faithfull nail puller"
It has a head that can be driven below the wood's surface to grab buried nails
Thanks, I wondered what those nail-pullers were called. I guessed they were only available in the USA, but you can get them from Ebay at 30-40 UKP. Not easy to decide if it's a good investment.
Old nut welded to the old SDS-shank makes a good tool.
Top of the CLASS YOUNG MAN.!!!
:-) thanks was thinking about buying an air locker and a air compressor but liking this better hopefully can get a Ryobi One Plus version . cheers mate
Nails come out easier if you lay the board flat and pry facing the long end . Not standing on edge and holding with your hand.
Very good idea...thanks
Thanks Ady.
This idea is awesome
Cheers
Tim from Wood 4 Nothing
Have you tried it with the staple one
What a good idea, Well done! Thank you.
Thanks Glenn.
Pretty smart actually!
Thanks HODYO Design.
I'm impressed
Thanks Eddie.
Brilliant idea mate.
Thanks works well.
Complete genius!!
Thanks Stephen.
Very good idea. Thanks for sharing
Homestay thought that was Paddy McGuinness for a second there 😅
Would a regular hammer drill work? I don't have an SDS drill
No as it has to have a rotary lock function.
Yes, it does work, that is what I use... Give it a try
TheTorkerman-Adam thanks
would an impact drill work just as well?
Unfortunately not as there will be a twist motion.
pretty slick. thanks for sharing
I wish I could find a source of pallets. Either they use Europallets which are returnable, or someone else beats me to it. Nice idea though.
Love this- nice work!
Nice, can you try to drive the biggest nail, a concrete nail maybe? It's very hard to drive concrete nails, especially in tight nails.
Easiest way to drive cut nails or cement nails is with good aim a sledge hammer. If attaching wood to cement hammer the nail almost through the wood, hold in desire place, and then smack with 2+ pound hammer. Should slide right in.
Sense of achievement getting them out with a hammer, there’s a skill to it! Satisfaction
haha sure. just be honest and admit your jealous you didn't think of this.
Unless you have 30 pallets to take apart by yourself and you don't want to take the next month to do it
Air Locker AP 700 is a bit over $50 US on eBay. FREE SHIPPING!
Brilliant!
Awesome idea :)
Innovation at it's best.
Thanks Graham.
Engeneuse idea.
Full marks. Bro ..
Keep the grey cells. Active
a pneumatic palm nailer would probably work equally well.
Tim Swanberg it would but the bit only cost £2 and I already had the drill.
I think it is a great idea😀
Thanks Rodney.
Brilliant and simple. Cheers m8
Brilliant! Thanks
At the 2:23 mark you cut the nail with the drill
What did you use
Positively brilliant!
Thanks
This is great.
Why not just use a slightly larger drill bit and drill through the nail from the top. You have a hole either way and this way there is no need at all for the pulling of nails. ?
A good suggestion but I’m not sure it would work as wold bounce away from nail and dig into wood. Would blunt the bit pretty quick too I’d think.

Gregory V. Ziman Sr you’re welcome.
Les you really should be allowed power tools.......

Yup. Smart. Thanks
Great idea my SDS drill doesn’t have the non rotary function but I guess it would still work, thanks
Nice work son! If only it worked in reverse. New hammer eh?
Yeah reverse would be good! Treated myself to a nice Estwing.
What I meant was, a pity they dont pull the nail out from the other side when punched. I have possed a palm nailer for about 25 years. I new a one handed carpenter who thought they were the best thing since sliced bread!
men youre so lazy like me jajajajja but the drill is not to heavy ?
Laziness inspires innovation!
No it's quite a light drill.
Happy Wife Happy Life verry innovation good the drill is not heavy
It's also a lot faster, like the time difference between building something with power tools and building something without power tools. (Hand saw, hammer, and nails or power saw and power nailer)
Sam
The claw is round for a reason.
A bit like your thick skull......
I like that idea.
Thanks Peter.
COOL STUFF
Thanks so much!
mind. blown.
Good job , greetings from Poland .

Thanks Mike.
Great idea!
Great Idea Gentleman. Thumbs up. Happy to Subscribe. By the by. Happy Wife, Happy Life is very true. very difficult but very true.
Thanks Asoka.
What a idea 👍
slick
Thanks Chris.
amazing
To save money, they actually make nail removal tools for like $50
u r the best
cool
Thanks
I use a tool that is designed to remove nails. Out of hundreds of nails, I've only needed to pull a few.
And what’s this tool called?
Genius
Thanks Dave.
👍👍👍
Show me the thick wood they keep showing the thin wood that's easy
Smart
Great idea, and 'free' :),
That's interesting.
Cleaver, less banging.....cool video
Thanks.
Pat yourself on the back, way too go. thanks.
Thanks. 👍🏼
Nice
Thanks John.
So basically you have created an auto hammer... Recreated i should say.
Nifty use of a tool you already have though and not having to get a new one.
Thanks Phil yes recreated what some say is like a palm nailer, glad you understand the focus of the video being using a tool you already have. Unlike some others..... 👍🏼

I’m still a child at heart Adam.
I've hammered out hundreds of pallets faster than the methods shown in this video. Also, I use a hammer with a sharp claw and flatter hook.
+doesrealityexist medal is in the post. 🙄
Those are all regular nails. All you need is a hammer for those. I need to know how to remove brittle nails, without them breaking. So this was a waste of time.
Maybe you should have watched a video titled “idiots guide to removing brittle nails” then.....
+ Shadow Anime I think his replies are quite funny especially as he seems to upset clowns like you. Don’t fling crap about if you can’t take it.
