Have used airlocker for 3 years. Love it. Turn up your pressure and use over a bucket of water. Higher pressure drives the nails right through and the water stops them. No messing about with a Hammer
Hi, I have had one of these tools for nearly one year now, I use 100% pallet wood and I have been using it all the time. I am very happy with the tool and I suggested it to you. I have not had any problems, nor have I broken any of the working bits. It has saved me many hours of frustration and turned a necessary job into a sinch.
There is a 'world of difference' between nice clean nails recently driven into a piece of two-by and the corroded stuff remaining after prying old 'pallet' boards apart
The air locker will also knock the nails all the way out of the wood. I've been knocking out screw thread nails since I bought the air locker, great tool.
I have the Air Locker version. Looks to be a bit smaller than this one, but same concept. I was using it to remove 4" spikes from old growth 1" oak in my 120+ year old house. No problems. My mother-in-law saw it and took over. Again, no problems. Suggestion on bent nails is to bend them back as close to straight as possible. We suspended the boards over a 5 gallon bucket with crumbled paper in it. Kept ricochets to a minimum. Another use that I just found is as a nail set. I put a bunch of new door trim up before realizing I had the wrong setting on my 16ga air nailer. Heads left up about 1/8". Turn the pressure down to 40psi and it taps the nails to easily caulk over.
I use a half bucket of sand, straighten the nails as best you can, snap off and rusty tails. When you are done chuck a big magnet in shake the sand and it'll pick up the bits
Great review, thanks. I went with the Airlocker, it's much, much smaller and leaves a smaller indentation. Either one you go with, they're so useful and cheap, I feel like I ripped them off...such a time saver.
Wow, this was great. I had some stone delivered on a pallet made of beautiful stout oak and was just beginning to look for a nail remover. Thanks, much!
Recommended operating pressure: 70-120 PSI. The small Porter Cable Air Compressor I have is 150 psi and 6 gals. Should be able to handle this perfectly. This was a great review, many thanks!! I like the full aluminum body on this tool.
I have purchased a cheap one which I have modified to punch nail heads into old jarrah floors in order to sand said floor .it works a treat I just cot the end off the rod so it protrudes about 1/8 of an inch.it works a treat!
Oh, great idea for resetting the lifting nails in my deck, Neville! I almost had enough justification to buy one already and your suggestion's made all the difference: I'm going to buy one this week 🤗
I just use my air hammer with a chisel tip that I have ground to a slight recess and it works perfectly. Cost is very little if you go to HF and get the cheap air hammer.
I have the air locker and the plunger is smaller which leaves a smaller hole. Turn your pressure up and it will drive the nail further out or completely out.
Great video. I bought the Air Locker, but this does the same thing. I plan on using pallet lumber for my projects. I also bought a planer for using pallet lumber.
Have you tried it on pallets that have the spiral nails? Would it be possible to weld a collar extension so that the piston didn't penetrate the wood? Thx for the video.. very professional..
So the nail head will not go through the wood so easily and so you will still need to pry out the nail but now without a head. I could be mistaken but I believe there's a tool that automatically pulls out the nail from the nail head. Could be just my wishful thinking.
Guess I must be the last guy on Earth to hear about this wonderful piece oftechnology, huh? Guess I'll have to buy one for each hand, in order to catch up with everyone else! Seriously though, great review, and lots of good insight in the comments. Liked, subscribed and many thanks.
Have you tried using it to countersink existing nails into a hardwood floor? I’m thinking it’ll punch it in too far, or maybe there’ll be too much resistance going into the hardwood floor joists.
Well done! I think, if you will press the nail gun fairly strong onto the board, the nails will be shot out. In the way you practice it, the nail gun is bouncing back and losing much energy.
Wow I never knew such a tool existed. lol all the hundreds of hours me my wife and kids have invested in pulling twisted and bent nails and ring shank nails from oak pallets. Im almost afraid if I dont buy one of these. And they find out first. Ya it may not be pleasant.
Maybe a mod? Shorten the plunger by 3/16ths or so? Then it would stop flush or just before the end of the tube perhaps preventing that ugly divot... I dunno but I’m ordering one still under $50 that comes with a spare plunger that I may try to modify myself. That’s for the education on this, I’ve been wanting one for a while now and had only heard about it, pretty cool!✌🏼
I thought about that too, but it would prevent you removing those cut-off nails later in the video. A metal plate or removable tube extension like others have suggested would be the answer.
Have the air locker for 5 years an being able to replace plunger is nice have run 1000s of pallet nails oak an pine through it an replaced 1 plunger real work saver
i seen this tool on some diy show today. never knew a air punch was a thing. it kinda blew my mind. am now shoping around for one bc i have no idea what a good brand would be.
Will it remove toe or finger nails buy one for the wife cheaper than a manicure in all seriousness looks pretty good nails put in with airgun can be thin and bend just looking at them and too time consuming those who like the rustic look don't mind the old nail holes and brushing timber by putting nuts and bolts in a bag and belting timber so that when you stain it then it gives that weathered look
A person w/ the tool needs to have a piece of metal that can be slipped around the nail so it can keep it from causing the divit. I love that tool. I do a lot pallets. That would be a life saver.
David Connor I made a metal plate with various holes in and put the nearest hole over the nail before using the gun The plate takes the impact and no damage is done to the wood 🙂👍
Imagine if pallets were made with screws instead of nails = heaven #1 most hated thing I do in all of woodworking is removing nails...especially when some guy with a nail-gun blasted in 6 nails in the same spot when 1 would have been sufficient.
It's not really a "Nail Remover", but rather a "Nail pusher" because it doesn't pull nails - it only pushes them through. If the proper sized nail is used you won't see it on the opposite side, or it won't be sticking out. That doesn't work most of the time if you can't see the nails on the backside or can't get to the backside, so you end up having to chisel around the nail head and pull it out the traditional way. Not sure this helps me much at all. I've rarely ever been able to knock a nail from the pointy end, and when I do it's because I pulled it off whatever it was nailed to and then I can just use a hammer with one tap and then pull it from the other side. This tool would get very little use in my world.
Love that nail remover i just wish i could afford one now that i had to be put on disability for being stupid all of these years in construction over doing it, my lower back is messed up
you might as well save the money, still need a hammer. Make a pallet tool, they have them in youtube video....just a long bar with like a fork at the bottom with 2, it just sits under the pallete board and you pop it right off. goes real fast
This tool requires a air compressor. So good if you already have an air compressor. But if you don't already have an air compressor then this tool is useless.
It's not necessary, but it makes quick work of removing nails. We were using old fence pickets for the bottom of our deck, and using a nail remover, we got 2 dozen pickets nail free in under 2 minutes. That's nine nails per picket.
Seen another person use this as he got blisters using a punch and hammer. In his video he did it the old way and then with the gun. He actually did it quicker with the old punch and hammer! So he spent $50 to stop the blisters when he could of spent $5 on a pair of gloves 👍 every video I watch of this tool I just see a waste of money
If you already have a hammer to pull the nails from the front side, wouldn’t it be just as easy to use the hammer to drive the nails out from the bottom side? No compressor, no hose.....

A great tip. T Y
Hey pal, what kind of air compressor do you need for this tool?
Did you try those spiral or ring shank nail? That's how most pallets are put together with.
Hi, I have had one of these tools for nearly one year now, I use 100% pallet wood and I have been using it all the time. I am very happy with the tool and I suggested it to you. Appreciate that!
Yes i love it it's just i can afford one but i think it's awesome
There is a 'world of difference' between nice clean nails recently driven into a piece of two-by and the corroded stuff remaining after prying old 'pallet' boards apart
100%, plus I'd love to see it in hard wood, not pine
and as per usual with pallets, the nails are a lot tougher than the wood
Makes no difference. The rusty nails will be knocked out easily too.
doesnt help with floorboards.
The air locker will also knock the nails all the way out of the wood. I've been knocking out screw thread nails since I bought the air locker, great tool.
Use a paint stir stick with multiple small holes drilled in it. Slide over the nail before the tool and it won’t leave a mark on the wood.
great idea.
I have the Air Locker version. Looks to be a bit smaller than this one, but same concept. I was using it to remove 4" spikes from old growth 1" oak in my 120+ year old house. No problems. It’s definitely a useful tool!

Great video! You get right to the point and dont waste time. I can tell by your shop you put out some good work. Good job!
Thanks Kevin!
Never knew they made such a tool! Lol. Pretty cool
Great review, thanks. I went with the Airlocker, it's much, much smaller and leaves a smaller indentation. Either one you go with, they're so useful and cheap, I feel like I ripped them off...such a time saver.
Also. I used my Airlocker to drive rusted nails through some corrigated metal in order to remove it. Worked great.
Great job demonstrating.
Wow, this was great. I had some stone delivered on a pallet made of beautiful stout oak and was just beginning to look for a nail remover. Thanks, much!

Excellent, very helpful. Thank you.
Thank you so much! We were given a truckload of reclaimed hardwood and you just made removing the nails from it so much easier.
Your welcome! Great tool for sure!
Great video just what I've been looking for thank you
Just ordered me one, thanks for the video!
Thanks for doing the video. It works better than the air chisel I modified.
Thanks I ordered this tool a couple months ago and hadn’t got to use it yet. Thanks for the info
Hope the video helps!
I have purchased a cheap one which I have modified to punch nail heads into old jarrah floors in order to sand said floor .it works a treat I just cot the end off the rod so it protrudes about 1/8 of an inch.it works a treat!

Also add the HF Palm Nailer works too, just a little slower, but NO DIVET created.
I have the air locker and the plunger is smaller which leaves a smaller hole. Turn your pressure up and it will drive the nail further out or completely out.
Thanks
Great video. I bought the Air Locker, but this does the same thing. I plan on using pallet lumber for my projects. I also bought a planer for using pallet lumber.
Nail Remover, who new! Thanks for the demo and review.
Yes sir!
I didn't know.
Great video, subbed after watching it. How does that tool do when the pallet is put together with those awful ringed nails that so many pallets have?
This definitely would make a good nail punching tool
Have you tried it on pallets that have the spiral nails? Would it be possible to weld a collar extension so that the piston didn't penetrate the wood?
Thx for the video.. very professional..
It’s strong enough for spiral nails! Not sure about the modification!
might be able to get a small metal bushing same size as the end so it wouldnt penetrate, i will more then likely order me one of these
Put a small metal plate with about a 1/4 hole over the nail and against the wood to protect the wood from impact
Thanks for suggestion!
i was going to say a washer or something like that
@@parkinglotstriping9800 I was going to say the same thing. I might try that.
use the equivalent of a dinner fork that wraps around the nail. a slotted piece of thin metal.
Very interesting. I didn't know the tool existed.
Hi, is there a machine made to cut brad nails? For example, brad nails in a furniture. I just want to cut and paint again.
Thanks a lot
A reciprocating saw with a metal blade may be what your looking for!
How would this work on decking punching nail further down into joist.. countersink nicely?
Can you use the tool to push the nail heads through pallets insteas of using a sawzall to but the nails?
Have you tried pushing the nail through by the nail head? This would eliminate the need to pry the plank from the stretcher.
I have not, yet!
So the nail head will not go through the wood so easily and so you will still need to pry out the nail but now without a head. I could be mistaken but I believe there's a tool that automatically pulls out the nail from the nail head. Could be just my wishful thinking.
Tool in action starts @2:32

Every part of the Air Locker AP700 is replaceable now. (except the main body of the tool) 2021
Have you tried to lower the air pressure to see if the driver divot lessens the depth of the divot?
I have not but that is an idea!
Hi what diameter is the driven inner pin? I want to use it to punch holes through 26 gauge steel.
I wonder if the Compact Palm Air Nailer by HF - $20 - would do a good job also. Plus ya get a nailer to boot.
On the pallet wood, Can you rest a loose nail on top to see if it pushes one nail out.
huh?
Well done! I think, if you will press the nail gun fairly strong onto the board, the nails will be shot out. In the way you practice it, the nail gun is bouncing back and losing much energy.
Exactly. He wasn't sliding the tube all the way flush to the wood.
Wow I never knew such a tool existed. lol all the hundreds of hours me my wife and kids have invested in pulling twisted and bent nails and ring shank nails from oak pallets. Im almost afraid if I dont buy one of these. And they find out first. Ya it may not be pleasant.

Excellent test video! Obligatory Liked and Sub’d! 👍▶️
Thank you so much
You get any jams? Mine jammed up on first use
Hello can you tell me what is the name of tool that,?i want to buy it..thanks for answer
Thanks!
Is there an electric version of this? I can't seem to find one
Have the air locker for 5 years an being able to replace plunger is nice have run 1000s of pallet nails oak an pine through it an replaced 1 plunger real work saver
Great review, lots of useful information - thank you.
Thanks!
What kind of air compressor do you use with the nail remover?
Will it drive out twist nails.
Yes, if it can reach them
Thanks
Ty for great information 👍
I got one if u got your psi up to much it shoots the nails out like a bullet and some nails it will make a spark its a great buy😮
Awesome
hitting it on the head Will it drive a nail l all the way through the wood?
i seen this tool on some diy show today. never knew a air punch was a thing. it kinda blew my mind. am now shoping around for one bc i have no idea what a good brand would be.
The airlocker on amazon is a great tool I have two and used them hard for many years
@@lordsteven1st1 thanks. I will look into them.
I never knew!!
Wonder if you could grind a nail set down to fit for the flush cut nails?
Probably could!
So it’s a hammer? I’m struggling to see much utilisation for this tool
In a Australia we use a claw hammer!
Cheaper and more portable no compressor needed !
You are obviously not processing the amount of pallets in order to buy one of these.
Anyone in UK managed to find this out something similar? None available on amazon or eBay etc
I use a palm nailer just use it for the opposite reason I guess. It doesn’t leave a mark and pretty much does the same thing.
Oh that's what it does, how every niche.
Rusty nails in old wood?
Didn’t even know there was such a tool
At $43 I suspect it’s made of zinc or some cheaper alloy and not aluminum
A person w/ the tool needs to have a piece of metal that can be slipped around the nail so it can keep it from causing the divit.
I love that tool. I do a lot pallets.
That would be a life saver.
Thanks for sharing!
It marks the wood because the air pressure is too high. If the pressure is reduced the pin will not shoot out so far.
It would be nice if Amazon allowed Affiliates to give a discount.
Thank you Jim! My only concern would be the damage. Really wouldn’t want to use on any fine pieces
Hey David! Agreed!
David Connor I made a metal plate with various holes in and put the nearest hole over the nail before using the gun
The plate takes the impact and no damage is done to the wood 🙂👍
Imagine if pallets were made with screws instead of nails = heaven
#1 most hated thing I do in all of woodworking is removing nails...especially when some guy with a nail-gun blasted in 6 nails in the same spot when 1 would have been sufficient.
This tool will help you out! Probably blast all 6 nails out at the same time! 😂
You get a extra rod with the airlock
Its work in hard wood
????
What about nine inch nails
For removing Nine Inch Nails I usually just hit eject on my CD player.
Underrated.
What is the air locker connected to? The wire..... No body mentions that. Everyone talks about the air locker, piston replacement etc
Air compressor!
what are you going to do about it if the nails are buried deep without head? is this a toy?
It works very well even without the nail heads attached! No it’s not a toy!
It's not really a "Nail Remover", but rather a "Nail pusher" because it doesn't pull nails - it only pushes them through. Would be nice if it worked to extract rather than push. This only works when nails are sticking out the back side. Meh
its plyers and a hammer, next
You send me amazing link bro
This tool requires a air compressor. So good if you already have an air compressor. But if you don't already have an air compressor then this tool is useless.

I've got a stack of lumber with over 3000 framing nails in it. Wanna come help?
That tool is a huge waste of time and money
Fine unless you've got buried antique nails
Thanks
