Thanks for this video Mark. These old Ford diesel tractors are tanks. My grandfather still has his 4000 that was one of his main tractors. It was a workhorse in its day. Right now it sits in the hedgerow waiting to be restored along with our John Deere 60. Someday I will get to both of them. They don't build them this tough anymore. My uncle has three 445's which are like an industrial 4WD version of the 4000, each with a loader. Very tough machines.
That is a great 4000, like it very much, thanks for the video and that key that is hard to pull out is standard, we had two 5000"s and two 3000"s and all of the keys are hard to get out.
Hello mark, I was wondering if you knew if this model tractor can power a round baler? Here in Texas we grow a lot of haygrazer(sorghum Sudangrass) and I was looking to start baling it on my own with this model tractor? Any help would be great! Thanks!
+Tyler Shockley This tractor can run a 4x5. New Holland, Vermeer, and Massey Ferguson all make a baler that (at least on paper) can be run by this tractor. There is a video of a guy on here using a Ford 3930 to bale with a massey ferguson 1745 baler and that tractor only has about 45-50 hp which is more or less what the 4000 has.
Looks like a basic "maintenance-free"(harder to service) automobile battery, smaller than specified for the tractor. Smaller works fine in warm climate, no problem there. You could find a battery with the old fashioned caps and lighter color so you can easily see the electrolyte level and easily fill up, as this tractor has abusive conditions for the battery. However, any decent battery will do if annual hours are low.
Bypassing the neutral safety switch and standing on the ground to start the tractor is a recipe for disaster.

Wondering the same as you. Mine has 14.9x30 tires and the wheel hub is 8 lug. 14.9x30 tires are very hard to find.
