With youth teams we recommend you primarily run a motion offense so you can focus on developing skills, teaching universal offensive concepts, and giving players enough freedom so they learn "how to play".
If you use any set plays, don't use too many. Pick just a couple good ones to compliment your motion and to use when you really need a basket. In other words, you should avoid spending too much practice time trying to get young kids to "memorize plays".

I appreciate the simplicity and clarity of your videos, as well as the oral coaching advice by coach Haefner. Good angles, detailed-yet-uncomplicated, clear, nice job, your work has been a big help to me.
Thanks coach! I coach 5th grade and run a 5 out motion, I really like your spacing and movement and will be using it! I really like the double screen! Thank you! Hopefully one day I can get to where you are at!
5-out is great for youth basketball! That’s what I start out with. Glad you enjoyed the plays.
I also coach 5th grade and been running 5 out with these boys since 3rd grade. Looking to implement some “plays” in addition to the motion. Do you just assign the above plays a number to call them out mid game? I think it’ll be tricky at first assigning the players a position as currently we run pretty much a position less offense. I’ve recently grouped them into guard, wings, center for the motion to bridge that transition
@@BreakthroughBBall I'm a few years late but I am also trying to run 5 out with my under 14 boys (Germany has a different system, not school related, but clubs) and they often struggle to get the first pass connected. And as soon as they are in game they forget to cut, not matter how often we practice it.
I love your plays, though, I'll see if I can use them.
Only 2 min 30 in and I'm loving this already! Thanks for posting, I'll definitely use this with my youth team!
Nice Video, really informative
Nice plays!

Using these in practices and for my playoff game Wednesday
Thank you sir
Wow. Brilliant
Hi Coach, I'm from AFRICA, I really like basketball game but i don't know how to play with a team. I really need your help.
I've been looking for a way to keep numbers over a person in a video. How do you pull this off?
Nice play
What do you run turbo against?
Any Coaches on here, looking for advice. My kids run it fine in practice, even when we scrimmage each other. However, in our first warmup game, the kids had a hard time figuring out the play, no matter how many times they did it right or I drew it on my clipboard. Is there a trick or practice drill that translates into a game?
play game situations (real defense) in reduced situations (2x0, 3x0, 4x0), before 5 on 5. Also a big part of it i guess is just accepting the growing pains that come with kids being bad at executing at first. Let go of control, let them do it wrong again and again and they'll get it right eventually
What type of Defense does these sets work against?
Man
I love how everyone has something to do
That first UCLA cut to the strong side seems like it sets up a very poor passing angle. Why not design the screen on the weak side elbow?
Actually a really good idea. But then where does the weak side elbow go? Diagonal to the block on the strong side? It opens a good space potentially for isolation on the right.
