"Starting over" in the same world - that's exactly what I and two realm mates did on the first season of realm we were on with others who at the time had all but stopped playing in the world. We left our stores of supplies, our shops, our bases...everything behind except a stack of food, our wings & our rockets and flew around 3K blocks away. Once there, we put all those things into an ender chest and and the organizer of the endeavor broke the ender chest with a NON-silk touch pick. It was refreshing, and gave us the feel of a new world without 100% leaving the old and our friends. Eventually, we were geared up again, and in Nether mining, happened across an originally built ice road allowing to revisit the old locations should we desire to.
That's such an adventure beesilverbee! And breaking the enderchest that way was a great idea. Really puts everyone back to the start. I love that you eventually found the road back - best of both worlds!
that sounds like a great way to grow your world beyond your initial base as well, with multiple bases and areas throughout for each time you start kver
@@Dreymasmith Thank you! I've also been moving newer farms to new areas, and I use amulet world editor to erase old chunks if I only travelled through them, so my world size is small even after 2 years! My audience voted for the industrial district to be in the fields near spawn, but I am so tempted to pour my time into building atlantis around an ocean monument! your build has re-inspired me!
@@realphillipcarter that would be a lot of fun. And it's not like Minecraft gives us a lot of option on where to build guardian farms XD Go for atlantis!
That's a real neat way to address it. I vastly prefer that to just demolishing the thing to build something else in its place. I'm very...industrious when it comes to farms. I build a new one for that resource, then just destroy the old one so I can make room for a new farm with a different resource. Haven't been able to do this as much with my world now though
@@brendonw456 Hey thanks. I've never got rid of a build, but I have changed them over time. My lava-powered auto furnace is outdated now, but it's still decent, so I am adding more furnaces around the side and capping off the original lava pool I used on day 1
"Back up your back ups". Heck, even if the world isn't a forever world, every couple of months grab the save and make a backup. Can't hurt. Learned that lesson far too late. The number 1 demotivator for me by a long shot is spending hours on something only to lose it all and have to do it all again.
@cioffolino3818 Lookie lookie yourself! Seems the Hardcore trend has finally faded and turned into a Forever World trend. Will this finally kill the 100 Days craze?!
Also I really second the "starting over in the same world" thing. The multiplayer server I play on does this, having settlements all over the place is amazing and really fleshes out a world.
My main forever world is actually my sky block world. Especially after dirt became renewable. I've terraformed a mountain, an ocean, plains, hills, forests, a river, lake, a giant quarry, caves, mine shafts, etc. and made some nice little builds and farms. There is nothing in my world that I didn't grind for and place there myself (except for that one piece of bedrock, but we don't talk about that). I even have a second island because I bridged out to a new area until my island was out of sight and started anew.... Though, they are starting to merge again after all this time. My world often doesn't even feel like a sky block world because from many places, you can't see the endless void, only terrain and builds. I do enjoy normal Minecraft, but there is something satisfying about making a world out of nothing.
That is amazing njnjco! I am terrified of skyblock (I've tried it once with a friend), so this is awe-inspiring to me. What a fantastic world to have as your forever world!
Came across this video randomly in my feed. I love it. I have a 4.5 year old forever survival world. I love being able to go back and walk through builds I've spent tons of time on. Fighting raids in my colosseum is so much more fun than just wandering into a village to do it. I do, unfortunately, have more ideas than time (though I'll get to most of them eventually). Subscribed because I love seeing long term worlds in all their glory. I'll have to go back through your videos to watch it progress.
So happy this popped up in your feed janusofborg. Welcome aboard! Your raid colosseum sounds awesome, such a good idea! As to the other ideas, the beauty of forever worlds is the luxury of time.
My forever world is a multiplayer realm with my family. Me, my mom, my aunt, my uncle, and cousins have played on that world for like 3 years now. We all agree on what theme an area will have and build it up slowly based on the theme. So right now we are building a city, but we have done a fairycore area and a medieval area. We have build railroads to every area and neither hubs where you can travel that way. We have also done themed neither portal builds for every area all of this is survival, and it is a fun slow project that we all build on from time to time. It's nice to be able to hang out with them and play minecraft together.
It's so insanely rare to see and hear of a whole family really cooperating and hanging out with one another when playing video games. It sounds like such fun for your whole family!!
0:53 Dreyma "Frankly, every world I start I sort of think of as a forever world - even the hardcore ones - because I am a pack rat." This made me smile warmly because I am exactly the same. On any world I intend to collect everything, store it beautifully, and build everything. That may or may not happen, but it's the intention going in.
I feel the same. As an external hard drive of old world files (most of which I'm sure I won't ever open again) can confirm. I'm also liking the idea of more than one forever world. Actually there was one time I promised myself I would only do one specific project in a world ... should have probably set a time frame and clear definition of where the project ends XD
My biggest issue with working on singleplayer world is the factor of meaning. I find it more worth it/meaningful (for myself) to spend time on Minecraft only if with other people. If I do it alone, then it feels (to me) that I wasted my time. Which is very sad, but it's a thing i can't avoid whenever I boot a singleplayer world. :(
And that is the thing I meant to say and forgot shapeswitch_mood - a forever world doesn't have to be singleplayer. I have another forever world which I completely forgot about until I saw your comment, which is a LAN world for playing with my kids. Only they are now both in their 20s and too busy and the eldest is caught up with their own forever world. But it's there for if/when we all feel the need to play together again. There really is no limit to what a forever world can be.
Maybe try a creative forever world Gangstafarms? My eldest has adhd and has the same issue with survival worlds as you, but has an incredible creative forever world that they have been playing in since 2017. And if that doesn't appeal either, that's fine - Minecraft lets us play however we want!
What you said about letting forever worlds go is really beaultiful. I've unfortunately lost many worlds, some deleted accidentally, some intentionally, I think I lost some to corruption aswell. My first world was created in 1.5.2, in creative mode, either in 2015 or 2016 when my cousin had just downloaded minecraft for me, and though I don't even remember what happened to it I still remember my first house, a huge oak fence rollercoaster (which dropped the fps a lot lol), a chest full of different fireworks and a house that used beacons in the ceiling as a source of light. Although I miss it, sometimes it's good to let things go; that world doesn't really matter, nobody cares about some code in a folder, what really matters is how it influenced you, and I'm so glad to have all these memories because, in a way, they are what made the person I am today. Thank you for this video, God bless you.
I've always felt sad that I didn't have one already, seeing others have these worlds they've been in for years. But ironically this has been for years now! I think I'll start my forever world next time I start a new world.
Thanks for the walk down memory lane! Such a lovely way to show how we progress from a newbie, just placing blocks and learning how to design buildings, to creating beautiful builds with thought and planning behind them. I love visiting the DD! My forever world is my sons server, which he backs up and care takes diligently. For the updates, he created a side world for players to explore and collect from. Thanks to him, we have the best of both worlds. I love traveling that world to see what was built, in the beginning, and what is being built now. The styles are so different! Happy New Year, Lovely Lady, and keep building!
Happy New Year Suzi! Three cheers for your son! And I love the idea of a side world for updates. I don't think we would realise just how much how our skills develop and styles change if we couldn't walk back and see. It's quite amazing.
This was one of the best forever world minecraft video's i've ever seen. Everything you said makes so much sense and your builds are amazing. You've earned yourself a subscriber. I always started new worlds with every new update, but now I've started a (hopefully) forever world a few days ago and this really inspired me to go for the long term. I'm nowhere near as good of a builder as you, but i intend to keep everything and see where it leads me. Great video
Welcome aboard Eddie! And as Imp and Skizz say comparison is the thief of joy. We all build in our own way. Go for it. Good luck with the forever world!
Thank you real_mushroom_hunter. I got the idea from the Minecraft Advent Calendar Book Collection (they have the pudding as day 10). The full episode for building that base is here th-cam.com/video/CBAxAhnm4A4/w-d-xo.html
What a timely episode! The server I play on with a few others are in debate about updating or starting over! It’s hard to let go of a world you’ve invested so much time in. But it can be an exciting new adventure as well!! Thanks for the video!! ❤
That's a tough discussion for a group to have Anjanette. Updating or starting over - both have their plusses. With Alphacraft it was always a given that at some point we would stop and begin again, but to be honest with you I have the world download for season 2 and I still go back in there sometimes and work on my Edwardian industrial village because I really loved that. Maybe you guys can do something like that if you decide to start over - best of both worlds. Good luck.
My first world was in 1.3.2 back in 2012. I still play on it from time to time, and before I update it (currently I'm on 1.11) I do a backup and travel a few thousand blocks, build something, spend a while there, and repeat. It's not as lived in as I would like, but it contains my first ever spawn. It's in the middle of a jungle, a hole in the ground that I made, with a bed, a couple of chests, a furnace, a crafting table, and it connects to several tunnels I made because I was too afraid of going to the surface lol. It's still there and I go back from time to time to remember my humble beginnings. I use the /tp command because I've traveled about 70k blocks from spawn and I have a book and a room somewhere with coordinates to all my bases, no matter how small they are. I haven't played there in months, but I'm definitely going back.
Oh wow user-is7xs1mr9y. That's incredible, and I am so glad it's still okay and still going. I have a notebook with all my bases and villagers in all my worlds, but I rarely think to put the coords in - you've prompted me to go back and fix that up. Thank you!
Created my "forever world" just a little bit before Christmas of 2023 but back then i didn't think about it being a "forever world", i didn't even know the term, all i was thinking was that i got tired of starting over again and again in my friends' worlds and that i wanted a meaningful fresh start, i also wanted to relive some of the memories of playing alone, without mods in a completely new and unknown world. I played it for a few weeks, took my time doing stuff i didn't normally do on other worlds, i set up a farm, built docks to connect the islands, and really cared about the aesthetics of it all. For the past year i kept coming back to it, sometimes for weeks, sometimes for a day or two, quite a few people have joined and built something there during that time and that makes it very meaningful. In fact, this is the first world where i built a mob farm by myself(creeper farm) in survival, and it's a world where i took my time when it came to killing the Dragon, i waited for my friends who also wanted to do it with me. Now that i know the term "forever world" that's exactly what this one feels like, it's the first world in ages that i kept consistently coming back to, the one that holds a special place in my heart and already feels nostalgic despite being only 1 year old. I call it Vinland(yes like the anime, but that's exactly how it feels when I'm walking around) and i have intention of abandoning it. I have so many ideas and projects that i never started because i never had a fixed world where i could start them, but now i do. I was just playing on it today btw. Thinking about building a highway, kidnapping some villagers and building a trading hall, after i finish my second house that is :)
That sounds wonderful Himmel. And very cosy. I don't think it matters what we call a world, it's more about how we think and feel about it. Your world sounds excellent.
Thank you koi_bee! You don't have to be in a forever world all the time, just when you feel like it, and it could be multiplayer if that's more your style, I forgot to mention that in the video. But that said, there is no rule that says you have to have a forever world at all if you don't want to. I love that Minecraft lets us play however we like!
maybe pick a random one of your old abandoned worlds and build something nice in it, then see if you want to build more things in it. you can also try starting over in a new part of your old world, and then naturally you might realise you want to go back and expand the main part of the world (that happened to me when i got bored after a month. the world became 5 years old eventually) also in my experience the way a forever world truly becomes a "forever" world, is you just randomly decide to go back to it for fun. i took a break from my world for like 3 months before going like "you know what? i feel like playing minecraft. why dont i see if i can pick back up that one world i used to play on?". then i proceeded to play on it for another 5 years lol. also, have a wander around your old worlds. reminisce about them and think about why you wanted to move on from them, then do something with that information.
I am a habitual world destroyer. I have 2 "forever" worlds. One that I started in october of last year, then got bored of and forgot about roughly a week thereafter, and one that I've started 4 days ago and will probably get bored of and forget about in probably 3-5 business days.
I love your inner thoughts and narrations. I've also suffered from cold oceans everywhere and biome imbalances in my first forever world. The second one which is my current one suffered from named pets disappearing and me losing them forever because I didn't backup the world more often. Besides the technical stuff, I think the key to a forever world is "adding lore". If your world has lore, stories, myths, history, characters etc, then you never get bored or experience fatigue. Creativity is your strength and Minecraft is here to set your mind free.
Such a good point dtothee - adding that story aspect really helps pull things together and drive things along. Sorry about your pets - that kind of stinks.
This is an amazingly underrated video. My current forever world is just over 2 years old now. It's a bit unique. I play a modded version of Minecraft Beta 1.7.3 called Better Than Adventure. I've made nearly 70 episodes in it and accomplished so much. Over 1200 days in.
I was addicted to Day Zero, seeing where I'd spawn, seeing what I could get on the first few days. Took a really long time for me to get anywhere near something I could call a Forever World. But in 2024 I played a lot in the same world and I love it. I think I reached a tipping point, when you get good gear its hard to go back to basics in a new world, which brings me back to my forever world (and pushing myself on the Redstone and larger builds.) Only thing is there isn't anything 'new' left in the world for me to discover now, save a few armour trims and wolf types.
Until the next update Jess nc4oy! But it could be fun to complete the armour trim collection, and the wolves too. Is there a farm you haven't made yet? Or a building style you want to try out? And I do understand that day zero addiction. The closest I got to scratching that itch in a forever world was for the viewers to pick new coords and me to teleport there with nothing. Which was actually a pretty good substitute!
Thank you for making this video, the algorithm recommended it to me and now I've found you, and you're brilliant! Going to binge your back catalogue while I work on my forever world ❤
Making everything aesthetic is such good advice. I've been playing Minecraft since 2013 and had most of my worlds deleted over the years with computer crashes and hackings, which made me take a break for a while. Somedays I'll come back to Minecraft but get bored, but recently I've been playing on a world and decided to make it my forever world. A big part of this was making it an aesthetic world which is more challenging since mine is survival, and I didn't want it to be about getting materials and fighting the dragon ASAP, just a world to explore, collect, build, and experiment. For example instead of a trading hall, I'm making individual houses for my villagers based on their professions, and I've been interested in village transformations for a while now. I also want to make it my goal to collect every item in the game which gives me something to work towards long term.
I love doing villages like that seagaulle, and having bases where each building is for storing a different thing, but that came over time. Initially it was everything in one place, but as you say, it's more interesting spreading things out. Good luck with the world, have fun!
something to add, it may be a good idea to have a github repository or a drive file for the world, that way if anything were to happen to your world you can reopen it as if you never left. (and with the github one, go back to older versions!)
The thing that's been holding me back from getting back into Minecraft regularly is lack of a broader goal or way to better organize worlds. I sit down to create a world and then don't know what to do with it. I got to thinking about this forever world concept, and your video has highlighted some things that have me thinking along two directions: theme worlds and time-based worlds. Your video highlights that these worlds are like 3-D art journals in many ways, so the idea of starting one survival world every year or every 3 years or somesuch appeals greatly. And themed worlds (various architecture types, maybe a story world heavy in lore, an experimental world, an archive world of cool builds) would be a way to take ideas and funnel them into long-term worlds where said theme can be developed over many years, without the somewhat random clutter than can happen in the time-based worlds (I have ADHD, so spaceships showing up in ancient Egypt might be a thing in one of those worlds, whereas I can avoid that if I have a defined theme). I can see the two types of worlds sort of feeding each other over the long haul, and ending up with more of a "foreververse", with the file corruption risk that comes with massive worlds being reduced and distributed (while having backups of backups).
It is certainly a thing at the moment ArcticTacoGaming, but I did feel I had to chime in. I was a little tired of seeing "I'm starting a forever world" and felt a longer term view was needed.
I just found your channel and you earned a sub. I have been playing MC for nearly 15 years and I wish I kept my first world. Even as a file. But as I grow up, I love the thought of being able to look at builds and be like "This was started in undergrad" or "this was built when I first moved away from home". Its funny but MC worlds could really be looked at as scrap books.
My current forever world is only about a year old and when there's a new update that changes world generation I just removed all chunks that have been inhabited for less than 5 minutes. Have done it twice now, for trial chambers and pale garden. I never even considered doing it any differently. EDIT: On a side note, I'm glad my guardian farm is one of the simplest designs out there and there's almost a zero percent chance that it will break in the foreseeable future. It relies only on basic spawning mechanics and it probably works all the way back in 1.14.
That's a smart move with the guardian farm QuotePilgrim. My guardian farm in the Dreaming Dominion was one of Gnembon's, based on spawn mechanics (built before 1.14, I might tell you, so don't panic), but something changed in the last few updates, I don't know what, and it went from teeming with guardians to one or two every few seconds, virtually empty. It could have been the change in water behaviour rather than in guardians that did it, I don't know. But yeah, I agree, keep farms simple and based on in game mechanics and farms should pretty much be safe.
I lost my first forever world 5 years ago because my laptop stopped working, I really miss it. After I bought my new laptop i created a world and have it backed up on google drive, usb, my sister's laptop and terabox. I still play on it right now and its already 4 years old, sadly I'll never see that world again.
I have lost so many of my early worlds, my first PC world might still be on my old laptop, or it might have been wiped when I reset it because it was getting so slow. But I have had a very bad habit of wanting to clean up my files and my minecraft worlds end up getting caught in the crossfire. But now I also have a forever world, and to avoid a lot of the problems and suit my playstyle I'm keeping it on one old version, 1.1. Whenever I have motivation to play I log on to that world and it's been very nice!
I have a World Series that 2 years old the projects I’ve done are huge and some are yet to be complete I love it so much. I’ve been playing this game since alpha
Hey Dreyma, I have used my original world for exploring modded Minecraft, (with a copy of it). The original dates back to early in 2018, right before the aquatic update. It has been upgraded with every release since. Thanks for sharing your worlds.
That's a good use for an original world sidh. And I may look into copying my poor original world so I can at least walk around in there again. Thanks for the idea!
As someone currently on the knifes edge about moving on from a forever world this is a fantastic video to help me kinda make my mind up 😅 I don't think I can forgive myself for the mistakes Ive made.. kinda helped me let go
i started a survival world in bedrock on the switch with my siblings. we play with local play and due to being on switch, it’s hard to do some things. i decided, after cultivating this world for a good year, it would stick around for a while longer. i really enjoy how we shaped everything, even setting up base at spawn for convenience. recently, we decided to “start over” due to the pale garden update. we started the world during the lush cave update i believe and we had already grabbed all interesting things from previous versions, so we branches out and decided to settle at a village and convert it. we’re having a lot of fun in it and we’re turning the village into a cherry grove sanctuary due to being close to one. once we build enough and get a good feel of everything, i plan to add lore and story to the whole thing. im really excited for it. also! a tip for others who have a forever world and also have issues with remembering coordinates and stuff. Carry a book and quill with you. i’ve adopted this tip from another youtuber and it has helped A TON when i swap around between worlds. i write locations, materials, and even a to-do list in my book and quill so i can quickly get back on track when i enter a specific world.
What a wonderful world redbeeans. I love the sound of the plans for the new world. And that's a good tip re coordinates. I actually keep a physical notebook on my desk for that, but have started an ingame to do list in a book and quill in the TH-cam forever world.
I had that exact chunk swapping issue! Drove me crazy! I lost 2 worlds to it. But i’ve learned how to make backups, and I’ve been in my current world since 2017. I have about 5 main bases. I even managed to copy and paste my original xbox 360 world ( the world side was so small back then) from 2012 and have been basing there for a while
The chunk swapping thing was just awful McHagis! But sounds like we have both managed to make and keep a world since then. So glad you could also paste across your xbox world, something that old is a gem worth preserving!
Just ago for it yippie-yayy! Sometimes if I am lacking in creative vision I think for a bit for an idea and then look online for inspiration, either in real life or in art, or think of what books I've read and if anything sparks. Something usually comes up.
I have a forever world that I've been building in since 2021 (before 1.17 came out), and I honestly don't really mind my "outdated" structures even though I'm learning to build differently now. I find the progression and changes interesting, and if I really dislike something, I can always change out some blocks with some newer ones and stuff like that, but I really just like to pick a new big build location if I grow tired of a previous "outdated" project. The other thing for me is that my farms don't really break because I made them so simple and manual, and hardly use any redstone as I'm not very good at it. What little redstone I did use for collection systems and other small stuff isn't likely to break in any random update. Even my gold farm is so manual that the new changes coming won't affect it. The last thing I do is use mc selector to trim large sections of explored terrain that I only explored for new items or mobs in a new update. I recently deleted almost the entire northern section of my map because I only flew over it looking for a woodland mansion and the new dogs. All I left was the raided mansion and a zombie village I stumbled across along the way. I'll probably fly over it again soon for all the pale garden stuff, and maybe the new ambient snapshot stuff, and likely will just delete everything again except for the pale garden when I've found everything I'm looking for.
Um, I don't know QuinnMillard - maybe check with Nintendo? But it is cool that you have a four-year-old forever world there. What's your favourite thing on it?
your works are awesome; such great dedication! I have my one and only forever world i used to play... which i wont be able to now due to studies..... I havent built any more than 4 buildings and still it sparks so many memories.....
And it will sit and wait for you SO111OO11 till studies are done or holidays roll around or whatever. And isn't Minecraft wonderful that our buildings spark memories. Good luck with the studies!
I have 2 forever worlds, 1 I use all the time and the other I return to every so often for nostalgia; that world I’ve had since 2012 with friends on the world that I don’t see nowadays. It had the old villagers and they weren’t useful in the slightest, I had 3 to represent the friends lost. After the V&P update those villagers got the new look but wouldn’t ever take to a work station, it was kind of sad that they broke, they now have a base in the sky for reasons, and it’s the swankiest base you could imagine. Living like the kings they were
That is a venerable Forever World gglover! I am glad your friend-villagers are able to live a life of ease, retired from their work and reminding you of your friends.
This is my first video from your channel and I subscribed not even 2 minutes in. I love your personality and builds so much! I will definitely be paying attention to your channel and watching some of your other videos. Much love
Recently my made long term survival world my “forever” world and I’ve kept things pretty small for now but I’m considering moving away some blocks away since I’m getting bored, or making a new big build of some sort . My base is actually near spawn so I can always compass to spawn and find my base from there :) I do miss my old Mc worlds lost to time, even if it’s been years and they had barely any builds. I think about them a lot.
If you have fun making it and are proud of your work (or at least your improvement) it’s absolutely not a waste of time… I plan on starting one once my pc is fixed, and doing multiple seasons, progressing slowly, so I don’t run out of things other than building to do… Building is fun, but I need to have more than just that… I need to make farms, fun redstone contraptions, slowly get better gear, etc…
And there are so many different farms to make HettycTracyn! And so much redstone! I go through phases of working it out and making things and then not touching it for ages and having to learn all over again. Ah well, keeps me busy 😄
I've been building a base on an island that I just liked and can already tell that this is going to be my forever world because I never get tired of tweaking it.
I'm so happy you found my channel merandasomnolentgamer! As you are starting in Minecraft, I'll be cheeky and direct you to my tips and tricks playlist, which hopefully you'll find helpful for those little things we all encounter and wonder "how do I do that?" th-cam.com/play/PLJr8typJAjx2xh75JWS8li7ScZXBLvOun.html
Just got a ps5 today n starting porting over worlds. Played on the switch for about 5-6 years having three forever worlds (one of which I just got realms only to continue playing on a less glitched n lagged out devices, going from 12 to 36 chunk distance is absolutely insane!) Completely forgot about so many long term worlds both survival and creative I had backed up on both ps4 and ps3 since like 2016. Spent my entire day off going through memory lane and it's amazing and nostalgic. It's weird how all the reference photos and ideas from other media just start flashing in my head just like it did a decade ago. Brought me back to a simpler time, was just starting out on my own irl, I missed it and this exactly what I needed today. It's funny how this was the video that popped up when I opened TH-cam
Kinda got this video a bit too late.. Lost my Hardcore a few months ago, it was 4 years old and I very much resonated with all the points Anddd now I’m in mourning ✨ I very much saw how it grew with me, as it began to glitch and I got to see desert pyramids amidst snowey taigas, glaciers almost smashing into cold beaches And the chunks were far out enough to look more like grandiose boarders of the new vs the old world Then I got too reckless in a bastion, for an ARMOR TRIM out of all things..
I'm so sorry GoingSwimmingly. Don't blame you for being upset about this. You know you can keep a hardcore world after you die? Go to spectator and then save it however you want. You can't play in hardcore in it anymore, but you can play in survival or creative, or just in spectate if you prefer. They don't have to be gone forever.
I considered starting a forever world about seven years ago. I hadn't actually played survival very far despite Minecraft being one of my very favorite games, instead building many beginnings of adventure maps that never saw the light of say. So I booted up Minecraft on the latest version, created a world on the default settings, and played survival. It was in a jungle by an ocean with the new kelp, drowned, and dolphins. I didn't have the of term forever world in my head, but I thought it was the standard way to play Minecraft, so I intended to keep it. After a while of playing, however, I felt doubts about playing in the latest version. 1.13, Update Aquatic, was the first update I felt hints of misgivings about. I didn't dislike the update exactly, but there was something about it that felt cluttered to me. There were things here and there that bothered me in a way that I wasn't sure was because I was getting older and had an inherent uneasiness for things that were different, or if I had legitimate doubts about the direction of Minecraft's design. I thought about how I didn't have my first survival worlds, and how this world wouldn't have any outdated terrain or artefacts that could convey how long I have made memories with Minecraft. I wondered what version would feel "right", or how I could even find a right answer to that. Around that time, I found and started watching Grian's Evolution SMP in which he and company started back in Beta 1.2 and gradually progressed through the versions. So I decided to start a world in the earliest version for which worlds could be saved for future updates, that being named Infdev in the launcher, though really Alpha 1.0.0. I was in it for the long haul, so I decided to break the updates into month intervals, i.e. 30 ingame days (consistently 30 days to reflect Minecraft's spacial and temporal uniformity), i.e. 10 real-life hours. I counted the days by dividing the Time from my world's NBT data by 24000. When my world started approaching Alpha 1.2, I worried that the world would move to fast, so I decided that minor updates (e.g. 1.1.0 to 1.1.1) would occur at 30-day intervals, and then major updates (e.g. 1.1.2 to 1.2.0) would occur at 360-day intervals aka an ingame year. So that is the pattern of progression I have been playing with. The world was pretty boring after getting over with mining challenges (for which certain caves can be really dangerous). There are just very few things the game gives you to go out and do. I figured it was a challenge of creativity to keep meaningully playing the world anyways. I kept the world for a few years, up to the end of Alpha 1.2. By the time I reached that point, I had discovered the BetaCraft launcher, which provided access to every archived version, including the early Infdev versions that I hadn't played in my world, which I was bothered by. I decided to check out an Infdev world on the same seed, just to see. I really didn't want to restart my world. The terrain was quite stunning with its numerous spiring peaks and lakes. So I kept playing, considering if I should somehow merge the worlds after I reached the end of Infdev. But I've kept playing anyways, and I like this world better now, it's become really homey like my other world, and I think the terrain of my Alpha world is rather samey in comparison. I'm still in Infdev, because I'm a slow builder who gets easily intimidated by working on projects, and I've been cheating by pausing the updates because I want to finish a couple builds that rely on the water being broken before I move on. My world doesn't have nearly as many impressive builds as Dreamysmith's, and I don't know if it ever will, but we will see. That is my story, I didn't mean to be so ellaborate aha.
Thank you so much for sharing your story seafarersubmerged! I only started playing in 2017 so it's really interesting to hear about earlier versions. I watched Grian's evolution series too (was a big fan of Netty, really miss her putting out content) and it's fascinating watching how the game changed - I can see the draw of actually experiencing that. Love that you are still going, and for the record, pausing updates to finish builds isn't cheating, it's being flexible.
Re: farms breaking: this is why if you design your own farms, playing in a forever world changes how you do that. I often see farms on YT that make me go like "OK, but I could see so many ways for an update to break this", like iron farms/villager breeders holding villagers in place with just a couple of blocks, relying on pathfinding behavior/villagers not jumping off of a bed platform/etc. And that's kinda wild to me, because if you sacrifice just a bit of space efficiency and a couple of blocks, you can encase them properly and make something that's way less likely to break. But ofc, if you're making a new world for every update, yeah, no need to care about that at all, and if your worlds last 2-3y max, you'll still probably be fine. I'm not complaining tho, I'm happy that it gives me this incentive to make my own farms, or at least adapt designs from others!
I know what you mean thomaskolar. I am slowly gaining the confidence to design my own farms, but if I do make someone else's and follow a tutorial I am careful about what I choose. Ones that rely on bugs are rejected - they WILL break when the bug is fixed. I like ones that work with game mob AI, like Gnembon's although even those aren't foolproof. It's his guardian farm I have had to tweak twice and then completely remake (so now it's my design and bears no resemblance to the original, but I wouldn't have got there without him), and it was his copper farm that became redundant, although to be fair, it still works, it's just not needed anymore. But at least the casing above the ground still looks cool.
for me i had to give up on my intended Forever World. It lasted 5 and a half years. My building preferences (and me as a person) changed/grew so much that the World started to just feel like a remnant of the past, and i wasn't happy staying in a world where many focal builds no longer felt right for me. (there were also so many builds specifically dedicated to things that happened in the past, and the world was tied emotionally to a particular external thing that is now also in the past, which certainly increased the feeling that the world was of the past.) after i've touched up and finished all the plans for the 5 year "Forever" World, i'm hoping to start anew. and i'm hoping i won't stop feeling at home in the new world (i also have a vague plan of how i want the Terrain of the new world to be. i know i feel most familiar and comforted by the old Terrain Generation, so i want to have a solid chunk of the world be generated in 1.14). i'll definitely wait a long time before trying with a Forever World again though, i'm not ready for it right now. if it starts to become a trend that every few years i just outgrow my old worlds, i think i'd gladly keep making new ones whenever the time comes. but we'll see.
We grow and change and not everything can come along with us Kit. And I do like your idea of starting over every few years if that feels right for you.
I went back and watched my first video last night Spoon, after this went up. It was wild. I was so proud of having played Minecraft for a few months and I still knew basically NOTHING 😆 And there is NOTHING that says people have to have Forever Worlds. Thank you for being along on this ride.
Yeah, the update problem is the biggest issue I have with forever worlds. I just plan to confine myself to limited areas and unlock a new area when a big enough update happens. It doesn't always work well depending on the render distance.
If you are on Java you can use something like MCA Selector versuzzero. It's good for trimming down a world without causing damage, but as with everything, back up the world first.
I have three forever Minecraft worlds myself. Two of them are modded on the Java edition, and one is a recently started vanilla world on Bedrock. After ten years of on-and-off playing, vanilla worlds became boring, so I switched to modded exclusively. My first modded world is one I created myself, adding mods and resource packs to enhance my experience. Whenever I go back to vanilla, I miss the little changes I've made, like having the shield not taking up much of the screen in my off-hand or the Netherite with twinkling gold veins added by a resource pack. I also include significant mods like the 'Immersive Portals,' which removes the purple portal block and adds a seamless transition from the Overworld to the Nether - it's incredible. The second modded world is a pre-built pack called Terrafirmacraft, which makes Minecraft more realistic. I play it occasionally but less often than the others. Lastly, I started a Bedrock world to test out a resource pack called 'Actions & Stuff' along with the 'Realistic Biomes Addon.' Both are purely cosmetic but add a lot to the game.
@@Dreymasmith I also wanted to mention that I love your worlds. I even appreciate your older, simpler builds in the same way I enjoy seeing children create cube houses out of gold and diamond blocks in creative mode. There is a certain charm in watching them build something and take pride in it, without worrying too much about the aesthetics. While everyone may view this differently, to me, what matters most is the 1 block at a time, block by block construction process of a build, the intention behind the it, and not just the looks in the end👍
I wish I could still access the first world I ever made over 10 years ago. I still have memory’s of it and how I build stuff there, 1 memory which ill never forget is Unlimited Glas and Bricks in survival ( now I feel old 😂 ) but I’m proud of my now forever world of around 4 years. I just got back into MC after Months not playing it ( mostly due to work ) and it felt sooo good logging on again. I‘m actually past the infamous 2 week phase rn, it feels so good that I actually just got a new keyboard only cuz of MC ( old one was dying😂 )
Sorry about your first world. I know how that feels. Unlimited glass and brick would have been excellent - I missed those first few years (all my own fault). So glad you are back into it again, and hooray for new keyboards - my current one is nearing its end, but wow I love it and am trying to hold on to it.
@Dreymasmith i can highly recommend the Logitech MX mini ( the mechanical one ) I love it since I have it. Its almost 15 years now since I play this game 😅 time flies...
Its nice to have this kind of history, I have plenty of old memories that I'd have liked to have a forever world for... But uh, primarily its different mods with different versions, as well as on servers... So doesn't really work My option on things like this though, and why I don't do it, more especially the survival version (the creative can be a good fun niche, not grindy) is because technology changes fast, your access to it is only through the game window itself, and as I said incomparable stuffs, regardless of whatever game stuffs you do a lot of it just can't be in the same place. Grinding in games and this kinda endless stuff is interesting because it mirrors real life, but is done significantly easier and faster, with preexisting gamified routes, depending on the game, to achieve the same thing you can in a game in real life could take a hundred or hundreds of times the effort, say building a big and nice house in minecraft, might take you two days in minecraft, but like 200 days in real life assuming you have a place to build it, and the mats are trickier to get, ect ect. But the value in real life stuff, is yes, you only get 1% the progress from 300% the effort (physical or highly mental things are naturally much more difficult then playing a game with a preexisting structure) but this real life stuff can be maintained for far longer, perhaps actually your whole life, and holds the benefit of being truly compatible with everything else you'd do in it, there is the disadvantage of some stuff decaying, as well as not being able to make the rules of the game, you can't really choose to defy gravity with your "block" placements, nor can you make monsters made of bacon and gunpowder spawn in the dark of your grinder, but as a whole, to live your own life as a forever world in itself is perhaps the real fulfillment
It's really interesting the comparison between Minecraft and real life. Thank you for this teoballo. So much food for thought. And speaking of which, I had never thought of zombies as bacon monsters. They shall be forever changed in my head 😃
The creative mode archive/testing world is a brilliant idea! Plus, it’s so much easier to figure out unique block combinations if you have access to all the blocks… then see if it’s feasible in survival… I need to do this… Plus, that means I have a pseudo-backup incase something goes horribly wrong… though backups onto an external drive would be smart…
I am so glad I archived my builds this way HettycTracyn, but yeah, I do my world saves backups onto an external drive and onto the cloud these days, just to be safe.
Thank you H0RR0R_HANG0VERZ. I do like the rail network in the creative world, especially the ticketing system - very proud of making that myself with no tutorials. Bent my brain in half working it out though 😆 New to Minecraft? You have so many wonderful times ahead! Go for it!
My forever world is a server me and my buddies play on. It’s mostly me and one other guy most the time. But either way we just wait until like any major update go 20 k away in the nether and make new areas. We’ve been in the one area for a while now though. Fun video !
That's a good way to get to new areas j-robspoketolk - I hadn't thought of using the nether like that. If it's okay, I might do the same next time, with credit of course.
@ yeah it’s not too bad, we have iceboat paths in the nether lol. But like 1.20 area is so cool it’s all cherry grove and sniffers and stuff. It’s fun that the world gets put apart like that too. But I can’t wait to keep up with your world ! Just found it today!
@@j-robspoketalk8054 Yay for iceboat paths. I take it you are using packed ice? 1.20 was a really beautiful update. And welcome to my world, or worlds. I have two TH-cam worlds (which are both forever worlds in this video). Currently building something in the Dreaming Dominion while planning something for the younger world.
@ yeah it’s packed the one part is all blue ice, if you wanna check out the server I can show you it ! And yeah the longer world is really cool looking from what I’ve seen so far !
@@j-robspoketalk8054 we used normal ice on Alphacraft back in the day (before we had packed ice), with snow underneath. Such a pain to put down, but kept all the mobs at bay once it was done.
Do you mean the sailing ship at around 2:54 Coec? If so, I don't have a tutorial for that (it would be sooooo long) but there are four episodes devoted to it which do give some measurements and walk the viewer through the construction. You can find the first one here th-cam.com/video/u4qUeCTKql0/w-d-xo.html Hope that's a help.
That's the ship. Sorry I didn't think to add a time stamp. The video link works as it looks like you build it while playing and that's very useful. Thanks
and can use 3rd party tools to move buildings from your non forever worlds to your forever world, and can use cmds without 3rd party tools too if they are smaller structures.
So my eldest keeps telling me NightmareRex, but I have a habit of mapping them out on grid paper, taking heaps of screenshots and then manually rebuilding to archive them. Which is nuts. I need to look at your suggestions.
I have an answer that might satisfy all the essays about forever worlds - play how the hell you want... you can have your forever world, or two. And dozens of quick challenge run worlds. It is a video game after all, i think?
I just started my first forever world that i am actually committed to. So I'd decided to make youtube videos to share the experience, and now I am terrified about the corruptions because corruption on a world that is your own is one thing but when your videos depend on that world it adds another layer 😂
As a word of encouragement justwaspYT, Minecraft is a lot more stable these days. Plus, back up every time you finish recording an episode, or finish a build, or whatever. Regular, frequent backups will save a lot of potential trouble. I back up to a seperate internal hard drive, an external hard drive and to the cloud, although that may be excessive.
@Dreymasmith haha yes I have started backing up and I am very early in my world it's only been like 4 months, I have the backups on an external drive only but that should be fine 😅
I don't remember how much worlds I accidentally or rashly deleted, how much of them corrupted, even those worlds I lost with the system corruption few times. However, I learned from it that losing a world is just as bad as deleting it yourself, it is still a loss but I can always start over with the same passion as I had in 1.2.5 and this is what I am doing right now, tho I will not delete the world I played for some time, cuz who knows, maybe I will return to it even in a week, or a year. I hope more people would feel as immersed into their worlds as we are. Just stop blaming lady agnes for all that went wrong since caves and cliffs. Mojang stopped listening, so you should just accept it and play like you did a decade ago, not caring about updates and just playing for years on the same good old and loyal world you build and reshaped with your own hands (and a device to play on). Turn some music you used to listen to when you were younger, feel the nostalgia and let your inner child be your wandering partner, like throughout all these years. Now, go on. Show us, and show yourself where your journey will bring you next
Absolutely right Kitsune Shirotsuki! Every word! And I get really annoyed when people blame Agnes - she and the others at Mojang work so hard for us all, i don't think they stopped listening, they just stopped being buffetted by all the different voices. For me the nostalgia music I love is the in-game music. As a content creator I generally have music turned off (it makes editing easier), so playing with the music on is a real blast from the past.
yeah... on "blaming lady agnes for all that went wrong since caves and cliffs", some people really get caught up in nostalgia and love to hate the present
Fantastic video mate! 7:45 1.18 ruined my first world :( since then its been fantastic! definitely have the same problems to trim or not to trim haha. Keep it up mate! very much enjoyed it! subbed. Happy New Year!
exploring new Updates in my world became an issue for me too, so what i did is i started a world specifically made to only explore new features. it might turn into a Forever World just by nature of Minecraft Updates lol
That's fantastic Dumpy. I have a ps4 world with a steampunk texture pack, but I haven't opened it in years. You are inspiring me to at least go back and look at it.
You know what, i don't have a forever world - not for building and playing in. Sure, i have one for testing redstone or build components - but not for playing in. I have several that i started to try out World Edit, and specific build ideas, but i don't play there. I've tried to start one, or two, but never played in them. Perhaps this is a problem. I don't know. I started playing Java on a server, which led to a second, and now a third and fourth. I've poured my soul into all, but to be honest, i'm struggling at the moment. Taking a bit of a break, as it were. I still log in at least once a week, but i'm feeling drained. Ideas i had don't feel important right now. I don't know why. Well, i do - i play for the social aspect...and i'm finding myself alone more often than not.
No right or wrong with these things Julie. And servers can be forever worlds. Or LAN worlds. and nothing wrong with taking a break, you have had a rather busy year! Things will pick up again, this time of year is always pretty busy. Sending you a hug.
it may not be glamerous or easy or fast but because of all the updates is why i do superflats they hadnt changed the terain there and you can customize it before you start i do keep back ups upon backups but i move them to another folder of their own then if i want to use them i just put them back in the play folder and have at it
I own a forever world as well, which is the only world I really play Minecraft on anymore. But mine has a twist because it's a polyworld, which means I'm starting in the first version of the game and going from there. It's been 3 years now since I've started and I'm still not even in survival (still in classic) and sometimes the burnout really hits hard cause all you can do is build... But I'll get to modern one day maybe
This concept does make me want to play in the world more too, since I know later on I'll go back and see the tiny classic world made of 5 blocks and see where I was then. Plus, updating through all versions allows you to obtain/do a lot of cool things you normally can't do (like collecting bedrock for example)
That's a fantastic idea Mr._L and something I've never done. I didn't know there was no survival at first, or that you could collect bedrock as a block. It will certainly offer a LOT to do over the years! Can you sleep in a bed yet? (I know that wasn't a thing at first - but not much more)
@@Dreymasmith before version 1.0 (when the ender dragon and end dimension got added), minecraft went through 6 development cycles. Pre classic, classic, indev, infdev, alpha and beta. Pre classic is how the game started, adding cobblestone and grass. In those versions u could only really build with those 2 blocks with steve mobs roaming the world but not much more. In classic a lot more blocks were added (like 20) plus basic mobs like the creeper, zombie and skeleton (those werent in the creative versions tho. Im currently in classic. Indev added survival, torches, crafting, smelting and the day night cycle. Infdev added infinite terrain. Alpha added more features like the nether and beta added beds, more redstone things and much more. You can actually get bedrock in multiple ways. One way would be in the indev versions. In those versions you spawned in a house with every block in the game
I am starting (yet another) forever world This January 2025 😅, I had technically two forever worlds in 2024 , one of which was a 100 days on an island style. But I am sure this time, it's different😂🎉 thanks to you!
If you haven't deleted them they are still there waiting till you are ready ThatCoffeeKnightfromEurope. Good luck with the new world. Whatever happens, have fun!
Thank you for sharing this! When you are dealing with updates like 1.18 and the terrain, how do you blend the old world terrain with the new terrain? In my experience you can get giant straight walls all around the old terrain, the old areas you have explored, when you try updating. I never figured out how to fix that.
DeamBliss it is a problem, although... from 1.18 forward this seems to have become less of an issue as Mojang has gotten better at the terrain update thing. Still not fool proof, but a lot better than it was. I am careful when using MCA Selector to not just cut out whole lines of chunks but instead I follow biomes or coastlines where I can. I don't know if it helps, but I go to the trouble anyway.
Thanks teterproductions. I sort of have with this one, although there's a fair bit missing. I have realised that weirdly I have developed this world largely east-west. I need to branch out more north-south.
Also seen tons of forever world talk and people starting forever worlds after a certain youtuber covered it and encouraged people to make forever worlds
That was actually why I did this video RowanWolf. I saw so many videos of people starting forever worlds and I thought it worth talking about how they work in the long term, rather than just at the beginning. I know there are worlds out there older than mine, but I still think seven years is a good enough length of time to really see the outcomes.
oh so THATS why youtube is so good at fulfilling my current sentimental minecraft experience. coincidentally its coinciding with me finally deciding to finish up my own world of 5 years, that no longer feels right to keep as a forever world.
I have a long-term world. I wouldn't necessarily call it a "forever world", because I do want to leave it eventually, but don't know when yet. I've been playing it since 2019-2020 or so, and it's my first and only survival world since getting back into the game after a 5 year hiatus. I would like to keep it, but my starter area is kind of a mess, and the terrain is not the best. I want to build a castle on/near a mountain, but on my seed there are just barely any mountains present, so finding a good location and starting over there is not really an option. I've been resetting the chunks that I haven't spent much time in to make the world run better, and because of this I have random water "cut-offs" in ravines, which obviously looks ugly. Resetting chunks for updates is also a chore, not to mention that I use a whole lot of datapacks and have to update each and every one of them, and i've been postponing it for so long that two updates have already come out. And lastly, I wanted to build a city in the future, but I doubt I'll manage to do such a massive project in survival. So if I do build that city in that world, it would probably be in creative, which at this point why even have a survival world in the first place?
It's your world outcast, if you want to switch between survival and creative for particular projects, go ahead and do that. There's nothing wrong with it. And if you aren't happy with the world, start another one, see if that's any better and then either run both or abandon one in favour of the other. Whatever works for you is perfectly fine.
I have 2 One is a 1100 day survival world except for my own sanity allow my self to look up structures otherwise it would take me forever to find things and superflat world I intentionally corrupted becuase a build idea I had needed a sheer cliff face and I figured chunk errors would be the fastest way while giving me the option to keep all my creative builds together It’s would be 4 if I counted the redstone test world I made and an (albeit old) copy of the survival world because my base is a mess and if I need to test something outside of a flat world I can test how it would look/ interact with what I’ve already built (mostly having to do with planning where machines will go or testing a farm that requires a structure) I remember doing this to figure out where I could put an iron farm that was far enough away where the trading hall wouldn’t interfere but close enough where it wasn’t inconvenient
It's a good idea to have somewhere to test out things like proximity superNova - would be awful to put all that work in and found out the iron farm was four blocks too close to the trading hall. And it's really interesting to use deliberate corruption for superflat terraforming - that's clever!
Or you can use MCA Selector to bring things a little closer in sharkastic. Depends on play style and temperament. Do you trek out in the overworld or through the nether to find new chunks?
It actually took me a while to appreciate the concept of forever worlds. I'm one of those artists that will draw something and not like it the next day and throw it away! Lol That's sort of how I did Minecraft for the first few years. The updates didn't help-- I mean they were awesome, just sort of breaking to get there lol Once I started playing modded I and litematica to plan builds and make "blueprints" I realized how cool it would be to have a world I developed over time, and how interesting it might be to look back on my past work. I have only a few forever worlds, one survival in bedrock, and two survival in Java, one with mods and one is mostly vanilla with performance mods. I haven't been back to the first one(vanilla, Java) in a long time. It was my first attempt at a TH-cam series, and yeah. Pretty bad lol But I still have it on file, just in case. 😊
Forever is a long time. 😅 Started one a few years ago with the intention for it to outlive me. For this to happen, it has to be SMP so that others can inherit and carry it on. Maybe years from now, there may be the ability to fuse worlds together seamlessly, leading to foreverworld children. 🤷♂️who knows? Any file on a harddrive is just as ephemeral as any other magnetic data. Backups are key, but flash drives seem to be the most stable medium. So far. I also limit the world boundry to leave room for updates in the future. So far, we've bound our efforts to 5.5k and have all that the game has to offer so far, within that perimeter. As updates come, we can expand as needed. Another reason for a forever world is that it gives time to reasonably engage with huge projects with far-reaching vision. Not being blessed with playing for a living, some things just take 5 years... or more.😂
Forever children would be a cool thing koanbonwa! I have friends who have a limited world boundary which they expand with each update. It seems to be a very sensible arrangement.
Patience is soooo important here Clare. I agree with you wholeheartedly. I suspect a lot of us have learnt the hard, painful way and lost worlds we love.
Now you are making me uneasy Arrowshotfive! Although, I'm on TH-cam, so I am being watched (hopefully) 😆 I should have said in the video that a Forever World can be multiplayer. I have a LAN world I share with my kids that I completely forgot about because we have all been too busy to play together for the last couple of years. But it is still there, waiting for when we are ready.
@@unnamedweirdo3804 I totally agree!
I quite like when old farms become obsolete. I punch holes in their walls, make them look ruined, and add lore
That's a really good solution realphillipcarter! Very inventive.
Oh yeah, I learnt that one jakekeltoncrafts. Backup on an external hard drive and on the cloud, just to be sure. It really hurts to lose a world.
Look look whos here lol
@cioffolino3818 Lookie lookie yourself! Seems the Hardcore trend has finally faded and turned into a Forever World trend. Will this finally kill the 100 Days craze?!
@@jakekeltoncrafts I predict a "100 days in my forever world" trend XD
Ahah didn't happened to me with a brand new ssd that died with all my backups on it 🥲
Also I really second the "starting over in the same world" thing. The multiplayer server I play on does this, having settlements all over the place is amazing and really fleshes out a world.
That's a real achievement with a multiplayer server thomaskolar! Fantastic!
I want to see it!!
@@RushikeshApte I know - me too!
That sounds wonderful SnowWhitesBite! What a fantastic thing to do with your family.
This is one of the most wholesome comments I've ever read.
That sounds amazing! So lucky to have so much family all hanging out together like that!
It seems I am in good company MindFiend! Solidarity sibling! 😄
Does the project end Metopema? What defines end? I see nothing wrong with this approach - power on! 😀
Maybe make a forever world and use the Essential mod if you’re a Java player to invite others to your single player? essential mod allows for that!
@@Dreymasmith That's very sweet! I understand what you mean, and LAN world can work. :)
I wonder how a modded forever world work.
@@shapeswitch_mood7221 Go for it. My eldest's forever world is heavily modded, they keep threatening to teach me how to use Create mod XD
@@RowanWolf22 Thanks. Always good to know the options!
I cant have a forever world my adhd keeps saying time to start a new world like every 3 weeks lol
It's definitely the memories that are important jameloncio!f Your world sounds excellent and stays in your mind.
I've always felt sad that I didn't have one already, seeing others have these worlds they've been in for years. But ironically this has been for years now! I think I'll start my forever world next time I start a new world.
No time like the present grasswithflowers! My third forever world is less than a year old. Go for it!
I lost my forever world when my hard drive crashed. I was very sad! I back up all the time now!!! I love all your worlds
I'm sorry about that Art. It's awful when that happens. Have you got a new forever world now? How's it going?
@@Dreymasmith I started a new one that I love, but I spend most of my time on Cait now creating a beautiful world with my friends
@@artchick8024 Cait is gorgeous. I'd love to get back on sometime and see what you guys have been doing. You are amazing builders.
@@Dreymasmith Thanks!! You are welcomed whenever you would like for a tour or to play. I can see a cozy "little" dreamy build somewhere in the world!
I love your creativity, especially the christmas ornaments base is a genius idea, I've never seen anything like that before
Thank you real_mushroom_hunter.
All these Forever World videos make me want to start my own but I can very rarely keep a world for more than a month
Thank you koi_bee! You don't have to be in a forever world all the time, just when you feel like it, and it could be multiplayer if that's more your style, I forgot to mention that in the video. But that said, there is no rule that says you have to have a forever world at all if you don't want to. I love that Minecraft lets us play however we like!
maybe pick a random one of your old abandoned worlds and build something nice in it, then see if you want to build more things in it.
you can also try starting over in a new part of your old world, and then naturally you might realise you want to go back and expand the main part of the world (that happened to me when i got bored after a month. the world became 5 years old eventually)
also in my experience the way a forever world truly becomes a "forever" world, is you just randomly decide to go back to it for fun. i took a break from my world for like 3 months before going like "you know what? i feel like playing minecraft. why dont i see if i can pick back up that one world i used to play on?". then i proceeded to play on it for another 5 years lol.
also, have a wander around your old worlds. reminisce about them and think about why you wanted to move on from them, then do something with that information.
I am a habitual world destroyer. I have 2 "forever" worlds. One that I started in october of last year, then got bored of and forgot about roughly a week thereafter, and one that I've started 4 days ago and will probably get bored of and forget about in probably 3-5 business days.
Hey, that's fine zombirific. We each have our own way of playing and our own way of viewing things. Go for it!
I’ve had many long-term worlds and I miss every single one I no longer have. I love to walk through years of history, as you explained.
It's sad when they go mootbooxle, but there's always the opportunity to start anew.
I just found your channel through this video and now I'm binging through your newest series!! I absolutely love your voice, its so calming ❤

This is an amazingly underrated video. My current forever world is just over 2 years old now. It's a bit unique. I play a modded version of Minecraft Beta 1.7.3 called Better Than Adventure. I've made nearly 70 episodes in it and accomplished so much. Over 1200 days in.
Thanks DiamondDepth! What was it that drew you to a mod of Beta? It's an interesting choice.
@@Dreymasmith there is lots more farms to make, i wanna be super rich mahhhaaa! 😆
Thank you for making this video, the algorithm recommended it to me and now I've found you, and you're brilliant! Going to binge your back catalogue while I work on my forever world ❤
Oh wow! Thank you so much nemnos! Hope you enjoy
I didn't know about the github repository tydino - thanks for letting me know! Good idea.
anything your working on should be both backed up on multable USBs and cloud. never rely on just one or the other.
The 'forever world' video may be a trope, but I'm glad you knew you had something to add and joined in! If only to show your worlds a bit.
Welcome aboard Vulpyiren! And yeah, that is a really good way to look at our worlds - as scrap books!
But you have the memories of it RLPCYARN, and now a four year old world where you are making new memories. and lots of backup! Good thinking.
this was such a good video, and you have some of the most creative builds i have ever seen!
Thank you SO MUCH salamandersaladman! I'm kind of stumped for words 😊So happy!
I'm sorry you lost those other worlds jaide, but it's great you've got a new world now. Remember to back up regularly, just in case...

As someone currently on the knifes edge about moving on from a forever world this is a fantastic video to help me kinda make my mind up 😅
I don't think I can forgive myself for the mistakes Ive made.. kinda helped me let go
outofexp, forgive yourself, it's Minecraft, it's very forgiving, and let go at the same time. And enjoy starting all over again! Onward and upward 😀
I’d rather have a “For the foreseeable future” world because forever doesn’t really exist to me
And if I screw up a build, I can just try again somewhere else
Nothing wrong with that saltygrandma!
i started a survival world in bedrock on the switch with my siblings. we play with local play and due to being on switch, it’s hard to do some things. i decided, after cultivating this world for a good year, it would stick around for a while longer. i really enjoy how we shaped everything, even setting up base at spawn for convenience. recently, we decided to “start over” due to the pale garden update. we started the world during the lush cave update i believe and we had already grabbed all interesting things from previous versions, so we branches out and decided to settle at a village and convert it. we’re having a lot of fun in it and we’re turning the village into a cherry grove sanctuary due to being close to one. once we build enough and get a good feel of everything, i plan to add lore and story to the whole thing. im really excited for it.
also! a tip for others who have a forever world and also have issues with remembering coordinates and stuff.
My forever world is a huge modpack, which definitely makes my brain break, but I've been playing since 2011 so it's all good
More power to you ReachTea! Onwards and upwards!
So glad you could also paste across your xbox world, something that old is a gem worth preserving!
saw your builds throughout the video and got mad demotivated holy moly not only do i lack the motivation i also lack creativity
MCA Selector is such a useful tool Ithenna. And yeah, keeping farms etc simple is a good insurance policy.
I have a four year old forever world on the nintendo switch edition. is the switch supposed to make printer noises?

I have 2 forever worlds, 1 I use all the time and the other I return to every so often for nostalgia; that world I’ve had since 2012 with friends on the world that I don’t see nowadays. It had the old villagers and they weren’t useful in the slightest, I had 3 to represent the friends lost. After the V&P update those villagers got the new look but wouldn’t ever take to a work station, it was kind of sad that they broke, they now have a base in the sky for reasons, and it’s the swankiest base you could imagine. Living like the kings they were

Recently my made long term survival world my “forever” world and I’ve kept things pretty small for now but I’m considering moving away some blocks away since I’m getting bored, or making a new big build of some sort . My base is actually near spawn so I can always compass to spawn and find my base from there :)
I do miss my old Mc worlds lost to time, even if it’s been years and they had barely any builds. I think about them a lot.
Yeah, those old worlds stay with us wowowhaaaaa. But it's great you've got a new world that makes you happy.
If you have fun making it and are proud of your work (or at least your improvement) it’s absolutely not a waste of time…
I plan on starting one once my pc is fixed, and doing multiple seasons, progressing slowly, so I don’t run out of things other than building to do…
Building is fun, but I need to have more than just that… I need to make farms, fun redstone contraptions, slowly get better gear, etc…
And there are so many different farms to make HettycTracyn! And so much redstone! I go through phases of working it out and making things and then not touching it for ages and having to learn all over again. Ah well, keeps me busy 😄

Serendipity Aka60thChip! Sounds like a wonderful time going through those old worlds. Enjoy playing in the expanded world on the ps5!
Kinda got this video a bit too late.. Lost my Hardcore a few months ago, it was 4 years old and I very much resonated with all the points
Anddd now I’m in mourning ✨
I very much saw how it grew with me, as it began to glitch and I got to see desert pyramids amidst snowey taigas, glaciers almost smashing into cold beaches
And the chunks were far out enough to look more like grandiose boarders of the new vs the old world
Then I got too reckless in a bastion, for an ARMOR TRIM out of all things..
Love that you are still going, and for the record, pausing updates to finish builds isn't cheating, it's being flexible.
heartfelt look into this kind of topic, rly liked
Makes me happy, thanks Corndog!
(there were also so many builds specifically dedicated to things that happened in the past, and the world was tied emotionally to a particular external thing that is now also in the past, which certainly increased the feeling that the world was of the past.)
after i've touched up and finished all the plans for the 5 year "Forever" World, i'm hoping to start anew. and i'm hoping i won't stop feeling at home in the new world (i also have a vague plan of how i want the Terrain of the new world to be. i know i feel most familiar and comforted by the old Terrain Generation, so i want to have a solid chunk of the world be generated in 1.14).
i'll definitely wait a long time before trying with a Forever World again though, i'm not ready for it right now.
if it starts to become a trend that every few years i just outgrow my old worlds, i think i'd gladly keep making new ones whenever the time comes. but we'll see.
We grow and change and not everything can come along with us Kit. And I do like your idea of starting over every few years if that feels right for you.
Well that vid brought back good memories of your early plays.
I have never had a 'forever' world. Not really interested in having one.
Nice vid.
I went back and watched my first video last night Spoon, after this went up. It was wild. I was so proud of having played Minecraft for a few months and I still knew basically NOTHING 😆 And there is NOTHING that says people have to have Forever Worlds. Thank you for being along on this ride.
on my forever world i plan on a museum sometime to collect the things i dont need anymore but cant get rid of.
That's always a good idea chezburger!
Yeah, the update problem is the biggest issue I have with forever worlds.
I just plan to confine myself to limited areas and unlock a new area when a big enough update happens. It doesn't always work well depending on the render distance.
If you are on Java you can use something like MCA Selector versuzzero. It's good for trimming down a world without causing damage, but as with everything, back up the world first.
nice video! this is the first time i’ve seen you and i fr thought you were some people’s popular childhood youtuber with atleast a million subs lol
Thanks catmeowmeow! I WISH that were the case! But no, just little me doing what I do and loving Minecraft.
All three of those worlds sound great Berstiger! I am particularly intrigued by Immersive Portals - that's very tempting to test out.
@@Berstiger11 that is absolutely right! We all have our own ways of building and should take pride in that.
@Dreymasmith i can highly recommend the Logitech MX mini ( the mechanical one )
I love it since I have it.
Its almost 15 years now since I play this game 😅 time flies...
Its nice to have this kind of history, I have plenty of old memories that I'd have liked to have a forever world for... But uh, primarily its different mods with different versions, as well as on servers... So doesn't really work
My option on things like this though, and why I don't do it, more especially the survival version (the creative can be a good fun niche, not grindy) is because technology changes fast, your access to it is only through the game window itself, and as I said incomparable stuffs, regardless of whatever game stuffs you do a lot of it just can't be in the same place.
Plus, it’s so much easier to figure out unique block combinations if you have access to all the blocks… then see if it’s feasible in survival…
I need to do this…
Plus, that means I have a pseudo-backup incase something goes horribly wrong… though backups onto an external drive would be smart…
I am so glad I archived my builds this way HettycTracyn, but yeah, I do my world saves backups onto an external drive and onto the cloud these days, just to be safe.
Wow!! Your worlds are INFREAKINCREDIBLE!
That rail system is INSANE!! 🤩
I’m still fairly new at this game…
….. my building skills = NONEXISTENT 😅
Any chance you'd make a tutorial on that white ship that was in one of your worlds? It was super cool!
Absolutely conqueror345! And Minecraft is a game that gives us all the options. We are so lucky!
@justwaspYT that should be more than enough.
Welcome aboard snoozby and happy New Year! Yeah, 1.18 broke a lot of worlds I think. It was brutal, but much better since then.
@@Dreymasmith Thankyou! Definitely brutal!
exploring new Updates in my world became an issue for me too, so what i did is i started a world specifically made to only explore new features. it might turn into a Forever World just by nature of Minecraft Updates lol
That's a really good idea Kit. Your own forever Minecraft update archive world! (That's a bit of a mouthful).
2:29 wow like so many Builds there look soo amazin really im impressed
Thanks RexGamingDE! That's what seven years of Minecraft obsession looks like 😄
I’ve had my ps4 world for years now and still play it almost everyday
That's fantastic Dumpy. I have a ps4 world with a steampunk texture pack, but I haven't opened it in years. You are inspiring me to at least go back and look at it.
First time I've seen sheep turn white when sheared, even though they had a color before. It's kind of fun to watch. yes yes I'm a bedrock player 🙂
What normally happens to sheep on Bedrock 2Dracula2??
Sending you a hug.
it may not be glamerous or easy or fast but because of all the updates is why i do superflats they hadnt changed the terain there and you can customize it before you start i do keep back ups upon backups but i move them to another folder of their own then if i want to use them i just put them back in the play folder and have at it
That's a really smart idea with the world saves janheward! Superflats are the workhorses of world generation freedom, always there, always reliable.
I dont know how many worlds i started since alpha, how many servers we started with our friends, but all of them are gone.
Sorry to hear that scafx, but you have the memories of them. Here's to a brand new world and many more memories to come!
This is fantastic-thank you!
You're welcome westernbiological!
@Mr._L Wow! Thanks for that rundown. That is amazing. Minecraft really was the little game that could!
You should make a world tour
I have 2
One is a 1100 day survival world except for my own sanity allow my self to look up structures otherwise it would take me forever to find things and superflat world I intentionally corrupted becuase a build idea I had needed a sheer cliff face and I figured chunk errors would be the fastest way while giving me the option to keep all my creative builds together
It’s would be 4 if I counted the redstone test world I made and an (albeit old) copy of the survival world because my base is a mess and if I need to test something outside of a flat world I can test how it would look/ interact with what I’ve already built (mostly having to do with planning where machines will go or testing a farm that requires a structure) I remember doing this to figure out where I could put an iron farm that was far enough away where the trading hall wouldn’t interfere but close enough where it wasn’t inconvenient
It's a good idea to have somewhere to test out things like proximity superNova - would be awful to put all that work in and found out the iron farm was four blocks too close to the trading hall. And it's really interesting to use deliberate corruption for superflat terraforming - that's clever!
A forever world means traveling thousands if not tens of thousands of blocks to find things from new updates. I wouldn't have it any other way.
Or you can use MCA Selector to bring things a little closer in sharkastic. Depends on play style and temperament. Do you trek out in the overworld or through the nether to find new chunks?
Thank you for the inspiration.
You're welcome Olinugent
It actually took me a while to appreciate the concept of forever worlds. I'm one of those artists that will draw something and not like it the next day and throw it away! Lol
That's sort of how I did Minecraft for the first few years. The updates didn't help-- I mean they were awesome, just sort of breaking to get there lol
Once I started playing modded I and litematica to plan builds and make "blueprints" I realized how cool it would be to have a world I developed over time, and how interesting it might be to look back on my past work.
I have only a few forever worlds, one survival in bedrock, and two survival in Java, one with mods and one is mostly vanilla with performance mods. I haven't been back to the first one(vanilla, Java) in a long time. It was my first attempt at a TH-cam series, and yeah. Pretty bad lol
But I still have it on file, just in case. 😊
Always good to keep it around just in case someolderoaktree!
Hi Dreyma, Happy New Year 2025! .. great way to start the year revisiting the DD
Patience is soooo important here Clare. I agree with you wholeheartedly. I suspect a lot of us have learnt the hard, painful way and lost worlds we love.
this is such a high quality video I loved it!
Wow! Thank you so much jas_era8! 😊
ive been restarting in the same world so many times in my world ive lost count lol
So not so much a forever world as a perpetual world TBplaysPC. That's pretty cool!
i cant do singleplayer, it feels so uneasy to me. like im being watched
@@Dreymasmith yeah i know, im just saying i dislike single player, but great video tho
@@Arrowshotfive absolutely fine, Minecraft is wonderful in that we can each play how we like, and thank you
