Update: I’ve got my Mojave Grom ordered! It’s on back order so it should be here in a couple weeks! My RC budget is quite small so I’ll be saving for a bit to get one of these. Hang tight. I will be getting one and converting it to a solid rear axle!
Looks just like my 1/8 but 1/4 the price and easier to pack around. ~1/16 Might even be able to use it indoors. Hopefully companies are quick to start making parts for these things they look like they could turn into some really cool builds
Looks like a lot of trophy/baja/desert trucks are 125” wheelbase which would put this at 1/16.2 scale. Track width seems usually 92” (but I think that’s centerline of tire which is about 12.5” wide) so that’s 1/15.4. So kinda seems like 1/16th to me. So yeah seems big unless I’m using the wrong vehicle comparison. A 2024 Tacoma can be 132” to 145” and a 2024 f150 raptor is 145” to 157” wheelbase which is ballpark range for 1/18th or 1/19th.
treuuuuuu but if you want to make it brushless at the moment there are not really any 2845 or larger motors with a 2.3mm shaft i took apart my mjx 14301 and found out it has the correct motorshaft for the pinion 2.3mm
@@makestuffbetter19 sad news after a bit of research the motor from the mjx 14301 is 3mm exact not 3.175 and not 2.3mm i got a brushless 2445 motor from a friend with a 2.3mm shaft
What do you consider to be the best RC trophy truck/desert racer, not including the Traxxas UDR. Can be any scale, but it must be a solid rear axle/trailing arm set.
Best is a relative term, so I’ll break it down a little. Best for parts support, The losi Baja Rey 2.0. Best for features, UDIRC 1002 (2 speed trans. selectable 4wd. might have locking diffs?) Best home made, my 1/24 scale trophy truck. I have a series on the build and it’s not done yet.
@makestuffbetter19 Really? I hear the udirc ones are junk.. I've been hoping someone would come out with a smaller scale trophy truck with true to life suspension. Something between the orlandoo hunter trophy truck and the UDR. Something 1/18 scale and around $250 would be nice.
@@JP-qq2kn The Yikong df7 is very good too, much more resistant than the traxxas udr but not so nice. My brother got one and he just put a udr body on it and it makes it the most unbreakable udr lol.
To anyone debating if this Grom is worth it, I bought a Mojave Grom this weekend for my 7 and 5 year olds and it’s an absolute blast! I’m thinking of buying another one for myself or waiting for maybe a Vorteks Grom or which ever one is next. Definitely worth it.
Would love to see it with a solid rear axle, i wonder how it staxks up th the LATRAX trophy truck/shortcourse model I am with you with choice of vehicle style but my smallest is the TRAXXAS UDR and Yikong FUN HAVER FORD BRONCO R at 1/7th then a 1/6th Super Baja Rey clone the 30degrees North Super Desert Truck then I have 5th gas Kraken RC KV5TT and the Ultra 4 Vekta 5 and a HPI 5SC and a 5B Class 1 along with a LOSI 5ive-T and FID Dragon Hammer awaiting my Rlaarlo MK7 crawler along with three 7th scale road cars hardly used, prefer my offroad vehicles.
You: “ and I’m pretty sure companies are going to follow suit…” - I sure hope so buddy! Would love to see something also from Losi, Redcat and maybe from those new up’in comers , MJX and Rlaarlo. I knew this new Grom was gonna catch your interest. Seems like a solid buy at $149.99! Looks like a nice matchup for my old school Duratrax Vendetta!👍🏻
While really tempting I’ll probably pass. I have a 1/24-1/18 track in the garden and I run my Losi mini t 2.0 and Losi mini desert truck (aka the original mini t with a cool body.) and the bashers just aren’t as smooth. I really want a 1/18 sct that’s just a scaled down tenth scale racer like the mini sct based of of the 22sct or the mini b/t that’s 4x4.
I know its an american company but you can get a hypergo 1/16 brushless for the same price. They need to get these prices lower and make them brushless out of the box.
So I just picked one up and I'd put the top speed in stock gearing at around 30mph. Estimated could be around 20 or 25 but that's a tad faster then a mini t2.0 stock which I had but brushless swapped
They are indeed two very different trucks. They’re both called 1:18 scale, and I’m working on an IFS system/kit for the TRx4M to convert it into a prerunner. So when I’m done I’ll have a very similar TRX4M.
