- In this review we look at the Dyson Ball Animal 2 upright vacuum cleaner and discuss some of the things we love about the machine. See it on Amazon: amzn.to/2SjhnfA
Read our detailed review here: vacuum-cleaner...
We review and test the Dyson Ball Animal 2 and we start by highlighting what you get in the box. This is followed by discussing the abilities of the tangle free turbine tool, how the tools fit on the machine, the level of vacuum power/suction, cleaning performance on bare floors and carpet, the advantages of the active base plate on the bottom of the cleaner head, the length of the power cord and the hose/wand assembly, the two washable filters which includes the HEPA filter, emptying the dust canister, and the vacuum warranty.
I would also like to point out that I make every effort to be unbiased in my videos. If there is something about a product I do not like - I will let you know!

*Couldn't live without it! Does a Wonderful job **MyBest.Tools** cleaning floors of dust bunnies pet hair, kitchen crumbs, etc. Easy to wash, dry and pretty easy to put parts back in place.*
When you realized vacuum reviews are more important as you get older.
Lol True. I'm @ that point now.
Lol, 27 😅
When you don’t want to waste £200_400 on a hoover
LOL! Me too.
VERY 😂
I bought this for Mother’s Day for my mom and she absolutely loves this thing. We have a Dyson cordless animal V6 (I think it’s that model) that she loved, but the battery wasn’t long enough to clean the whole house. So with this it’s a non issue. The suction is incredible, I’ve NEVER seen our carpets this clean. They’re literally a different shade of color now. It’s honestly gross seeing how much more dirt you were living in when you thought your floors were clean. We had a shark upright vacuum that was nice, but the suction definitely degraded over time and it didn’t hold up well in the 5 years we had it. We’ve had many Dysons in the past and they’ve all been wonderful (except the small ball that ended up breaking). We switched to Shark, but ended back up happier than ever with Dyson. Also, it’s probably the best Mother’s Day gift ever. Really expensive (especially for a 17 year old) but having my family chip in and help made it well worth it. She genuinely loves it and appreciates it.
Some one close by me had a dyson dc65 next to the trash can by the street. I toke it home and all that was wrong with it the roller was jammed. Cleaned it out real good and all works perfectly. That's probably why they got rid of it. I just wound up with with a free dyson vacuum. Pretty dang sweet. There loss my gain!
They dont deserve a Dyson if they can't even clean the brushroll.
I stroll by rich people areas every now and then and find some gems.
I bought a Ball Total Clean from Goodwill for $25. All that was wrong was that the brush bar had lots of hair tangled. After about an hour of cleaning, I basically had a new, working Dyson Ball Total Clean for less than 1/10th of the original price.
OML BRUH LOL A DYSON FOR ONLY 25. Their models are really advanced so in markets they’re expensive. But at good will with a Dyson that cost 25 bucks? Happy Gigantic Discount day for me!
Same here cleaned it out and it took so much out of. My carpet
I love my animal ball 2; I'm vacuuming daily now just because it's so fun to play with this animal of a machine. I get that people complain about noise and weight/maneuverability/sucking up rugs or carpets or whatnot, but if you're like me and simply want the more tenacious thing available (both in terms of suction and agitation) to get crap out of typical rugs/carpets, and you don't like canisters, and you're a fit guy/girl who doesn't give a shit about weight (I LIKE the weight) or the noise, then this thing will not disappoint you, it's a fucking beast.
Also, seriously, why do people care about the noise level so much; like is everyone vacuuming at 3am in a crowded apartment building?
Haha same. It’s so fun
Lol, mde my nite
The fact that its so powerful, means I won't be running it for near as long... My old dyson is noisy, but it just won't get the lint or pet hair off a rug anymore... So I want an update with real grunt..... 🙂
We just got this to replace our old vacuum, which I had thought was working very well....Boy...after I ran this thing over just a small area of carpet there was SOOO much stuck in our carpet it was amazing.
What do u mean stuck on the carpet? I just bought mine and its hard 2 push..does it do the same thing?
Styled4Life I have thick carpet and mine isn’t hard to push. And it picks up so much stuff it’s crazy. And I vacuum every day.
Excellent review. This is the one I will go for. My Dyson DC04, which is 19 years old, has served me well and only needs a new hose, which is not currently available now. Can't beat Dyson.
I just went from am15yr old DC15 to this and LOVE IT
I had no idea how to use that attach ment brush holder. Mind blown! Also great review
I agree, the special tangle free tool is excellent, I have two dogs, a long haired cat and I have long hair. I use it a lot!!
Play at 1.25 speed. You're welcome
Slowwwwwww Dowwwwwwwn Yourrrrrrrrrr Braaaaaaaain.
Amazing review! It made my choice much easier! Thank you
Thanks Thais.
Wonderful review. Thank you. I think it would interest you to know that others have tested the animal 2 and found that there is always leakage around the canister. Also, the Hepa filter does not have any kind of gasket around it. Thus, it allows air to leak out around it. The animal 2 is not a sealed system.
Yes i second that, its not a sealed system and someone on youtube showed that in a test. I found out the hard way and thats why i went for a shark az950ukt. Dyson amazing power to pick up unfortunately is useless if the dust its not kept in. Yes the HEPA filter has a poor rubber seal witch is on the engine side and very hard to replace. I defo recommend the shark for allergy sufferers like myself till Dyson manage to seal them properly.
Our Dyson DC40 served us for many years, but we decided to replace it. Dyson recommended the Animal 2 and it worked great on our Berber carpet in one room. However, the power brush head is completely stuck on our medium pile carpet in the rest of the house. Too much suction. This one is going back for return.
Can’t wait to get that pamphlet on the history of Dyson.
When my Dyson animal needed repair still under warranty, when Dyson saw I actually used it with cats and dogs in the house, they refused twice to repair it. Read the small print carefully that is placed in the middle. I suggest cleaning the vac inside and out so it looks like it was barely used, then Dyson might repair it.
What was wrong with it
Positively perfect!! What you didn't cover in one video, you certainly included in the other. I REALLY appreciate this; I happen to be needing a new vacuum, desperately. You have helped tremendously with my decision process in these two videos! You should be compensated just for making them, as they are done that well. Thank you. Take good care of you and yours.
Did it always come all the way out the hose?! Lol i am thinking bout getting another dyson (since mine keep shutting off), n i did NOT know the hose extension could come out lol. Maybe it's just on that model. 0:17
I think it would be nice if you showed how the vacuum performed on embedded dirt. Pouring a mixture of flour and coarse sand on a completely clean medium pile rug that's not dense and embedding it down with a heavy roller and run the vacuum several passes over it to see how much it picks up. Tests like these have been done on the Ball Animal 2 and it picks up about 70% of the embedded dirt, which is one of the best scores compared to most bagless uprights. But I figured you could do it too, because you have a much wider audience. :)
Exactly, why not step on what they placed on the carpet. Also, add dirt - like dirt you get from the outside and step on it. It will suck most of it, but there will be some things that won't until you pass through it several times.
Thank you for video. I am looking to see how to dust my sofa with the attachment roller easier.
Can it handle Capn crunch?
Can you tell me what the top of the vacuum looks like the red piece does it have something stopping the air or does is flow through.
Thank you thank you thank you!!!! I've just spent 3 hours screaming and pulling my hair out bc I couldn't figure out how my new vaccuum works. (The booklet that came with it was no help, and one of the booklets and the warranty information was missing altogether. Yes, I bought it new from a reputable source. )
I'm still somewhat confused. What are the various attachments for? Although it was a relief to learn that not all of them have a "place" on the vaccuum itself. I don't understand how your vaccuum magically became smaller -- like a large handheld, while mine apparently does nothing of the sort. I'm having some buyer's remorse because I didn't buy the easy to handle cordless version (which is what I thought I purchased), but as the old saying goes, " if it won't fer bad luck, I'd have no luck at all..."
I appreciate your calm and gentle manner. This sort of thing really drives me nuts.
Dyson Ball Animal 2 Pro what is this ? And how many air watts does it have ? What makes it Pro ?
Just got my vacuum yesterday. Has anyone else found this vacuum to be hard to push on carpeting?
Question about the Dyson animal pro- when do you use the grey infinity button? Do you use that button on hard floors or on carpets?
just ordered one. wonder if it will vacuume up the neighbours kids?
Do you have a small ball vs animal
2 video
Everyone loves Dyson vacuums, but I’m not so impressed anymore...had one for years and finally bought a HEPA canister because of everyone’s allergies. When I tackled the living room Persian carpet, I was really shocked when I filled a bag with sand that the Dyson had left behind. Dyson might be great for normal dirt, but if you have a lot of sand in your area, I would pass for something less showy and more practical.
what's the noise level?
Hello. I just bought the animal pro+ from costco today. A few questions:
1. Is the red power button suppose to light up red when on?
2. The right side ball doesn't turn freely when I spin it but the left side turns freely when I spin it. Is that normal?
3. When I am vacuuming and pull it backwards, it leaves hoizontal brush marks, is that normal?
Thanks!
Costco's version is 2 years warranty.
very useful
Great review, very helpful. I also watched your video on the things you disliked about the Dyson Ball Animal 2.
It was a tough choice between all these vacuums. It's confusing because Dyson just by themselves has multiple "Animal" vacuums, as you show here. Not to mention the fact that "Animal" still doesn't mean it's the best for my pet situation.
Which vacuum would you be most likely to recommend to someone in my situation? (with cat hair, litter, hard floor with budget $400-$1,000)
MY CURRENT EXPERIENCE
I have a cat who makes a huge mess on hard floors and my low budget ($140) Shark vacuum doesn't work AT ALL to pick any of it up. I have been sweeping / vacuuming by hand with the hose for way too long now. The Shark vacuum is always falling over on me, even from 4 feet away, its aggravating.
I Finally pulled the plug and bought one of these "Dyson Ball Animal 2" yesterday, waiting for it in the mail now! I feel like its gonna change my life (seriously)
So, did it?
I just got a good used animal 41 at the thrift store for $20 because it smelled bad. I just had to take it about and clean it out.
I like your reviews. A suggestion though, in reality that pet hair would be worked into the carpet. My cat could definitely prove that point as his hair can stick to anything. As in a lint roller used on a microfiber surface can't remove the hair but a dyson V6 cordless animal or this vac shown here can remove it with one pass. Even when I'm being lazy and technically using the incorrect tool. Same goes for the carpeted stairs or carpeted rooms in my house. Dyson really shines in that aspect on all surfaces. Perhaps grind that dirt and hair into the surfaces to demonstrate? I think the difference between vacuums as well as brands would show more of a variance if the simulation was more realistic. 😉
Thanks Baby Doll. That's a fair point.
Ill choose, door # 1....
Those froot loops are scared and running away from the dyson.
I'm simply impressed that you spelled Froot Loops correctly.,...bravo and LOL !
Absolutely OUTSTANDING review!!! For anyone in the market to purchase one - DYSON OUTLET has an amazing deal at $189+ USD!!! It's more than $140 USD savings and comes with warranty.
Would like your pick of the Shark hv382 or shark 752 and why. thanks
Play it at 1.5 or faster speed to avoid snoozing
Does anyone know how I can prevent the vacuum from sucking up my rug when I use it?
Get rid of the rug u don't need that kind of negativity in you life
@@enoch289 🤣😂
So would you say there are more pros then cons? Im going back and forth between a shark or a dyson.
From my experience, shark vacuums lose power. I wanna get a dyson
I'm on my 3rd shark....they lose power so matter how much you clean everything
I just got my Dyson today
Very thorough
Hello - do you have any review of The Dyson Ball Multi Floor Origin vacuum cleaner (purple head) ?
Hi - No I haven't reviewed that particular upright.
I just bought the Dyson Animal Ball 2 after my first gen died/motor fried. I had my first gen Dyson Animal for about 13 years. By today's standards it had a good life.
I thought about a Riccar but they are way too much money require bags= more money and hassle.
Great reviews Nigel. Is there any difference between the dyson ball multi floor 2 and the Dyson Animal 2 besides the attachments? (The multi floor 2 and the Share NV752 are the same price at Kohls today, which would you get?)
Hi Allan. We don't have the Dyson Ball Multi Floor 2 but we just grabbed a few stats off the Dyson site:
DYSON BALL MULTI FLOOR 2
Weight
15.6 lbs
Suction Power
245AW
Bin Volume
0.42 gallons
Cord Length
31ft
Maximum Reach
40ft
DYSON BALL ANIMAL 2
Weight
17.35 lbs
Suction Power
270AW
Bin Volume
0.55 gallons
Cord Length
35ft
Maximum Reach
50ft
So, besides the tool set, there are at least several other differences between the vacuums. As mentioned we don't have the Multi-Floor so we can't really say whether we prefer it to the NV752, but we can say we really like our NV752.
not the same price as kohls. if u buy shark u could have used the 15% off and free $10 off mail ads kohls gave out which would make shark cheaper. i brought the animal 2 and it is the best vac i ever used. multi 2 is just slight less suck power
is there a belt in the brush roll? hwo do you clean the brush roll? why don't all the vacuums are made tangle free brush roll on the floor not only the hand tools. why do we have to take the screw and clean the brush roll as well as clean the filters constantly.
Yes, all of the full sized ball uprights use belts, but it can be tricky to access. You don't need a screwdriver to access the brush bar, but you will need one if you want to take it off. Only the compact uprights, cordless, and canister use a gear drive system. And also to clarify, a spinning brush bar is able to have better embedded dirt pick up rather than counter rotating heads.
Cleaning the filters help maintain performance, although the vacuum has Radial Root Cyclones that help separate dust. The filters are like double protection.
Why doesn't the rod (soft corrugated tube) slant so it's not at a right angle...kinking at base of machine? I love this machine but....design flaw??
Forget the Animal2 if you have lush carpet, thick pile--it is impossible to easily push and pull. They recommend returning it and getting one with less suction, and that defeats the purpose I think.
Time to get rid of that 1970’s shag carpet? 😂
please review the dyson mulitfloor 2
This and the Multifloor 2 have similar features, so it would not be worth reviewing that one. The review of the Ball Animal 2 is also a fairly good representation of the Ball Multifloor 2.
Love your reviews! I would love to see a review on the dyson v7.
The Dyson does not have the most suction of any vacuum. The animal 2 has a CFM of 53. The Kirby has a suction at the head of 137 CFM. This is because of the large opening from the motor head to the fan. Kirby uses a direct air motor which means there are no filters between the motor and the dirt.
That's how much air it can pull in a minute. As suction goes, the Kirby can pull only about 40 inches of water. Meanwhile, the Ball Animal 2 can pull 90 inches of water, so yes more suction, but not more airflow.
Any problems with squeaky wheels under the cleaner head? Nice video.
Hi Timothy. The underside of the cleaner head has quite a few small wheels. We count 7. None of them squeak on our machine.
I just said “wow” out loud to a vacuum review..what have I become
Glad to hear you like it.
My father is thinking of getting me a Dyson does it pick up pet hair I have 2 pets and vaccum
Yes very well
Thanks I will keep it in mind
I just got this vacuum today and your video helped me a lot. I just have one question, is there an easier way to use the hose/canister? When I try to use it, the suction is so powerful that the hose doesn’t stay stretched. It keeps pulling back and I can’t reach much further. thank you so much
I have the same issue. I don’t know how to make it better I just try and not get too far away.
You cant avoid it. Thats how it is. Either work out more or get a cordless dyson vac
I’ve had the same problem. You have to use two hands and kind of spread the force out by holding the hose closer to the base of the vacuum with one hand and then using your free hand to hold the hose head. Hope this helped
@@TutorialGuy77 yeah because as you stretch it out more, the vac tries to compensate the extra drag by increasing the suction power but it creates more resistance as you stretch the hose out more. But the only way to avoid it is to either get a shark, a cordless dyson with a hepa filter and a motorized mini brush head, or to work out more
How does it handle dog hair and multiple surfaces?
I have thick carpet and two dogs and tile and it does excellent. I came from having top of the line sharks and this has the most suction I have ever used. I cannot believe how good it picks up. It’s unbelievable.
That was the motor exhaust
How do i clean the filters
Lillian Borg Under cold water until the water coming out of them is clear. Do this once a month for both filters.
I just bought this vacuum within two days it was starting to squeak really bad at the ball
My little wheels on the bottom squeak badly. Mines only 3 months old. But the main ball doesn’t squeak. It’s annoying so I took the little wheels off. It’s a little harder to Push but it still works great.
Hi Nigel -- I'd appreciate your experienced recommendation. I can't decide between the Dyson Ball Animal 2 vs the Dyson Cinetic Canister. House is 50/50 carpet/non-carpet. Weighing the motorized brush head of the Animal vs the convenience of the auto cord roll of the canister. Most interested in the best clean though. Thoughts? Much appreciated!
I would get the Dyson Ball Animal. The canister has an air driven brush, which won't do so well with embedded dirt on carpets.
www.amazon.com/Dyson-Ball-Animal-Upright-Vacuum/dp/B01BGS9JVA
Same as the Animal 2. Same suction, dimensions, and cord length. It also doesn't have that part on the cleaner head, which can limit air flow and debris size pickup, so I prefer this slightly over the Animal 2.
The cover of the ball got broken i think the part where there is no filter what do i do can i still use it
We've come to this, Mr. Anderson. These insipid vacuum reviews that I'm now forced to do since you defeated me, Mr. Anderson.
Does the brush bar roller actually rotate under motor control or from moving the unit back and forth? Thanks!
The brushroll in the vacuum cleaner head is motor driven.
@@VacuumAdvisor Thank you!
Very nice and helpful review! It seems sometimes the name of some of the models are different when I have seen them being sold on QVC. Therefore, would you please tell me whether this Dyson vacuum is the same as the Dyson Small Ball Multifloor Upright Vacuum, which is fairly new to presentations on QVC? Thank you for the video.
Hi Christina. This is a different machine from the Dyson Small Ball. The Small Ball is a small, lightweight, compact upright while the Dyson Ball Animal 2 is quite a bit larger and heavier (and more powerful).
just got this for $299.99 with 7% cashback and $105 kohls cash..... doubt theres a better price/deal around !
swiperboy sb damn. That's a great deal. Just bought one for $325 with no cash back and I thought I got a good deal.
Them fruit loops were scared... like me when I saw the price. I'll probably get it anyway.
lol do you like, or dislike the active base plate?? this video, you say you like it. In your dislike video, it is your main gripe!
WHERE
Do u find the vacuum hard 2 push
On low pile carpet it is easy to push. On deep pile carpet and can be tougher. It is similar in this way to the Dyson Ball Multi-Floor 2. You may wish to watch our video on the Dyson Ball Multi-Floor 2 where we try moving it on deep pile carpet: th-cam.com/video/7_YBjEnWS-8/w-d-xo.html
Not at all! You wonder how it is even cleaning because it is so easy to push!
I think that it can handle
cheerios on carpet
W.O.W.
HI- YOU SALE THAT IN RUSSIA
Maybe if my shark that's well over 4 years old ever break I'll try a new dyson. But for now my free dyson I found next to some one trash can will be my back up in case my main vacuum breaks.
For $400, I'd expect a vacuum cleaner made in the USA, not Malaysia. Is this an American company?
Nah. It's located in England.
wow
I hate shark idk why people think they are great
I agree it's overhyped. Their APEX is complete garbage. While the machine weighs less than many other vacuums, most of the weight is on your hands when cleaning, so it feels sort of heavy. The suction on it is mediocre. The machine falls apart like a kinetic sand castle and has no chance of lasting years to come. The machine is only able to pick up 49% of the embedded powder and sand on a non-dense medium pile rug (compared to about 70% of the Dyson Ball Animal 2) and the whole machine overall is just trash. Their Navigator Lift Away (lavender one) is a pretty good vacuum though.
Maybe because of the popular lift away feature
YEAH it's so ridiculous, right? Shark vacs look like junk and are junk. I can understand people who want Miele or Kirby due to the bag filter and reputation. But why buy a Shark? It's cheaper, but at that point we're talking abt a difference of 100 bucks or something.
If the designers can't take time to streamline the external appearance, and make product lines which don't appear to be thinly-veiled knock-offs of Dyson's original idea, why would anyone expect the innards to be any good?
You also get the biggest load of the crap with 13 amp plug on the end
what vacuum do you have now?
As
You didn't run the machine then try to extend the hose. It only extends a FEW FEET then follows you around the house. Have an old Dyson Animal which is still fantastic. This new Dyson Ball Animal 2 is a piece of junk, My wife and I Both hate this thing. Just bought a Shark for the upstairs and this thing is going in the basement. Never ever will I buy another Dyson.
let get ur dyson
You don’t like? Give it to me.😊
The hose is kind of stiff at first, so just really stretch it out good a few times to loosen it up.
SnapHappiness okay I was curious about that
