I recommend reading everything below, including the tools and parts list, and watching this video at least once before you actually start changing your oil.

Perfect i'm all set - just need a bmw e46 m3 now
lol
There is plenty of them on ebay!!! Go buy yourself one of the finest automobiles ever manufactured. You will love the E46 M3.
My buddy has 3 including a laguna seca blue
Man I don't even own an e46 M3 I just love watching people that truly love their cars work on them. Great video man.
The love you have for you car. It's so nice to see a person with so much caring for a BMW.
Misaki Ayuzawa Appreciate the kind words!
If I ever buy a used M3, I hope I get it from a owner like yourself. Great job brother!!
Not going to lie - It's almost soothing to observe the care that you take while working on your M3. And I thought I babied MY beamer!!!! I'm not sold on the idea that that much care will actually improve the longevity or performance of the car in anyway, but it just warms my heart anyway to see it. I'm going to start treating my car better. Thanks!
Thanks for the kind words!
I'm in this business and I'm glad there's people like you, who actually take extra care care of their cars, not people who go 9k miles intervals in their freaking oil changes.
Makes me feel very good when I see someone taking so much care of his car. I dont own a M3 but I watched it for fun, and it was. Wish you a great time with that great machine.
Thanks for the kind words, Emin!
I never realized how noisy the s54 engine was until I recently purchased a 2004 m3. Watching your video and seeing how well you take care of your car, and it sounds just like mine makes me feel a whole lot better!
Wow an oil filter that's even easier to access than the s2000's? Nice
How in the hell can someone give that a thumbs down? That was a great DIY video! You obviously know your stuff and take great pride in your vehicle.
I watched this video in 2015 fantasizing about owning one and now, 5 years later I am the proud owner of an 02 M3. I will be doing the oil change using Castrol 10w60 despite previous owner stating it was recently changed. For peace of mind. Thank you for sharing this!
Sweet, man! Congratulations! Great car, right?
I just bought a 2004 e46 yesterday. After watching this video I will never let anyone other than myself change my oil . Thanks
I'm the typical chick. I hate getting dirty but I love my 330i e46 and I love to save money. I'll be doing my first oil change tomorrow myself. I'll be using your tutorial as a guide because of all I've seen you showed the most love for your M3. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge.
in general, i did never comment videos, but here, i felt me obligated to post a thank you message... I like people who loves their cars, but you, it's over the love... you say everytime, take care, take care, i say to myself, it's a car, you will not hurt it, but after, i am say that if cars live long time, because people like you exist, and when i will buy a M3 (in 2 years) i think i will take care of my car like you...
THANK YOU :)
Awesome tutorial man, i don't even own a BMW lol. But still, great information.
I have E46 M3 first time changing the oil....I will go by your video
I have to hand to this guy, he showed a great tutorial; he was diligent, intricate and caring.
That bolt through the oil filter housing cap is a far superior design than the big plastic cap on the M62TU on my 540i...
Excellent tutorial, thank you very much!!!! You read my thoughts when you said no dealer will ever treat your M3 like you will...so true. And yes, if I'd buy any used car I'd love to buy it from an owner like yourself Sir.
22 and change now. I don't drive that much, but when I do it puts a huge smile on my face.
I didnt realize until the end that this is almost a half hour. Well done!!
Man, you really love your car. All of us should be like you.
I remember watching this as a teenager wishing I could have an E46 M3, now 5 years later I bought my 2nd one!
I would not change the oil myself but you certainly do it in a professional way. Great stuff!
Thank you so much , my dear .... my daughter have to watch over and over so she can learn from you , as well as you , we doubt it , but will try very hard . Cost us so much to bring to BMW , we already bought oil and filter ready at home .
Thanks! It has about 22,000 miles on it. I had the 5E20 fault code pop up for the DSC module this past April and had to get the DSC pressure sensor on the master cylinder replaced.
If I don't drive like a maniac, I can get over 25mpg combined, and if I hyper mile it on a long highway trip I can almost get to 30. Most of the time (spirited) I get right around 20/21 combined. I did two intake mods to increase that gas mileage though - Samco silicon intake boot & aFe ProDry S Air Filter.
Thanks for the time to make this video. I own 2 but my second one is an older model. It's a 2002 325xi for the winter. I bought it used so there is no warranty on that one so I planned on doing the oil change myself. I'm a very attention to detail person as I see u are too. That's important for something u love. My newer BMW sits in the garage and only comes out in the summer lol! Thanks again for the tutorial.
It's nice to see someone work with such detail.
I just finished changing my oil for the first time ever. I feel great and undoubtedly saved money. Very clear and straight forward video. Thank you.
+midget sun That's awesome! Glad to hear 👏🏻
I just did the oil change on my E46 M3. Your video was very helpful. It was a bitch getting the oil drain screw out, due to previous mechanic overtiring it. In the process of trying to remove it, i striped it and i had to use screw extractor to get it out. I used a little bit of W40 with screw extractor and it came out. After that it was smooth sailing.
Thats how you change the oil if you love your car. Great job dude.
This is the most cerefully done thing I have ever seen on youtube. Big thumbs up for that
Buying my first car in a month or so and this was very educational. Great Job. You just gained a new subscriber.
this is the best caring of car i've ever seen i like people that care for their cars everybody should do it
Thanks and great point!
For those reading this, be sure to loosen the oil cap prior to removing the drain plug. Make sure you only loosen the oil cap and not fully remove it or you could wind up allowing contaminants in while draining your oil. Only remove the oil cap prior to adding new oil.
Thanks Sal! It's a blast, man. Instantaneous throttle feedback, 8,000 rpm redline, great looks and a 50/50 weight distribution. Behind the wheel you feel as if one with the E46 M3. I really don't see myself ever selling it.
Thanks, I managed to get a torx 45 in there and get the oil plug out. Followed the rest of the video and now have fresh oil in my M3! Thanks again.
Great DIY for those that have never done it. Great to see the level of care you take of your ///M3
Beautiful M3. Just picked up a Z4M Roadster last weekend. Changing the oil for peace of mind this weekend. Thanks for the video. Pretty similar process to the E46s and E82 I owned.
Excellent video. You are just as meticulous and methodical as me when working on your e46. I love it. I decided to never let another shop do my oil change again after you said "Do you think they will be this cautious". Couldn't agree with you more and several times oil changes performed at shops have not met my expectations. Most shops I have talked to don't know how to properly perform this procedure on e46's, and it's an oil change.
If your car has coilovers and any drop, those ramps would tear your front end off. *Crying my eyes out*.
Note: owl hooting its approval of your technique in the background was a nice touch.
FYI just drive on to a 2x4 first. Works for me.
Thanks for posting this. I'm about to do my first oil change in my M3.
Wow! You're a very pedantic man, I can see how much you care and love your BMW and give you big RESPECT!
Really great video bro! Definitely appreciate your thoroughness and providing info and links to your parts needed to do the change! 👍
Thats really a true way to love your car, congratulations. One thing, oil will drain more easely and completely if fill cap is loosen/removed before draining. This will eliminate air bubbles/vacuum in the oil passages and crankcase created by the out coming fluid.
I'm pretty sure that with such level of care you do have with your S54, it will last forever.
maintenance is the secret to longevity. you are expertly meticulous. very well done video, dude. 44k mi on my 2002 M3. I track mine and it's a dream to drive.
Awesome video bro! Just did my very first oil change on my e46 M3. Saved me hundreds!
Absolutely! It's a blast to drive. Makes driving to work something you look forward to.
I can tell that you take extra good car of your cars. That "spirited drive" was well deserved
I just kept watching because it was such an engaging video, I don't even have a car!
Thanks man!
I have 23,000 miles on mine, so I really don't have any first hand knowledge regarding high mileage reliability. I'd personally recommend saving up a bit more and getting one around 50K miles. At close to 100k miles you could be throwing a lot of maintenance money into it. Also, I'd suggest an unmolested example.
please do more e46 m3 tutorials, your's are the best I have ever seen :DDD
I don't own a e46 and I. Watching this...but I was lucky to drive my dads neighbors m3, the first car to give me butterflies and a cargasm ...BMW E46 M3 best car ever!
wow great video.. Thanks man, I'm very ocd with my S54 as well. At dealership for underbody hardware yesterday. oil change rate was $274.99. Calls for Shell 10/60 now. They must HATE DIY vids like this. Dolla dolla bills y'all.
NO Dealer will love your car the way YOU do !!
I have an old 95 E36. I use Casterol 20 50. I use it all year round and have used it on my last BMW and the one I have now for 6 years. The last owner used it as well. the car has 170+ miles on it and runs great!
Man I like the way u do business!!! I never thought I'd see someone take care of a car and its maintenance the way I do until I watched this video! I'm ashamed to say it but u might have been even a little more thorough than myself! Absolute best DIY on an oil change I've ever seen and I'll make sure to keep note when I do mine this friday!!
Thanks for the kind words
good job man, you treat your M3 the way it should be treated!
Thanks for thorough video. I always try to over research even the most basic DIY.
I love your attention to detail! Top work!
I don't even own this car, but great video.
you definitely treat your car well.
Can't wait till I get one....keep up the good videos ...more please
I think he loves those paper towels almost as much as the car :) good video. Got a thumbs up.
the beauty of taking care of a legend
Awesome tutorial, I followed everything you did with no problems. Thanks man!
+JuLew3105 Thanks!
That's what's up bro.
Thanks to you.
You just saved me thousands of dollars from the BMW shop ;)
Great video! Meticulous procedure dude, gj!
Your video is just perfect, and i can see you love your car. Added to my favourites right now ;)
Nice detailed video. I am now confident in doing it myself. Thanks
I am sure I will never conduct a DIY on my ///M but I just wanted say "well done" on this outstanding/informative video.
-Scouts Out-
This man loves his car... :)
Thanks man! Turner does 10% discounts every now and then - usually in the summer. To me, the most important part of this DIY is knowing the job was done correctly. I usually purchase enough from Turner for 2 oil changes. That helps a little to reduce the overall cost of shipping.
Nice pointers in this. Good vid on what some people take for granted as an easy task.
Thank you for the time and effort you took to make this video, it sure is useful.
Thanks for this video buddy ... i used this to change the oil on the M3. Thumbs up from the UK :)
+light459 You're welcome and glad to hear. Cheers!
Thanks for the video. Very through and helpful
I do this the same way,am very particular that a job is done well, not just cars but if your going to do a job do it well.
Reminds me of the first thing I was every told as a trainee mechanic,if a job looks like its been done well it probably has,not always but 99 percent of the time.
OMG, look at that i6 tho. Best engine ever made
Helpful video! thank you.
Thank you and yes your right...maintenance people are not gonna put that kind of care and detail into the service you paid for...ive watched them and it was nothing like this.
Respect goes to you man.
Thanks for the helpful, detailed vid
Thank you! Gonna try this myself!
very good, well explained.
very good, well explained. good job bro... i will share this in the fourms...
Great video, I dont have an M3 but picked up some tips!

Great video man and awesome car! You really know how to take care of your car.
BMW made it so easy to change an oil filter great job for that. I have a Toyota and its a pain to change that filter. Thanks for the video great car.
Super easy to understand, thank you for the video!
