If it has the microgrove barrel you can have it ,I like them with the standard rifling.

I have one I bought in 1980 brand new. I was 13 when i got it. It was not a smooth or easy rifle to shoot. My brother bought the same rifle the same day and store as me. His was excellent. Mine had a floppy trigger almost immediately, action was not very smooth. it got worse the more I shot it. From 1980-92 it had less than 3 boxes of shells through it. I parked it in my parents gun safe from 1992-2021. My adopted son worked on it and found some factory problems and fixed them. It's super smooth now and is the rifle it should have been, We think a new employee was assembling it. I was told it wasn't broken in, It was so bad I hated shooting it.
I don't have pleasant memories of shooting it, i like it now and, even though it works well now, I do have to carry a special screwdriver just in case the action screw backs off (Load gate was messed up and installed anyway and action screw wouldn't keep it tight FROM the factory)
If this world keeps going sideways i will grab my Smith and Wesson WAY before I would grab the Marlin.
At the range, I joke to my shooting buddies...."This thing sucked for so many years I am shocked when it fires without delay and has smooth action" I still can't get over that it works very well now

That’s unfortunate. I guess you find that with every mass produced item though. Glad it works generally good for you now at least.

@@srballistics7176 Part of the load get was bent on assembly inside, the action screw attaches to it. The action screw is tight, but the bent piece inside made it hard to load and not cycle after 3 or 4 rounds. My son tweaked the inner piece and straightened it so now it functions as it should. It looks like a brand new rifle too. I have put 300 rounds through it this last year after it was fixed. from 1980-1992 maybe 47-52 round TOTAL not quite 3 boxes.
I told him when he was working on it, I am not spending anything on it because i have no good memories of it....But I do like it now

I have one also with the JM stamp. It shoots waaay to high with irons and the rear sight all the way down. Where did you get the high sights. Please help sir. I need them. I current have a red dot on it but I need irons for reliability.

      Marlin Year of Manufacture
Marlin year of manufacture maybe determined from the following list of letter/numeral prefixs to the serial number; this coding only applies to serialized rifles:
      1946-C
      1947-D
      1948-E
      1949-F
      1950-G
      1951-H
      1952-J
      1953-K
      1954-L
      1955-M
      1956-N
      1957-P
      1958-R
      1959-S
      1960 (August)-1961-U
      1961 (August)-1962-V
      1963-W
      1964-Y,-Z
      1965-AA
      1966-AB
      1967-AC
      1968-AD, -68
      1969-69
      1970-70
      1971-71
      1972-72
Starting in 1973, the year of manufacture maybe determined by subtracting the first two digits of the serial number from 100:
      Example: SN 2512345 would have been made in 1975 [100 - 25 = 75] and SN 94365295 would have been made in 2006 [ 100 - 94 = 06 (2006) ].

@@srballistics7176 according to this mine is a 74 but it doesn't look like the 74 Texan I looked up. It looks more like the 336ER and 336ES, but the the lower barrel on these are shorter than the top barrel whereas mine are both the same length. Also the sights look different.

@@srballistics7176 it does. The sights look different and it doesn't have the strap mount on the tubular magazine. Doesn't have the JM stamp either. But probably slight changes from manufacturer or changes done by change of hands. Thanks! I guess it's a 74.

@@bubbalo3388 interesting, I know the sights are able to be changed and there were a couple different sights from the factory. I’m not sure on the other differences, most of my knowledge for lever guns is on Winchester.
