Congrats to Larry for landing a whale of an Interview and conducting it quite well AND for the whales' immense generosity and loyalty to the sailing community. Truly the spirit of, and tribute to, the cooperation of both the Digital Nomad and Sailing Communities. Thank You.
Watched the 80 north series when it first came out, one word to describe it, Awesome! I'd imagine any extreme sailing adventures like the northwest passage would be better after Sierra has 3,4, maybe 5 more birthdays. Old enough to realize that it's something really special.... She already gets to see such beautiful and exotic places, a trip like that I'd want her old enough so it really sticks with her. I can't wait to see her experiences in the South Pacific...
If I may suggest a possible source of ideas for Brian, there is TH-cam channel called "Ran Sailing". They are a Swedish couple with a young daughter who are now in the process of designing and building their second boat, a 50-foot sloop, essentially by themselves while working with a naval architect on the design.
I really enjoyed this interview! Lots of topics covered. The 80 North documentary is beyond impressive! I've watched it 4 times! BTW - Larry, your lips were out of sync but it was okay. You were still easy to understand. : - )
I’m glad you enjoyed it! The 80 north documentary was EVEN BETTER the second time I watched with ~50 other sailors outsides under the stars at our club. Yeah my lips were out of sync in the original zoom recording. I tried to fix in Final Cut Pro but it was beyond my ability in the time I had to spend. If I had to do it again, I would have asked Brian to record it with a separate camera and audio and synced it in post with the better audio & video I recorded outside of zoom on my end. Lessons to learn if I have a podcasting career in the future. 😂 Thanks for watching and commenting!
Larry Salibra, please listen to yourself speak. Remove "like" from your vocabulary. If you insist, try words to use in place of like such as enjoy, love, relish, fancy, adore, savor, appreciate, admire. Doing this will raise your IQ exponentially. Stop talking over your guest. Very rude and offending. Poor Bryan tried to reply when you would shut up.
wow, i've been subscribed to delos for a long time. i started saving for a boat 9 years ago, it's been a long hard dusty road and i've only barely got half.... Only now am i realizing that i'll be too old in ten more years. I mean just now.... Maybe i'll get a bike and explore America
I'm always impressed by the mavic drones flying so high and around your boat. I am always scared to fly my mavic in wind conditions. Are y'all worried about losing it in wind or did you just learn to get over it?
I don’t have a drone but I get very nervous when people fly drones close to boats I’m in charge of. Worry they’ll hit the rigging and it will get tangled or crash into someone on the deck. Plus I find it just generally a rude invasion of other people’s privacy. (It’s also illegal to fly a drone within a certain distance of a vessel in Hong Kong!) If it’s your own boat and drone by all means fly away!
@@LarrySalibra I don't fly a drone around anyone because I think its an invasion of privacy. I was just commenting on the portion where yall talked about all their gear. The shots they get are impressive. Im to scared to lose my drone in that wind. That's all
@@LarrySalibra Yes, it was interesting to see his thoughts on the newer Amels. Certainly, I can see that for Amel, Brian is not the typical customer - despite the fact that the designers and builders must love far he takes the Amel. Like a Porsche, they were meant to be driven. Now, just to mention a few folks taking things into their own hands - to design a boat that meets their (world cruising) needs - Dan and Kika of Sailing Uma (just in the requirements stage now, they have a very detailed episode and questionnaire on boat design), John Harries of Morgans Cloud (pretty far along, with detailed design out to a builder), and then the amazing Johan and Malin of RAN sailing, who worked with a designer and is now building a 50' custom sailboat by themselves! Finally, there is Juho of Alluring Arctic who bought a neglected Garcia (aluminum) and did after a refit, is now sailing it to Alaska. Anyway, thanks for the interview and interesting questions from the RHKYC. If you haven't read it, James Clavell's "Tai-Pan", about traders in Hong Kong, is a wonderful read.
The difference between cruising sailors that have never raced and racing sailors is racing sailors know how to sail. Watching the large number of sailing channels on you tube is proof how many of them don't have a clew.......
Very interesting overall, but geez it would have been a much better interview if the interviewer 1) had his questions prepared and 2) stopped speaking over Brian while he was trying to respond...
If I was the sailor like Brian Troutman, I would never want to go up into the Arctic. Too freaking cold! I love the warm weather and that’s where I would hang. That’s me though…
Great interview, but for goodness sakes, enough with the "like, like, like, like!" You youngens today have so much trouble speaking without filling in the gaps with irrelevant words, which are very annoying to older listeners.
I have been following Brian and the Delos crew from the start. He feels like a brother to me. Good to see him on your interview. Thank you.

Thank you for the kind words Dave. Glad you enjoyed it!
I've lived vicariously through Brian Trautman, his family, and crew for many years. Mad respect for this man!
Good interview.
Lots of specific answers.
Thank you.

Groovy interview. SV Delos rocks.
Alluring Arctic and Hakluyt are captivating arctic sailing channels..☝️❤️🌍🙏
Can’t wait for new season to start !! Blu and Brady Buddy boating with Delos is going to be great!!
Fair winds ⛵️
It was great for the few days they spent together. They have already parted ways on their separate paths. ⛵️⛵️
Calm down, I have never heard the word "like" said so many times in less than an hour. Other than that, I think it was a very good interview.
Hahaha like I didn't even notice it till like you said something about it....
That's the way young people speak now. Annoying.
That comment was 'like' just what I was going to say. How many 'Likes' are there? Be sure to 'like' like this comment.
Ha! Thank you for the feedback. I like totally agree! 😅

As a Delos fan, this was great. 🙂
Good stuff. Thanks.

Great interview, very informative!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Can’t wait to see more of the pacific islands. Hopefully more diving from Delos.

Brian, do you use he Lithium batteries for engine starting?
Omg I felt the ATM/banking/SIM card pain! Canadian here, just got back from backpacking Vietnam and had so many issues with all of the above 😅

Build-a-boat would be rad!
Brian should start his own line of blue water cruising / expedition yachts!

I wonder if amel was still alive the newer boats would have a different vibe . I like the old tile in the kitchen .

Brian did a very nice job on this very clumsily handled interview.. practice will help.. maybe..lol

So what!!
And some racing sailors don't know how to anchor.
It’s how they chose to learn !!
Is that a challenge
