  • This is the song Maybe Now sung by Lesley Gore from the second season episode of the Batman 1966 TV series Scat! Darn Catwoman. For some reason the song has been cut from more recent broadcasts of this episode.

"Maybe Now" was a song written by Lesley with her brother, Michael Gore. It was released as the b-side to the 1966 single, "Treat Me Like a Lady" and was included on the "California Nights" lp.

It's been restored to the DVD collection that came out last year. This was probably cut either for running time, so they could put more commercials in, or for problems with music rights, or both.

I agree. I know there are rights issues to work out between the various entites involved, but I can't believe it's taken this long. What someone should really do is get each party (20th Century-Fox, Warner Bros., Bill Dozier's estate, etc.) or a rep for each party into a conference room, sit them down, have them write down on paper what they each expect to be paid (for each DVD sold), discuss it and seriously work this thing out. This is one of the most popular '60s shows. Release it already!

I've watched that episode and don't remember that song. You're right! I saw on an old talk show broadcast that originally the script called for them to kiss, but it was deemed wrong for Robin's character and the script was changed. That might be why, though I would have to buy the boxed set to see the episode in its entirety.

Lesley was great as Pussycat, should of kept her in the whole series, her performance was perr - fect. Catwoman said you can't be a criminal and a singer at the same time, Lesley said do I have a choose, Catwoman said no your too short, ha! ha!😂😂. Great kiss seen with Robin, she's, not that kind of girl on the 1st crime. Still loved by many, we'll miss you.

One of the best scenes from the episode and the series IMO. Thanks to ol' TH-cam we have it here, otherwise we'd never see it again. I thought the whole Watchmen film rights with Fox and Warners were to pave the way for an official DVD release of the series. Guess I was wrong???

I've often read that back then Burt Ward was the married responsible one and Adam West was the whore. Saw a special several years ago where the two of them were interviewed. Burt remarked that sometimes on set he'd be out for a stroll ( at the studio ) and would turn a semi-dark corner and " there would be some young woman on her knees servicing Adam".

The thing that really boggles my mind is how they were able to release the movie but they can't release the episodes. The rights for the movie were apparently negotiated differently than the series. You'd think that as popular as Batman was (and still is) that they would have worked something out back then.
I'm a huge fan of The Man From U.N.C.L.E., which was another show bogged down for years in rights issues, but was finally released on DVD. Let's hope the same for the Caped Crusaders!!

What I read is that the show's producers made Burt Ward wear a jockstrap, for the reason you mentioned.
The primary audience for "Batman," no matter how much we may joke about the show now, was kids--specifically, young boys.
But, before the "Batman" producers made him "cover up," I'll bet some of those young boys (the ones approaching or in the midst of puberty) watching "Batman" every week liked that package they saw bulging through Burt Ward's tights.

@discomusic1966 After all, there are many TV series' a lot less popular, with greater inventories of episodes that have been available on home video (DVD and/or VHS formats) in a shorter span of time from the end of their original broadcast runs, than "Batman."
To paraphrase the title of another TV series that was a prime-time peer of "Batman," about the release of the adventures of "The Dynamic Duo" on home video, if & when such occurs, it may be said "It's About Time!"

In fact, at least two of the biggest girl pop/rock & roll singers of the 1960s were rug-munchers. One you have correctly identified as Lesley Gore, and the other one is/was a Brit. Can you (or anyone else out there) guess her name?
I'll give you a clue. This female Brit singer wasn't the one who had a hit with "Downtown," "You're My World," nor of "To Sir with Love."
