    • @TT1012U
      @TT1012U 4 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Dario36515 problem with that is that will never change. It will all come down to supply and demand. It’s temporarily a tenants market. Landlords are thirty for tenants and lots of tenants are scrambling to find or maintain employment. Some landlords are increasing rents just to cover the possibility of not being able to raise rents for 5 years. Just no winners in this equation. That landlords should have kept that tenant just to have the income and then be able to market any rent he wants in two years when the economy sees a fraction of some sort of stability.

      *N Why* you need to learn to withhold judgment unless you have all the facts. First of all, why didn't the media reach out to the landlord for their side of the story? That's pretty shady to me. Second, most teachers whom I know have either switched their courses to online format or they are being paid for sitting at home while their schools are closed. Notice how this news story does not even address this issue and the woman doesn't mention it during her interview.

    • @sean2015
      @sean2015 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @Truthfears Guilty no actually you don't know what you're talking about. Many landlords are average schmucks like you and I who live month to month just to pay their bills. My mother was a landlord and tenants took advantage of her by moving in with boyfriends/girlfriends or other family members and causing her water bill to skyrocket. When tenants paid their rent late or missed payments altogether, she would miss her mortgage and the bank in turn would hit her with late penalties.

    • @sean2015
      @sean2015 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Truthfears Guilty now you're talking in circles because first you said all landlords are greedy but now you're backpedaling and saying it's the banks. To answer your question, you do know (don't you? I hope you do!) that most people _finance_ their homes rather than buying them. In fact most people (close to 90 percent) don't even pay cash for their CARS! So why would you expect someone to pay cash for a house, which is usually much more expensive than a car. As far as why people borrow money to buy a home (as opposed to renting, like I do) they do it for one of several main reasons: 1) they view it as an investment. Unlike most assets, real estate tends to appreciate rather than _depreciate_ in value. In some cases it can grow in value quite substantially. 2) People like the idea of owning a home because it gives them a certain amount of "freedom" -- freedom to make additions or modifications as they see fit (e.g. a landlord won't allow his/her tenant to add a new bathtub or redo a kitchen, but if you own the house then you can do whatever you want with it and this can increase your home's value). 3) Buying a home can also qualify you for certain tax breaks.

      @M Detlef where in the video does it say the woman is unemployed? Because I strongly suspect she's not. She's a teacher isn't she? All of the teachers in Chicago (where I live) are getting their full salaries ($55K and up) to sit at home. So either she's getting her full salary while she's furloughed or some or all of her classes have migrated to an online format. In fact if she's willing to whine about her rent increase then chances are she would whine if she had no income.

      Ill be devils advocate here because it sucks for everyone right now. We dont know the landlords situation. It could be that they needed to raise the rent because of other issues. They might have gotten laid off or or furloughed and the only thing that is keeping them afloat and paying the houses are renters. So they have to increase rent to pay the house and other utilities. They might also be taking care of relatives who lost their homes during this crisis and needs the extra income to support them. We also don't know if the teacher is problem tenant. Such as making complaints to neighbors with landlord about small issues. To be honest the best way to get rid of a problem tenant is to raise the rent so either a the tenant pays more making it easier to deal with the tenant or B having the tenant leave voluntarily because they don't want to pay the higher rent

The real culprit was the taxes more than tripling in about 8 years and my mom was only raising the rent like $10 every other year. When I came on the scene, the rent needed to be raised like $250 pronto just to continue to keep covering expenses, let alone any profit. We really like the tenant, and have been only proceeding with a $50/yr increase until we get the discrepency dealt with. But ultimately the tenant is getting a gift right now. Screw the taxes.

    The fact rent was under $1000 to begin with is impressive. I don't think its unreasonable to ask a little more for a property like that.

    NO SYMPATHY. That's a BIG ROOMY HOUSE with yard and everything...rent suppose to be at least $1500. Yep, he WILL FIND someone to rent it....his asking price is ONLY around $1100.... not bad in my opinion... I have seen worse.... BESIDES, SHE'S A TEACHER DON'T THEY HAVE UNIONS AND MAKE DAMN GOOD MONEY?

    Ultimately it's a decision on the Landlord. Factors to consider: If she's a good tenant, if the current rent is above or below market, future plans for that home. If LL raises it too much they risk losing that tenant. If they don't they risk losing that income. Stating the obvious, teacher of the year award is not related to the rent she is paying, or that she's a single mother, or how many kids she has.

    I left the rental industry I worked in it for nearly 30 years, its not right how these landlords treat tenants, theres fees for every aspect of a rental its common for half the deposit to kept for cleaning fees they are nothing but crooks, they brought this them selves greed caught up to them

    $875 a month for a house is a freaking awesome deal! To all the naysayers claiming the landlord is greedy, are just ignorant! Landlords have bills to pay too!🙄

    $875 to rent a house , I’ll take it 😩 I pay 1400 for a 1 bedroom 🤦🏻‍♀️ The landlord was being selfish though, especially during a pandemic! She was a nice lady too. What a poor decision on his part.

      Imagine for a minute paying teachers a wage that would allow them to buy a house in the community they serve instead of renting.

    • @The1707regina
      @The1707regina 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Who fault is that if your child didn’t learn anything? Your the parent, you teach them. Kids were supposed to have homework online while staying home. If you let your kid be lazy the whole time then thats your fault. Open up a book and teach your own kid instead of taking this pandemic as a vacation. Make time for your kid to help teach them. Take time off of work to teach your child and be resourceful for your child. Not the teachers fault. Stop blaming the school system for your failure and child’s failure. If your kid isn’t getting the material being taught, purchase books and learning materials so that your kid can get it. There are learning resources out there available .

    Teachers are the MOST essential workers of all... when teachers have rent problems then we know how fucked up our country is...teachers should be paid the same as doctors...without teachers, there won't be doctors and any other professionals.......its so sad how little value we put on the teaching profession

      I do not think they are living with her. Based on what I saw in the video, she lives alone. They can do whatever they want if they are adults who are living somewhere else.. She has 2 jobs. She should have the money to rent another home with no issues.

    well I just got my property tax reappraisal in the mail form the county tax collector and it went up over $30,000 in value, which means that my property tax will be going up. I just read where home sales were down and home values were going down because of it. Looks like tax collectors use a better chart.

    This is only one side of the story. My neighbor had a rent increase because she calls in maintenance calls multiple times per month and is a pain in the butt to the landlord. I am so glad she Is moving. I renewed my lease during the pandemic and didn’t get a rent increase because I never bother them.
