Do you have suggestions for lay practitioners regarding their mindfulness practice during work and other activities like cooking or cleaning? Should I try to cultivate Metta and keep my attention on it even during work? As I have to be concentrated and creative in my work I am not sure I can effectively keep mind's attention on Metta. So far I did not have much success trying to do that. I normally focus on just being mindful for the arising of hindrances and then relaxing and smiling and returning to my work. During simpler activities like cleaning or cooking it makes sense to me to keep the metta practice going there but I still have difficulties to cultivate Metta effectively when I am doing such activities. It works a lot better when I am outside walking and especially in nature or around other people and animals who I can include in my metta practice.

You are doing it right. Smile and radiate when doing easy tasks and watch for hindrances. Otherwise focus on what you are doing. Its good to sit in the morning and then the rest of the day the mind is much calmer and more focused naturally.

@@davidjohnson8218 Thanks for the quick response David! Do you have any general recommendations regarding quantity of sits per day and length of individual sits? For example, would it be better to just sit 1 hour in the morning or half an hour in the morning and another half hour in the afternoon/evening? At the moment I sometimes enter the first or second jhana and at other times I don't enter the jhanas at all. My practice is not stable yet. Most of the time I sit for about 15-30 minutes and sometimes 30-50 minutes. I am currently considering to raise the sitting duration per day to 1 hour.

@@YannickHeym I think for serious beginners at least 30min in the morning and another 30min sitting later in the day is very helpful. The 2nd sitting can be quite good. As you get into Jhanas you will want to extend that sitting to an hour. It sounds like you are figuring it out. There is no set system.

Out of all AGHORI practises Buddha practised only fasting and breath holding according to suttas. He did not practice drinking alcohol or sex with corpses. Just for info. No offence. The speech by Delson is very inspiring otherwise.❤
