Here in Finland we have the tragedy called Manga Raamattu ("the Manga Bible"). Every godparent bought a copy of it to their godchild, and every comic book section of every flea market is now full of them. The sales numbers don't always tell you if the target audience loved the book.

  • @nemock

Something that truly drives me nuts about the narrative from these guys is that God is not responsible for anything bad happening, even though the words attributed directly to God in the book of Job state very clearly that he is responsible for every single event that occurs in the universe. It couldn’t be any more explicit than that. It’s literally him talking to Job saying that.

This is really fascinating, it's like a YEC wrote a fanfic about what it would be like if they were actually correct. Honestly from just a fiction standpoint, it could be a fun setting for a fantasy time-traveling series to do a "What if YEC was correct" but explore all of the problems and implications that they'd encounter.

    • @exhumus

They didn't establish which version of time-travel exists in this universe. It appears the kids THINK this is a world with a cyclical timeline, which means that these time periods exist 'parallel', time travel only possible between equivalent moments.
Pretend time is a spiral and you can only travel vertically, not laterally. If you spend two hours in the past, the point you can connect to in your own time period is also two hours advanced from when you left it.
Of course, they assume this without even trying to test it, which illustrates the author's idea of science pretty well.

@@9Johnny8 Even if this parallel is the way the time traveling works can't they just beam themselves back to the past, from the failed present, to send a message like dont do __ thing to fix the present they are on, or does that create another splitting timeline? do they go back to the original? with that info how do we now know that the present we are in is the right present, what if the flood didn't happen, is that another timeline now?

    • @9Johnny8
      @9Johnny8 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Sex is meant to be within a marriage between adults.
Children are seen as a blessing and a gift from God and not to be abused but to be loved and cared for. I'm sorry that you have such a weird view of the Bible but it never says that abusing children in that way is justified.
If you want a religion that does that, then look to Islam because their "prophet" raped and beat a 9 year old girl when he was in his 50s. Muslims will put themselves through all kinds of hoops to justify their pedophile prophet.

If they'd established the rules of time travel in this universe it could still be urgent.
In a world with a cyclical timeline you can connect only to a moment in a given time period that corresponds to your departure time.
Think of the timeline as a slowly rotating slinky stood upright, where you can only go up or down. If you spend some time on the upper coil, all lower coils are rotating with you, 'time passing' in the period your buddy is stuck in.
But Jaxon and Izzy not even THINKING about experimenting to find out whether this is the case or not illustrates the creationists' idea of science pretty well.

So how far forward or backward would you have to go before some teenager would notice the stars were different? My guess is a very long time because most teenagers aren't that interested in stellar constellations. They look up they see some stars. They go back in time a million years, they see some stars. None of them would be like "Oh Ursa Major isn't supposed to be there, it must be God".

I hope that you have decided to pre-read them. Making summaries is going to be difficult if you don't know what's going too happen, and without summaries, this is going to be a really long series. I really enjoyed this episode, but I don't think I could stay interested for long enough to read each book unabridged. I mean, if this was an audiobook, I would probably have sent it back by now.

I remember when he used to harass women in the Magic the Gathering community and all he did was stir drama every way he could.
His popularity nowadays makes me laugh, but also makes me concerned about the state of public discourse over media online.
Big corporations LOVE those guys since they add nothing of value to the conversation and just end up galvanising defence of their garbage shows and movies with no effort on their part. So people that also think those shows/movies are garbage don't say it by fear of being associated with those lunatics.

Well, even though I am a cranky old White guy, my Dad was in the USAF and I was born in the Philippines. I was raised there, in Japan, and on Okinawa while it was still an American Territory. I grew up with Manga, and I still love them as they still have much better stories than American comic books do. I just can't get over your saying there is actually just one page of that art per chapter. I just think they could find affordable Manga artists in a place just as insane as their own ideas. North Korea.

I think it's a neat work of fiction. The story is pretty simple, and it fits in nicely on the teen reading scene. The only issue is that the writers don't realize that it's fiction, and thus, the dialog is a bit goofy.

Maybe a tangent, but your opening bit reminds me of why "Miami Connection" is one of my favorite movies. It's so awful, so amateurishly done, so cheesy, but it's so EARNEST. They wanted to make a good movie. Everyone involved was trying, without cynicism, without irony, just doing their best to make a martial arts flick. It fails along every possible metric, but it's SO watchable, because of that earnestness. I absolutely adore it. Contrast with more recent films that tried to be "so bad it's good," like Velocipastor or anything Tommy Wiseau did post-The Room, and you can see how important earnestness actually is.

I'm really curious about it and how our diets have evolved to now, and how horrible our current diet is for us. Which other ones eat meat and how often? I respect that they're sticking with the "clock in the present continues to tick" aspect from the Excellent Adventure film. Without this, there's no urgency; you could just go to any other arbitrary point in time. You could even go back to one hour before the present and sabotage the time machine to prevent the whole adventure.
