    Now that i see this Modular. Why did lego never think about doing musical things? Would be a lot of fun building these things. Putting different things together as you do in lego. Imagine the possibilities :D

    It's like Ikea. They know that their consumers actually have more satisfaction in their products having had to put it together themselves. You take more pride in a job well done and enjoy (insert widget) more.

      I initially thought the same thing hah. I was like "this looks like something Ikea would sell." I guess I prefer to buy fully built instruments that were put together by someone smarter than me, unless of course it was like 200-300 bucks..not 600.

    Great video and it's the first time I've heard a thing remotely tuneful come out of one of these. However, I am still at a loss as to see how you would use it to make music. They just seem to generate sounds. Is the idea to use it to create samples that can then be tuned and played via a keyboard, for example?

    • @twelveeighteen1392
      @twelveeighteen1392 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's a synthesizer. What you heard at the end of the video IS music. However, if your idea of music involves a composition of other elements like percussion, then all it would require is a clock sync to other gear using cv.

    Interesting product. It has no side panels to hold the structural elements in place more solidly? It looks like it's relying on soft bent metal to stay upright. But even if the TEPOM-400's stand might not be very solid, the video sure is. Your skills as a videographer really shine here.

    It will be interesting to hear your "final" thoughts about it. I got one and sold it 4 days latter. These knobs are not only tiny and coarse that hurt your fingers within 5 minutes. The travel they have is dreadfull and each one will respond differntly , some will turn easily some you need pliers to turn. After a while you just cant be bothered. The sequencer knobs , you can hardly put your fingers between them , there is no space.The whole built is not solid and its beyond me why they went for a DIY thing. Then, betteries??????. I can tell you you will defenetly wont t be taking it to the park and have fun. 8 batteries that last about 4 hours. Adaptor is not easy to find and should have been included. I will only say this. If you could see it and fiddle with it in a shop and liked it, fine. But spending that amount of money just by looking at it.....no. And honestly, yes, you need gloves to turn the knobs.

      As I hear more people talk about this thing I get more and more disappointed... It looks like a good value for all the modules you get, but if the quality is really that bad then i too will have to pass...
      Half of the experience of using a synth is how good the interface to the sound is, an example of that is the Korg Volca FM, it has so much power but all the interface is hidden behind a stupid digital screen and hundreds of hard to understand parameters in a list that it's impossible to have any fun with... It seems that this kinda has a similar issue, if it's hard to turn the knobs and have barely any travel then it will make it no fun to use regardless of how powerful the hardware itself is.

    so does it have midi or anything? its such a shame imo they didn't make this product more accessible because as it stands you really can't do much with it outside of its self contained unit

    • @RickyTinez
      @RickyTinez  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It doesn't :/ and its a bummer tbh. The sequencer isn't quantized either, and it only shoots out 1/16th gates. You'd need like a midi to CV converter or a sequencer with CV output like a pyramid or mono station

      you definitely have to work it.Take use of the lowpass, the most frustrating thing about it is you have don't have quantized sequencer. So if you're trying to do simple sequences its practically impossible. I was utilizing the LFO because it moves slower than the sequencer.

      Moist Peanut, name me one thing that isn't a gimmick? Pretty much everything is a gimmick, so who cares? I think Enrique made some beautiful sounds, and I'm sure others will have fun doing the same, and that's what it's all about 😁

    • @moistpeanut5986

      @@kevinshoban3158 oh I loved what Enrique did with it. But in my opinion for the price and what the product offers, its a gimmick because TE is selling on the looks and "diy" thing more than the musical function of it. However if it was priced better, then I would reconsider, but at the current price there are better things you can get.
      Also, I imagine the po400 will be a pain for resale if you decide its not your thing.

    • @RickyTinez
      @RickyTinez  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i agree and disagree with this statement lol, its suuuuper cheap compared to making your own modular with the same capabilities. BUT if you were to make a modular with the same modules (not TE ones) you'd have a lot more of a flexible modular system! The looks and the DIY thing are definitely on the forefront of the product.
      And tbh, you could get something like a minilogue XD which has 3 osc's (one wavetable), FX, a keyboard, a way easier sequencer, TONS of midi options, recordable automation, presets, and a cool little screen for about $100 more than this... sooo ionno, it's in a weird grey area for me.

    • @rhythmdroid
      @rhythmdroid 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why is it a gimmick? The Roland MC-505 was considered a gimmick by many but in the right hands, you could make some serious music on it. When it comes to tools for creativity, sometimes how it "feels" matters.

    • @moistpeanut5986
      @moistpeanut5986 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Enrique Martinez Music i think its great for learning on it. In a near future id buy this for music students to play around on. However, TE’s aggressive pricing is a let down for it to be considered for beginners, specially when you have other modular and semi-modular options being released at a fraction of the po400 cost. TE is a design company, their intro to music gear was great with the OP-1 but its always been about the design and looks first and the music features second.
      Not saying TE stuff is bad but i do think a lot of their stuff is overrated by many because they have fanboys.
