    If you're going to use those cool looking solid 3.5mm dual plugs for extended periods of time, I'd recommend inventing something to stabilize the bodies of the Pocket Operators themselves so they can't move around so much. Otherwise the small mechanical stresses imparted through the chain as you "operate" each PO are really going to weaken the solder joints in the jacks and eventually crack them.

    • @FreeBeat
      @FreeBeat  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I haven't noticed them putting any stress on the pocket operators because I use the stands, but I'd imagine you're right. Thanks for the advice!

    • @SyncdAlien
      @SyncdAlien 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@FreeBeat That is exactly my concern: the small amount of frequent small movement that you don't notice. The solder joints are tiny and are easily stressed. Those dual head 3.5mm plugs are really great for getting each PO as close together as possible. I think your rig will have the greatest longevity if you can invent some sort of base that holds each PO body firmly in place. Do you have any creative ideas? All I can think of is foam core board with cut-outs to fit each PO. The 3D printer people would probably custom make a base that would also act as a carrying case, but I have no access to that stuff so I'm just guessing.

      Yeah I have to agree with this as well, I came here to find out why my pocket operators don't sync anymore. Turns out using these small 3.5 connectors has pretty much destroyed my ports and they can no longer sync any more :(

    • @stabngab
      @stabngab ปีที่แล้ว +1

      update, not that i think any one is noticing but on the off chance they do. It looks like the little mini connectors did exactly what the person above did, put micro stresses so they disconect very easily now. I messed around and used some other cables and I can still sync my PO's to my volcas and stuff but they are really finicky. Probably just make sure to use the stand and be careful when playing because while the PO's are pretty sturdy, they do have some weak spots

    Nice! I have the same adaptors :-) Pity that the internal compressors of the PO's cause erratic volume drops. But for home use it's fine and fun... I linked 3 PO's with a NTS-1, a flat power bank underneath brings it to the same height for the adaptor and voila: great little setup.

    I understand how synchronization works between different POs. But what happens if I have three different devices and want to synchronize them to the master clock of the PO? For example, I have a Volca Keys, a Korg NTS-1, and the PO-33. My intention is to use the PO-33 as the master; therefore, in this case, the clock flow would be the PO-33, then the Volca, and lastly the NTS-1. The setting of the Pocket Operator would be SY1, if I’m not mistaken? And the setting of the PO would change according to the position in the workflow, meaning in the middle of the chain it would be SY5 and at the end of the flow chain SY4, or is this only between Pocket Operator devices?

    Just purchased the Keystep 37 today. I am not familiar at all with midi controllers. Could you suggest a starter set up to get me started with song making? All I have is iPad mini 5. Just ordered usb b to lightning cable and hope it will be compatible?

    • @FreeBeat
      @FreeBeat  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That should work fine as long as it's the full size type b jack! I'm not really up to speed on iPad apps but I'd imagine you could make some awesome music with just that setup alone!

    Perhaps you can help, I'm trying to sync my 33 to my 24, and when I do, it turns the metronome on.
    How do I disable the metronome, while leaving it in the sync mode I want? Which, I've got the 33 on SY1, and the 24 on either SY4 or SY5.

      While I acknowledge that the very beginning of the video (the reminder about a show that has since passed) can be skipped, it's important to remember that not everyone has the same amount of knowledge. Information like having patterns in the PO's and the proper cables to use might seem obvious to you, however, someone might be completely new to these devices, and the information presented starting at 1:14 might be crucial to their success.

    I followed all the instructions but now I can't seem to get rid of a loud click on SY1. It seems to be a metronome and it's louder than the rest of my track completely drowning out my PO speak which is my SY1. Do you know how to disable the metronome under this circumstance?

    • @FreeBeat
      @FreeBeat  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That look click is actually the sync signal itself. It typically means that one of your Pocket Operators is in the wrong sync mode. Double check that they're all chained and sync'd properly :)
