@DaveCam, I am a mod with Ollie, and we always enjoy it when you join the stream. You are a great bloke, and enjoy your content. Yesterday was a blast to watch. Sorry for the bad luck. It was shaping up to be an awesome race
That mistake at the end reminds me of my luckiest win on LFM, where the leader was way ahead of me but slowed down on the final lap to try to wind down the clock. I passed him after we crossed the line. He'd already slowed down but something didn't quite make sense. My car dash was showing "final lap" and although the ACC spotter seemed to think the race was over, I didn't get the usual congratulatory message from Jim. So I floored it. Other guy realised his mistake as well but I was gone. Afterwards, he swore that the timer was zero when he crossed the line.
Having watched Ollie's stream yesterday, I was really looking forward to seeing your version. Was a great race, I really enjoyed the banter and racing between you both
@Dave I'm no expert, but I have done a few track/professional training days on my motorbike MT09SP, just a suggestion you might wanna try this out and see if it can help you carry some speed through corners (esp. increasing exit speed / getting back on acceleration earlier)... Instead of cruising through the apex (off throttle / delayed re-engagement) see if you can try "maintaining" (holding a steady "throttle on" through the corner) which keeps the revs up "still in drive" and "MAY" increase exit speed cos the engine is already engaged and ready to be increased which "may" reduce "pickup lag", esp on turbo engines (on a bike, the sensation is that of "rolling on" as you leave the corner and it's an amazing feeling). My exit speeds defo increased by holding a "maintenance" (still engaged) speed through the corners, as long as it matches the corner speed you'll not spin out, but the engine is ready to pick up straight away as soon as you see it open back up. I am a Yorkshireman at the end of the day and tyre wear started to be affected so I didn't take it to an extreme, so be warned, you still suffer "wear", but it's worth playing with, esp when SIM tyres cost nothing ;-) Love your content and btw: Ollie overtook on a yellow, cheaters will cheat!!!!
Nailed it again Dave!! I was glued to your rearview mirror when you were just ahead of Basic Ollie! Truly a blast to watch. I must confess to pulling over one lap short in a race! Beyond embarrassing!!!
First slowdown, you throw yourself in front of Dustin through the esses, that felt a bit like blocking honestly. Taking the inside line after was a nice tactical move. But you called it "going of the racing line to let him pass", lol. You knew he wouldn't be able to get passed going round the outside ;-) But perfect usage of the track layout. But in that moment, many would have given you a bit of a bump. So props to Dustin for keeping it clean. :-)
Where did I block? It was down the esses where you can't really move left or right. You're kinda stuck. I moved off the racing line (to the right) as soon as I could. I left the door open initially for him to come through but he didn't.
@@davecamyt when you re-entered the track @11.50. If you would have kept left and got rid of that 0.7s immediatly, Dustin would have been able to pass right-hand side without having to lift and you would have been in his tow immediatly after, and only 2 secs behind Ollie. Now you threw yourself in front of him, dealing with the slowdown towards the end of the esses, holding up Dustin doing so, check the Delta. Then going 2 wide on the double right hander, trying to keep in front of him, knowing he would be in tow on the straight afterwards, thus getting into a rumble towards the chicane. You made a "how-to deal with a slow-down" earlier, this was not optimal in my point of view. But it's easy to say afterwards, deciding in the moment itself is way harder, even for veterans :-) Great racing anyway.
The fastest line is on the left with a wide entry into the right hander which is why I stayed on the right. My slowdown cleared maybe a tenth too quick for him so I was able to keep racing. Im confident id have got the move done if the roles were reversed.
I love how quick you contain yourself in a full blown rage lol. I do not have that ability. its amazing what holding your tongue for 15 seconds will do.
12:25 you are late to cover that. You’ve allowed a 3/4 car width sized gap to the inside of the next corner and then go to fully close it when he has an overlapping run. You expect him to lift out of it as you come across from the middle of the track?
@@craigcalladine851 thanks buddy. I have 1 win and 4 top 5s in gt4 so far from 9 races. Started December 26th, out of rookies about two days later. Loving iracing and really glad I made the leap.
FIrst of all, great race, always fun to have another streamer on there. Second of all, I won't tolerate this HPD slander. Let's see you drive one at Road Atlanta! 😤Make sure to use the low DF setup for extra spiciness. Oh I remember that Telmo guy from some races I did last week. Let's just say, not surprising.
My experience of racing in HPD class has been extremely questionable in terms of the driving standards. I moved to GT1 as its not made of paper and standards seem to be better. Car randomly died yesterday in my first race (you can see a video of it in the GT1 section of the discord - very odd!) Also that was some move by Ollie, I was clenching watching it live on his stream!
Hi Dave. I’m 6 months into my journey and learning quickly. Your channel has helped me improve and it’s very enjoyable to watch you race. Just sending positive vibes your way and wanted to say thank you!
Is there a way you can show good overtakes, aswell as bad moves... I feel the focus is always on the negative sides of racing.. which enoucrages more negative racing in my opinion.
I have one question for dave and ollie and anyone else whose from the UK. Where does the extra syllable come from in aluminum? There's no Y. No extra I, is it like the tooth fairy? Just gotta believe it's there?
Where was your head at Dave? I've never seen you try to finish a lap early before. As for wanting to forget this race, I want to forget all of mine. 😂 Keep it up. 👍
A quick rant about Road Atlanta Road Atlanta in its current layout is suitable only for virtual races... just. In the real world it has many problems. The blind crest at Road Atlanta is a constant source of accidents and severe injuries - many life-changing or fatal. IMSA should force them to make changes. Any one of removing the chicane, creating a longer level area to give those arriving time to avoid a spinning or stopped car, re-profiling the entire corner sequence to create a wider chicane entry at right angles to the descent so drivers have more time to avoid stopped or spinning traffic, or funnel all the cars with Armco barriers from the bottom of the hill to the end of the sequence (a bit like Bathurst). To leave it as it is for so many years when other tracks have been forced to change for much less egregious safety reasons is inexcusable. It is the reason Indycar cite for no longer running the track.
It isn’t realistic to make the changes required to remove the dangers, plus it would make it an entirely different track. There are similarly dangerous crests in 3 and the exit of 5. The turn 10 chicane was itself an addition to make that crest safer. While I do think it’s a relatively dangerous track, the idea that it’s too dangerous for Indycar is a joke while they still go to high speed ovals. And what makes the Road Atlanta crests more dangerous than the Barber crests, for example?
what's the point of a Ford Mustang in the UK says a chap from darn sarf. Up north is full of opportunities. ... we don't have roadworks or hold ups like that. ;)
It amazes me how many people are totally willing to be "that guy" and jump straight into the upper class despite their skill level and decision making obviously not being up to the task. How many clumsy disaster races do you have before you just say "you know what? I'm probably not ready for this, I will drive the Ford"?
38:24 i agree that you started to change the line, but you stopped later on and he saw doors open. Is that really aggresive of him to go like this? Sure! But move at 38:32 could have been a bit reactionary, idk. What do you guys think? I don't to hate on Dave here, i very much like him, just want to learn :D
A block is a reactionary move. I was moving left for about 200 meters. The guy behind has to decide where he's going to go and imo he chose the wrong option. My move wasn't reacting to anything so not a block 👍
It had something to do with having to use the UI instead of the actual website to join races, I believe. Last night there was 13k players online, and the ROAR special event had over 2k players signing up per race. Not bad for a 16yo game.
