Nice video, but these pilots were not very good. When turning rate is not enough, you can make barrel rolls to evade. With a Mustang you can use flaps to tighten the curve. P-51 has a superior engine. Make the 109 to start vertical scissors and let the 109 to stall. These pilots do not seize the climbing ability of P-51. Dogfighting is about energy management.
Agreed. Most pilots are, surprise, average. Especially so in DCS vs Il2/War Thunder because you have so much to deal with. Though you may be in for a rude awakening trying to outclimb a K4 in a Mustang!
@@mckseal There is a DOS game with aged graphics. But AI is awesome. Installing DOSbox and then running Chuck Yeager Air Combat. is what they need. In August 1944 for sure K-4 would be a surprise. But you need to see the speed at which it starts the climb. A 109 pilot that is not good at energy management can see a surpise. The first thing you must notice is how good a pilot is at energy management. P-47 are good at high altitude above angels 30. This is where you need them to be. For attack runs, dive, drop and climb again. It is a shame that in this sim you do not have teams who practice together. With a couple of P-47 you could use a spread line abreast and when a 109 goes after one they start horizontal scissors, so the other P-47 can fire upon the 109 head on several times until the 109 is downed. P-47s can withstand lots of punishment.
@@josepablolunasanchez1283 Actually I have seen that a few times. I think these P47s were learning the ropes, but they were flying in flights of 5-6 which is why they sometimes got shots at me. Unfortunately they were out of position, still learning. We've seen P47s up escorting the B17s as well, which is usually around angels 21-25. They do well up there, but as you get even higher than that they become absolute kings. Also the 109s in Storm of War (which is the main MP server) often aren't given MW30 which makes them more like a heavy 109 G6 rather than K4. It certainly mixes things up! I'm always keen for a wingman, and still learning most of the aircraft in DCS WW2 - so if you ever want to share some advice send me a message :)
@@mckseal When my computer looks at DCS, it feels like a typewriter. So I cannot be your wingman. I have learned all these tricks flying older sims with great AI and studying lots of history. I am more of a WWII fan and this is where I am more proficient. When it comes to jets, my survival rate is indecently low. So I am not a great pilot. I guess I must be better at drifting cars in a rally than mastering a jet fighter. As for advice, any plane has its advantages and disadvantages. There is another tip if your plane delivers enough yaw. If you have a slow plane with poor banking and terrible at turning, you will have to make violent maneuvers with your rudder to offer a moving target when you jink. Rudder will make your plane to drift, avoiding enemy fire. And when enemy passes you, you have split seconds to react, aim and shoot. If you have more than one enemy, after you shoot, you make a turn and try to face another enemy head on and later you repeat rudder, aiming and shooting to avoid other enemy plane fire, repeat until all enemies are downed or they disengage.
Aside of energy management, the single most important skill in a WWII fighter is gunnery skill. Percent of bullets fire that actually hit the target. Without it, any great plane, any energy management is useless. It involves the ability to lead target and to establish range.in a very changing environment. "Chuck Yeager Air Combat" for DOS may be horribly polygonal and has dated graphics and beepy sound, but the way you learn there is way better than many other sims. Then you have "Fighter Squadron: Screaming Demons over Europe" that pushes your solo maneuvering skills to the limit.

Rookie pilot, P47 with flaps down (quite an unstable plane when slow with flaps down) and a bunch of netcode (I'm in Australia). That big wing means the pilots can really fling the plane around. Most of the time it gets them killed, but the rookies can't resist it. I guess there's a reason pilots train in planes in real life before being flung into combat!
You can fly singleplayer in whatever view you like, but you will struggle to fight effectively without gunsight etc. This server does not allow third person view while flying, only in the replay.
DCS has more accurate flight models with some (minor) flaws. Better systems damage and graphics. But IL2 runs better and can handle more players with less crashes, better spotting and VR support. Easier on the wallet too. I'd definitely say DCS WW2 is worth picking up, the flight models really are great. That said IL2 remains my #1 WW2 sim.

Fair enough, this ones more random snippets I found interesting cobbled together and it shows. Still was fun to fly and make. Experimenting with whatever works.
Likely hadn't flown much, was flying as the wingman and both were carrying bombs. They flew great formations though! I think they were planning for unopposed ground-attack. There's a decent chance some of these guys hadn't done any dogfights/air-air fights at all. That's just how it goes sometimes - at this point I'd only had 1 or 2 proper air-air engagements in DCS ww2 myself!
@@j.muckafignotti4226 In terms of flight physics, it's the best out there. Not that it's perfect. I'd suggest the BF109 if you're going for a WW2 aircraft personally.
@@mckseal But I’m such a Mustang fan! Worked on P-51’s back in the late ‘70’s and early ‘80’s, truly men flew them in anger. I’ve spoken to so many European theater pilots in my time, the stories they told were as awe inspiring as they were horrifying. There was this one pilot who told me of his encounter with a FW-190 in the early part of 1944. They had just transitioned out of the P-47 and were flying the birdcage P-51 A/B’s. They were escorting some Marauders into France when they got a call from a group of FW-190’s. He said as soon as they knew they were there, his wingman’s P-51 disintegrated and just burned. His buddy never got out, he shot down his first two aircraft that morning and said when he landed his cockpit was covered in his own puke from being so terrified. He told me that new pilots usually had to be helped out of the cockpit the first couple of dogfights, the crew chiefs were there saviors. They’d get them out of the plane, get them cleaned up, give them a shot of some tent hooch, and try and calm them down. The Jeep’s would be around to pick them up for debriefing post flight, and what chilled me the most, was he said the smell of shit and vomit was quite prevalent in the intel hut. Makes you think doesn’t it!?!
@@j.muckafignotti4226 Wow, that's a lot. Terrifying! Be warned, if you're a yank you may think the mustang is... better than it really is. If you fly it in any flight sims you will quickly find it has its strengths, but it has plenty of weaknesses too.

Any tips for the guns or leading or no?
Not sure what you mean. Much easier to lead with other planes, the 30mm is slow as.
