    I was stationed at Marine Barracks 8th & I in Washington DC, where these guys, and the Marine Corps Band are from back in 1998-2000. I saw them perform every Friday evening along with the Silent Drill Platoon during the Friday evening Parade, (Mostly because I had to work security (8152)). I can't remember seeing this side of the D&B Corps. Original works? Never could even imagine that being played. Well done Devil Dogs!

      They sound and look great, probably have only certain amount of people in the unit, my guess would be that maybe someone wasn't feeling well enough to perform that day,it doesn't take away from the skills of the people on the field, 95% of the people in the corps come from dci corps,they all have to audition before going to boot camp every member has already had the discipline to play in the corps, it takes a lot of work to sound and look as great as they do, the bass contra bass section and bass drum sections, are in full control and the entire unit sounds awesome thank you for your service to our country these are the finest examples of people who represent Us

    love it the "pit" is like the golden years of DCI corps developing the grounded pit in early 1980's. It's how they all started timpani and keyboards grew into what it is today.
    Remember this is true Drum and Bugle corps unit Don't forget these are not only musicians but rifleman in the USMC that means when the snit hits the fan they are skilled and qualified to shoot a rifle!

      Exactly... one listen to DCI, or heck, even a decent 4A-6A high school band brass section, and they can very easily make you feel like you got hit by a brick wall.
      I'd be shocked if you found one that actually sounded thin.

      I marched in the Boston crusaders in 1979 we had only 25guys in our horn line and everyone was playing their hard work during rehearsal allowed them to sound as strong as corps twice our size, everyone on the field in this very special unit is amazing and are 95# recruited from the top corps from drum Corp international but most of all they chose to serve our country,to the brave young man and ladies who wear this uniform thanks for your time and great talent for our freedom

    • @theclimbingchef
      @theclimbingchef 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jack Brainard They've always had a small pit. It doesn't take away at all the musicianship these men and women posses. Actually, it just goes to show that you don't need all the bells and whistles that todays' DCI has. I see a lot of people rip the G bugles as well. The sound is warmer and it takes more skill to play.

    Notice the Bugle sound 2valve Beats the crap out of Bb trumpets for projection and edge. Notice they still call it Drum and Bugle . Smaller horn line than many DCI but have more volume of sound. Brighter Somewhat edgy . Would still have liked to hear more of snare sound from drums. Thank you Marines for staying true to the Heritage. I can again focus on the music with precision drill, not being distracted by monstrous pits, dancers, props,. Would it be politically correct to ask you to do a color pre with honor guard? Magnificent 7 ? Magnificent, 70. Bravo !

    • @davidwarner3326
      @davidwarner3326 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Having marched both G and Bb, I can attest to it being about how the members are taught to play and not about the instruments themselves.

    • @faervas1234
      @faervas1234 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidwarner3326 They are not the comparable instruments. It's like comparing fugal, trumpet, and coronet. Also try and get everyone to play in perfect tune which will kill your volume and range. I call it the splat sound of corp style where you have a few people overplaying in performances and killing the over all tune. Bugles are brassy and splat out sound.
