Yes, Battle City defined Yugioh. It was just before Battle City, part way through the dungeon dice monsters segment, that I came across Yugioh. From then on I was an instant fan!
Original Yugioh will always be my favorite of all the yugioh animes. The first three seasons were the best. Especially Battle City arcs and Virtual World arc.

I tried to watch the Japanese version, tbh I couldn't last 2 minutes, it's so bad no soundtrack and the voice actors are just bad you can't feel the passion of dub Kaiba, the evilness of Bakura or mind twisted Marik , even Abridged series had better voice acting lol

Every line he says is beautiful in Japanese. In the English dub he has really dumb lines (example: if at first you don't succeed hit them with your Blue-Eyes again. It's fucking dumb)
As much as 4Kids screwed up most of the dubbing for most of the shows they did. I can say without much doubt that Yu-gi-oh wasn't one of them. The voice acting was spot on great and the soundtrack was amazing. While I know that some people would prefer the japanese sub and I can see why but the english dub in my opinion is just as good as the sub.
IndianaJoel93 I honestly thought the dub was even darker than the original in some cases. Also I'm kinda glad I didn't get to see the bloody fate of Marik's parents in full detail as a 7 year old boy lol
I think the biggest problem is how they changed kaiba. In the dub he keeps saying how doesn't believe in this "hocus pocus mind trick" but in the sub he actually believes in it its just that he doesn't rly care that much and all he's concerned about is beating yugi
I think that 4Kids made it much scarier with the Shadow Realm than death in the Japanese since let's be honest. You're not dead but you're stuck in torture for eternity. I guess they get another point? ^^;

i love the ending part lol. It usually plays towards the end of an episode where someone dueling yugi would say " ..and you dont stand a ghost of a chance yugi! muahahah" or "youll fall against the wrath of my egyptian GOD ! Muwahhahhaaha!". you know , something of that sort.

I can only seem to find it for sure in I think the fourth episode in the north american one where yu gi is battling against Mokuba but he doesn't know it at the time and mokuba is trying to find yu gi and make him pay for the disappearance of his brother. If you know what i'm talking about and can help me find it I would greatly appreciate it!

Battle city was The Cell Games. For Yugioh. with a touch of God powerups! It really gave the characters their main look.
