The only thing better is the original Japanese ("俺が勝った")It's even more dismissive than the direct translation that theyve used.
If I were to translate the full exchange in "Hollywood dialogue English", essentially what he said was: "Yeah, I butted heads with that Harvey Weinstien guy. . . . I won."

My mom rented this movie for us when we were 9 years old not Knowing anything about it. I remember her walking past the room just to check on us and seeing the guy's arms get blown off and stuck to the tree and after that horror subsided she sat down and watched the rest with us and was completely completely impressed with the themes. Still one of my favorites and it holds up very well even today

I love this anime... these little insights only makes me love it even more. Miyazake is a true master of animation. His themes and visual style make his movies meaningful, thoughtful and timeless. The voice actors did an exceptional job. It's a shame Gaiman didn't get a credit for his work... it makes sense that someone of his talent was responsible for helping translate the movie so well.
I'm gonna go watch it right now... Miyazake marathon here I come!

Excellent video. The only quibble I would have is when you suggest that the themes of Mononoke-Hime are "unusually dark" for Ghibli. That shows that the person who wrote the script is somehow unaware of Studio Ghibli's earliest works -- things like Nausicaa or Laputa, not to mention Grave of the FIreflies. Although I agree that Mononoke-Hime was a particularly well crafted exposition on the theme, Ghibli has always dealt with adult themes of good and evil, tragedy and loss, and the ability to rise above the bad things that happen.

I saw Prince's Mononoke in theaters when it was released here in the US back in 99 when I was 8 or 9. I knew nothing about it and originally didn't want to see it because of its name (ew a princess movie??) And because it was a cartoon (i was trying to be cool and act older than I was). Man was i blown away from the opening scene. Ever since it has been one of my favorite movies of all time and definitely my favorite anime film. It's nuanced and beautiful to look at. It impacted me so much as a kid and I get something new out of it every time I watch it. I'll definitely be showing this to my kids one day it's got one of the best messages in film, that it's important to love people but to also respect and love nature. We have to find balance in life in order to do what is right by ourselves and others. Fantastic fantastic film

Of all the miyazaki films this one is my top pick. This is by far the darkest tone miyazaki made since and the epic scope of the story and complex characters and not to mention the relatively long run time makes this a must watch. I wish they'll make this a live action film with avatar like budget to fully realize the world building that studio ghibli painstakingly created. Heres to hoping netflix or amazon would notice! 🙏

I tried my best to stay calm with all the violence but when the white boar was stabbed by men wearing his kin's skin to fool him I couldn't stop crying. I had to be put to bed early I was so upset I was screaming. I think that was my first exposure to real raw cruelty.

These executives who think we are all utter morons are responsible for so many things the writers get blamed for. It made me laugh to hear about the one who though that we can accept a character is a prince unless they have a palace which requires changing so much just so the audience can see a palace because without seeing a palace we would be confused and wonder what a prince is and shit.
TH-cam has some vids of directors complaining about their beloved movie getting turned to idiotic junk that flops bad and fails to make a profit due to executive meddling by guys with awfully strange ideas about what is "necessary" to make it a winner.
No matter how many times that happens they somehow cant figure out that gutting a script for these dubious "it can only be a success if we treat the customer like a dummy" rules they impose on directors and writers.

If anyone is interested in learning about the relationship between Ghibli and Disney, I HIGHLY recommend you read the book by Steven Alpert: Sharing a House with the Never-ending Man. It’s a wonderful book the details the American (Alpert) working for the Ghibli, cultural differences, funny stories, meeting with Gaiman and Weinstein, and so many others. This movie is one of favorites and I’ve seen it at least a few hundred times since I first saw it 21 years ago.

What is hero trying to do? What is heroine trying to do? What is that women's problem? Doesn't she know that killing gods made them demons that destroy everything.
At the end nothing happens. Humans again start mining, what changeed?
All those death for what... The women got her hand cut and it's justice for all the death. No way.

      1) They do "something", I cannot give a textual description of every single event of the 2 hour+ long movie in which they partake.
      2) They each have their perspectives and objectives. No, she obviously has no idea that severing its head would lead to the remainder of the body going berserk instead of killing it.
      3) The story comes full circle yes since there is no objective solution to the man vs nature argument, but all the characters have a better understanding and empathy for the other sides.
      4) Even if the woman (Lady Eboshi) had died instead of having her arm severed, that would've solved nothing. The women workers would be leaderless, being once again forced to work at brothels while the mining would've been taken over by the Samurai they're shown to've been fending off.
      5) There was no good side, there was indiscriminate death on all sides but in the end there is a glimmer of hope for co-existence.. a fitting ending in my opinion. Not sure what the "more" you are referring to is.
