Just found this grill and a cover for $455 out the door. Found your video while I'm waiting for shipping. Makes me glad I bought it. Excited. Great video
I started with a small electric smoker last year. It was ok, but started failing on me. With that I started looking at pellet grills. BJ’s had this on sale for $399.00 on their website, cover included. Figured I’d wait and see if it again got reduced. Walked in to BJ’s today and they had one left, assembled, for $299.00. SOLD!!! Took the legs off and stuck it in my SUV. It was missing two screws for shelf bracket, the probe, and the shelf bracket was bent a bit. No problem. When I called to register it the young lady told me she’d sent out missing parts. Great customer service. Tiffany, you are a star! I can’t wait to fire this bad boy up. $299.00, cover included was a great deal.
Great review Tom. I just saw one of these at the store assembled and was super impressed. I didn't buy it yet because wanted to read more reviews. Your review was helpful to let me know what I was getting into. I'm now driving back to the store to get one, and returning the Zgrill that is arriving Friday. This thing is obviously a tremendous sturdy machine and the extras blow all the Tragers and Zgrills now going on sale and they're not nearly this high quality.
Really appreciate your incisive grill reviews Mr Tom. I’m watching this right now. Smart Grillers look for value and there are many great values and performers on the market. I have friends who crow about their Traegers but their price points are too dang steep steep for my blood and pocketbook. Keep on grilling Tom ❤️
Just bought one of these, going to use it this weekend. First impression is that it's great quality, very durable looking and assembly was straightforward. Very impressed with the size and the price was perfect at $600 Canadian. Can't wait to try some chicken on it.
My freind and I baught it a couple months ago in Germany. We paid 740€ which is about 800 $. But even for that Price it was totally worth buying. We use it every weekend. Especially the accuracy of the temperatures and the Quality of the whole thing is amazing!
Great review. I was able to get the 580 version which has the same build quality. I’m excited to get my first cook on it and see how everything turns out.
Thanks. I saw this for $399 with the cover at Bjs. Saw your review and reading reviews online I ended up buying it. A little history, I have been smoking meats in my Weber Smokey mountain smoker for about 10 years. I love it but it's a lot of work to smoke pork butts, briskets and large chunks of meat. About a year ago I was at my nephew's and loved his wifi Traeger----I wanted one BAD. But $1400 was way too expensive so I researched for about a year. I was ready to get a Pit Boss until I saw this for half about $300 less than a Pit Boss. First impression was "this thing is solid"!! All the burner parts/screw are SS (I believe), the grates are solid and heavy coated with porcelain. I nearly threw my back out when I stood this grill up after assembling. I underestimated how solid it was. Anyway, I set it up, and burned in with apple wood/competition pellet blend. Then did my first smoke a few days later---wings, onions and sausage. It was amazing...I was able to get other things done while smoking. NOTE---please update the firmware because it kept disconnecting from WiFi and only held solid on BT until I updated it. My only concern is longevity of the PID/screw/burner system because it's only been out for a few years but it's the Traeger design.. I am convinced the rest of the grill will last very long. It's just as solid as my Weber 4 burner gill.
Just got mine today. Home depot for $349 online. Super sturdy. Can't figure out how to set temp though. Keeps running past set temp. Haven't Bluetooth or Wi-Fi yet. Just using bbq controls. Thing is built amazing.
I bought a 790 last spring. Grill works alright... but mine arrived without any temperature probes. Have been trying for months to get one but no dice... You get what you pay for!
Thank you for your video. I just bought one on home Depot (and waiting for it to arrive). After buying it, I saw a grill grates which looks like an amazing addition. I was just wondering if this would work on this grill given there is no open flame? Now I'm wondering if I shouldn't have bought the pit boss 850 pro series. They looked to be very similar other than the open flame. Thanks for your help.
If I was in the market for a pellet grill, this review would put this grill right at the top of my list. I can’t believe this is only $550! I would’ve guess $700-$800, especially with inflation over the last several months.
How about doing a review of the Nexgrill Oakford vertical/cabinet smoker? I'd really like to see a comparison to the Pit Boss Copperhead Onyx cabinet. I know it's me. Personally for smoking I get better flavor out of a cabinet pellet smoker than a pellet grill. Just asking as I respect your opinion.
@@richardsqueeze sorry for the late reply. Yes it worked as expected and then some! Fit and finish is top notch. Holds temp very well and the ribs and chicken I’ve cooked have been superb. It was funny that in the first time seasoning there was very little smoke and thought I had a clunker! It is an absolute steal @349 from BJs.
I bought an Oakford 790 based on your video and presentation. Mine is about 20 degrees off, comparing temp set point and grate temp. I’m quite disappointed with my unit.
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ *thanks Boss! Appreciate your input.* Would love to see them side by side and then make a decision, but TH-cam and Tom Horsman is the next best thing 🤣
The grill itself is GREAT but the connectivity it the Cell Phone app is questionable. To date I can not connect to the app to be able to control grill from my phone.
I just got the 1000 from home depot new for $370USD. Just seasoned and gunna smoke some beef ribs tomorrow. Wish me luck! How do you clean ash out by the way? Also, do you feel you need a water tray?
Thanks for Watching! I clean the ash with a shop vac, but only after all embers and fire is out, usually days later. Water tray I use under something greasy to make clean up easier. Enjoy!
I read there are many problems with their WiFi connection and the auger won't stop pushing in the pellets. Did anyone have issues with their unit? I can't find anyone really reviewing the Oakford unit.
Wow, solid grill for the money. I appreciate some others grills like Camp Chefs ability to quickly clean the burn pot but hey, that features not worth $300. But I can't believe you only get 1 meat probe.
Super cool review as always. Here's an idea. Customer service is super important. What if you call up customer service and see how long it takes to get a human being ,then fire 3 questions at them to see if they actually know anything and are friendly. I just did buy a Z grill and the first time I called, they called back about 8 hours later. The second time I called, they never did call back. I got a sorry we missed you text. Not picking on Z Grills or trying to run your channel. It's just an idea. Love your content !!!
Hello Mr. Tom, Is there enough room to smoke a 16-18 pound turkey inside the 780? What is the height from lower grate to top of cooking chamber? Thanks again for all the great reviews!!
Thanks for Watching! I’ve removed the flame tamer and grease tray and put a cast iron griddle over the direct flan]me for a cast iron seared steak. Works nicely
Thanks for watching David! All pellet grill controllers are considered damp proof not water proof. I’ve used mine in the rain with a plastic tray over hanging from the shelf above to keep any water from directly getting on the controller
Good question Nathan! There’s only one pellet grill that has an easy ash clean out and that’s on the Recteq Bullseye deluxe which has a butterfly valve at the bottom of the burn pot with a lever that’s on the front of the grill it empties into a removable drawer, works very well. The others that have a cup like the Camp chef are a pain to use, good idea but not very practical. On the majority of my pellet grills I spend 5 minutes before each cook to vacuum out the burn pot and clean any grease spillage which may have occurred. Thanks
Update on my Nexgrill, not happy terrible support. Used it twice and it hit the high temp override shut the grill down. Covered under warranty but the part wont be in for more than two months. This is a bad sign and I would not recommend this grill.
Why in the heck do all these non-tech savy and non-cyber security savy folks think wifi is cool where they are connecting something made in china to their home network where they can access from anywhere? Well, if you can access it from anywhere, so can everyone else and it is a nice entry into your home network.
