I'm what most people call a "big guy", 6' 2", 290. I've picked that exact bike up off a man who wrecked in front of me. I also then carried the man to the side of the road because his lower leg had a compound fracture. Then I couldn't get the bike on the center stand! Thanks for this video, I've been trying to do it wrong my whole life! Granted, most bikes I've owned didn't have the option. Thanks for the video!
Had an old gsx1100 with a center stand years ago. Always struggled like hell to get it on the center stand. Until I had to get new tyres and I saw the mechanic lift the effortlessly. I asked him how he did it and he showed me this exact method and it made life so much easier.
I have a K1600 and have been doing it as you describe. I recently discovered that subtly pulling the bike to the rear at the same time as lifting with your right makes a remarkable difference.
Thanks Bruce .... I just picked up a used BMW R1100RT it’s my first bike with a center stand. Just went to the garage and put it on it’s center stand, ez peezy!
I'm 5'6 and 150 lbs, just got my first bike a few months ago and doing maintenance on my chain for the first time. I had no hope of getting 800 lbs up onto that stand but this worked perfectly on the first try. Great video, thanks!
I can't thank you enough. Been trying to do it from on the bike with a backwards thrust but could only get it about 70% of the way there. This worked first try and looked 100% less stupid in the process
Sooooo true. Nicely, perfectly put! It's a relatively simple matter of 1) stability (trust that your bike isnt falling over if you're standing on that stand when its in contact with the floor) and 2) an easy pivot/rotation of the bike (vs. "lifting" it) around that fulcrum point.
Nice video. I always leave the side stand down, and put the bike in first gear. Then steady the bike on the center stand, push down or stand on it, and pull the bike back like you, using the back grab handle and left handlebar. But in addition, I will have pulled the clutch lever back to disengage first gear and allow the bike to roll back on the rear wheel. The reason for first gear/clutch? If the bike doesn’t go onto its center stand for whatever reason, and starts to roll forwards or sideways, I simply let the clutch out to stop the bike, and drop it back onto the side stand. Always a useful back up, especially on uneven surfaces or on ground which has a slight slope that you didn’t notice. You don’t always park on a nice smooth garage floor like yours! Some people claim that the side stand can be a trip hazard, but once you’ve mastered this technique it just isn’t an issue. Safe biking!
Thank you my friend. July 2, 2024. Hope all is well with you 6 years later. Thank you for the pointer. Always nervous putting my 2004 Yamaha VMax on its center stand. Just put it up and like the tip 👍
A fantastic good technique and thank you for very sharing. I'm a new rider and been have struggling with this. That's why I was looking on YT. You solved it all in one go.😊
I used this to, nice to see you spreading this knowledge. I use it on my Honda transalp 600, where the center stand is designed very pour. Resulting it being heavy to set.
Ill be darn............. Just did this to my CB1100 and it worked. I did have to pull up quite a bit with my right arm, but it worked. I tried 6 times before this unsuccessfully, but then I watched the video.
Thank you so much just got my virago 750 on it’s center stand I weight 145 it was a struggle but once I listened and gave up being scared of dropping it putting the weight in the stand made all the difference 🎉
Stand on it, absolutely. My F4i was still a bear to get onto the centerstand. Then I tried grabbing the passenger footpeg bracket with both hands and standing on the stand tang with my left foot and right foot on the ground. Push down with both feet and lift with both hands and it pops right onto the stand with maybe 30 lbs of force. Easy peasy.
Where was this video all my life? Always had a hell of a time getting a vfr 750 on the center stand. Oh well, two years too late for me. Algo comment so someone else may benefit.
Sadly, some bikes were not well designed in this aspect. I hurt my back with my K bike so often I quit using the center stand. When the ground isn't level, it can become impossible. My /5 and /2 were never a problem, my K75... not easy. My G650gs...pretty good.
Do you have any advice to get it off the centre stand? I had bikes for 38 years some with centre stands some without. Never before have I struggled like I am with this BMW K1300GT. 55 fit & well tradesman. Please help.
Not as difficult as people make it. Just like this: level ground...bike straight up vertically...perform from LEFT SIDE of bike....pull-lift-press down...all at the exact same time. Pull on left grip...push down on center stand foot pad...lift up tail section with right hand. Easy
Try doing that with a Suzuki GT750 Water Buffallo. My Brother had one back in the 1980's and I just could not get it up on the Center Stand. The grab rail was set too far back, and the foot lever was off the much lighter GT550 So, I just could not get the leverage to get it up on the stand. The GT550 I had no problem with, but as I said, it was much lighter.
I would add you need to wear a stout pair of boots or shoes with thick strong soles. If you wear soft footwear the end of the centre stand mentioned may penetrate the sole of footwear. Thick cleated soles, for example, on Danner boots, ideal. Don’t forget the smooth gear change trick, wish I’d known that when I purchased the bike rather than years later. And getting bike off centre stand?
I'll tell you I even easier way to put on the center. You don't even have to get off the bike, with your left foot place it on the Tang drop it to the ground and lift and pull back with handlebars. I discovered this on my R1100r.
I weigh 150 lbs and have to use nearly all my strength to put gsx1100g with full bags on its center stand it can be done, really focus on pulling up straight with right hand. As a lefty this was tough
I just watched this several times over, and I'm still not sure I'm ready to try this on my Ducati sports tourer. Just have a mental block about it falling away from me. This really is a situation of "trust the physics".

Your method took all the fear out of the action. Thanks
6 years later your video is still helping. Thanks!

Just got an 82 KZ1100, same issue lol
Just recently got my first bike and was struggling to get it onto its maintenance stand, this worked like a charm with a little elbow grease! Thanks!

@Hugh Jaanus Its center stand, not its (sentence begins with capital letter). You're welcome.
@Hugh Jaanus you really didn't understand his comment lol

That's the best and simplest advice you can give someone, thanks.
Been ridding 50 plus years and never knew that, THANX.

WOW, this is the best explanation I've seen. I struggled with my K1300GT before and now it was relatively easy.
So simple but so effective, thanks! Was definitely struggling with it before
Worked first time!!! Never been able to put it on the main stand before!!!
Thanks my man! Just installed a center stand on my RE Scram 411 thanks to your vid popped it up like a charm!

Thank you! Followed your instructions and for the first time ever got it on the centre stand on my own!

Thank you for this! Working smarter not harder!
A fantastic good technique and thank you for very sharing.

So easy, but exactly what I was looking for. Thanks
Searching for how to even get it on the center stand, this was better than what I first searched for, well done sir! Thanks!
Thank you so much just got my virago 750 on it’s center stand I weight 145 it was a struggle but once I listened and gave up being scared of dropping it putting the weight in the stand made all the difference 🎉
What year? I got me a '81 and I weigh 160 and it's a struggle lol
You're the man! Great job explaining that so simply
Very helpful saved me a lot of time thank you
That made it a million times easier thanks man!
Works great! Just needed to switch from dad slippers to heavy duty boots first. 😂
Worked liked a charm!!! Thank you so much. I was struggling a lot. Never again.

Thanks I have a 88 zx10 struggling to get on center stand
Trick works great for my bandit 1200 thanks!
Ahhh. Think I finally realised what I was doing wrong - not pushing it away from me out of fear it’ll drop… then trying to lift when not fully level
Im 5'4 160 on my lowered fjr1300 half inch in the rear 1 inch up front. She's heavy but manageable when necessary.
So amazing great explanation too

Done my back trying to get it on the centre stand now I know how to do it probably thank you.🙏🏻🏍
Thank you so much for uploading this video. It really made a difference.
Super useful! Thanks! In 30 years of riding, I have never tried that!
Thank you so much for this! I've been doing it the hard way lol
Best video of the day 👌
Thank you sir . Good to learn this in my old age .
Good show ! Thanks for the tip it works great !
You are the Man Sir👏🌟🙏‼️
Thanks, still bloody hard for me but now possible.
Such a great help!
Do you have any advice to get it off the centre stand? I had bikes for 38 years some with centre stands some without. Never before have I struggled like I am with this BMW K1300GT. 55 fit & well tradesman. Please help.
Spot on! Thank you
Greatly appreciated Sir!
Great job, leverage
Not as difficult as people make it. Just like this: level ground...bike straight up vertically...perform from LEFT SIDE of bike....pull-lift-press down...all at the exact same time. Pull on left grip...push down on center stand foot pad...lift up tail section with right hand. Easy

Dang, I’m just now learning about this lol.
I’m dying to try this! but my spotter hasn’t gotten back from the gambling boat yet 🤣🤣🤣
Saved my life
Regards from Germany. Yes, this is ho it is done. Do you know you can turn the whole thing around on one side of the centerstand?
Thanks for the tip….and the tip!

and I just could not get it up on the Center Stand. The grab rail was set too far back, and

thank you/// popped right up!!!
Perfect 🎉
The best! It works

Just like my style, its sooo easy 👍👍👍
Make sure your wareing a hard sole boot or shoe 😀
I'll tell you I even easier way to put on the center.
You don't even have to get off the bike, with your left foot place it on the Tang drop it to the ground and lift and pull back with handlebars. I discovered this on my R1100r.
I must be doing something wrong. My K1200LT seems too heavy. I am standing on the center stand and lifting with my right.
I weigh 150 lbs and have to use nearly all my strength to put gsx1100g with full bags on its center stand it can be done, really focus on pulling up straight with right hand. As a lefty this was tough
Why do you pop up the sidestand? Is it because it could be a trip hazard?
What happens if there is a 100litre top box containing 40kg of cargo?
The you are a fucking Idiot.
I've always used this "trick". How do people put centre stand without this trick? Pulling the whole bike back from the handle bars?
Thank you
Thanks a lot man🍅🍅🍅
Thank you, this was very helpful!
HERO ❤
THANK YOU!
Thanks. Ill try that when I recover from pulling my right back shoulder w my 530lbs r1100 lol
😂😂😂😂
Don't forget before ....... open side stand , always..........
I weigh 60kg, do I have no chance? I can't get it on its center stand.
Spent 15 minutes trying to figure it out. 5 seconds after this video
It works!!!
Nice!
I thought thats how everybody does it ??? i had no idea people did not know how to put their bike
on the centre stand????
Nice. Works great, just tie your shoes
Wach mi chanal even a kid get motivated to put center stand I put center stand for heavy bike without putting my both leg in ground
No lies 100% truth
ive never used a Centerstand didnt even know i had one i was cleaning it i seen it then lol
You can hear him start right at the beginning of the video before he is able to move or speak
👍👌👏
That's half the battle but what about taking it off
Omg that easy? 😂
Im gonna try it on my 400 pound sumo wrestler
I also take mine out of gear so it can roll back as it goes up.
left hand should have pulled clutch lever in
but that's only if your bike and center stand combination don't raise the bike much.. you'll see his rear wheel never really touches the ground
Elton John
Yes but it depends on how heavy you are 😒🤣
The first step is to have the bike in neutral.
Can't believe what I see in the comments?? Really? It's a common sense ffs, I thought this was a troll video
I just watched this several times over, and I'm still not sure I'm ready to try this on my Ducati sports tourer. Just have a mental block about it falling away from me.
This really is a situation of "trust the physics".
Thank you!
