Hotel Review - Red Roof Plus Forest Park, St Louis MO

  • In need of a place to crash for the night after I got chased out of my own house by construction fumes, I decided to check out my local budget hotel. I've always had a fondness for Red Roof properties for some reason. Maybe it's partially nostalgia since we stayed at them a lot when I was growing up, but I find they tend to be a cut above the equivalent Wyndham/Choice properties (ie Days Inn, Econolodge, etc). This one was no exception. Biggest issue was the faint smell of cigarette smoke in the room, which might just be from its location near the breezeway. I saw several guests smoking in this area during my short stay even though there are posted no smoking signs. Even still, it wasn't all that noticeable. The decor and cleanliness were well above par for a hotel in this class, at least in the room. The corridors and elevator could use a little love. Overall, not bad at all for the cheap price tag.

    I have stayed at a number of Red Roofs. They have a fairly generous points program and are fine for an overnight stay.
    The best feature is the laminate floor especially when traveling with the dog. Most RR’s accept pets at no charge
    Only once did I have a major issue with an RR in Illinois and ended up staying elsewhere. Suggest springing for the deluxe king room if you need more space.

    That’s a nice motel! And it even has a good old OTIS Series 1.

    I'd put it at late 60s, renovated to be more modern-looking. The textured walls are a giveaway.

      georgef551 Just looked it up out of curiosity. 1985. If it were any other chain I would have guessed early 70s, but Red Roof was pretty old school for a long time. They were still using this exact design well into the 90s.

    • @georgef551
      @georgef551 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TheElevatorChannel That is odd. They went retro with it then. The textured walls and door trim are right out of the 70s, I didn't know that style still existed then.

    This was very helpful for me. I live right at 100 miles from St Louis, and stay in the city with some regularity. Good to know there's a good, inexpensive option when I require it. Thanks!

    I know it's not standard for Red Roof Inn to have breakfast but, my family and I stayed at a Red Roof Inn plus in Palm Coast Florida it's a former Sleep Inn they had a full hot breakfast and it was actually a decent one for Red Roof Inn.

    Toasting in the bathroom, The Elevator Channel style.
    Put your slice of bread in the toaster oven, turn it on, and jump in the shower.
    After the toaster dings, the shower stops, and Jacob comes out!

    Red Roof Plus is a new one I haven't heard of before this video. Another new one for me apparently Best Western now has a series of budget hotels called SureStay Hotels by Best Western and some of the old Best Western properties are being rebranded with this new name while others may still be Best Western. This new brand something to definately look into a little more.

    I just stayed here a couple weeks ago and it has really gone downhill! The place is not being maintained in the slightest. The interior and exterior doors were damaged and had holes, the walls had holes, the room wasn’t clean, hair in the bed, and they tried to mask the smoke smell. Also, the elevator wasn’t functioning as I was traveling with a disabled friend, and the railings for the stairs and in front of the rooms were damaged and not secure. The room beneath us was boarded up. I complained to the desk and they did nothing to improve the situation or refund my stay. The place is a dump now.
