Probably my favorite sh song. Mark died about a week before I was made alive by the Spirit of God. My young brother, who was killed a few weeks ago just before his firstborn came into this world, was the only other person I knew who was also a Sparklehorse fan. I remember he was the one who told me Mark had died. His name was Tim. Timotheus. He was such a happy little fat baby, too. Looking forward to holding _his_ little fat baby when she gets here any day now. Wishing he could have cus I know he woulda been such a good daddy, he was always so good with the kids. But I know God has a plan and have seen Him work great wonders through this (what looks from our perspective in this temporal reality to be a) tragedy. Please pray for the love of his life, Jessica, the mother of his child, that she might find comfort and healing in the depths of her grief in the limitless love of Christ Even in great pain and at our lowest points, and especially so, God is so very good through it all.
***** Bro! Good Lord... I'm so sorry to hear this news. 'Difficult' is an understatement. This fam will be lifting up all those who will be missing Tim. Love you.
I always took this song to be about how the world changes people - we all start off as little fat babies and eventually become the people we are, for better or worse. It's an odd reflection of innocence that even the worst people in the world were once little fat babies and perhaps conditioned into their acts. Good art makes you think
I remember learning that Mark died and about how he did. Even though I've only been a fan of his for two years now I feel like I have lost a good friend or even an idol. His uniqueness, musical ability and the range of emotions he expresses made him my favorite artist of all time, and the only one I know who's actually an artist, not a rock star. just a normal guy. He inspired me to find something happy and good in every situation and emotion and i fight my own struggles everyday knowing that "it's a sad and beautiful world" and that the world can never just be one of those things...
@theantibodie damn. 2 brilliant, 2 daring! artists who both decided they'd had enough. I will enjoy and appreciate what they gave us which was SO much of themselves.
I'm pretty sure this song is about Vic Chesnutt. The Christmas tree reference (Vic died on Christmas day) and the line borrowed from his song " Myrtle" "It was bigger than me and I felt like a sick child dragged by a donkey, through the myrtle"
I've driven through the neighborhood where part of this was filmed on a couple of occasions. Don't go there - it won't do anything positive for anyone's world view. All the people who call it home were once innocent children too, and now one can only wonder if they ever even did anything to deserve the punishment the world must've dealt them.
@@denalynprice WoW, um BR que curte Sparklehorse... Se tiver interesse, olhe a playlist que eu fiz em homenagem ao Mark, no meu perfil. Está com o nome de "RIP MARK LINKOUS".
@cdovik ha i never got to meet him but one night they had a bit to drink and they tried cooking burgers in the toaster which didnt work so they put them in under one of the lads staying with them's bed sheets. just stuff like that nothing to crazy. he knew my sisters boyfriend (now husbands) through a band he was in at the time in london. he was supposed to be a good laugh. he only visited them a few times. wish i was old enough to understand at the time.
Did you save your wisdom teeth? Did you burn your Christmas tree? He got dragged by a donkey Through the dust and the myrtle But he was once a little fat baby Did you lose your [fatty?] in the bath? Did you make the city slickers laugh? He got dragged by a donkey Through the glass and the myrtle But he was once a little fat baby Did you burn your wisdom teeth? Did you save your Christmas tree? He got dragged by a donkey Through the switches and the myrtle But he was once a little fat baby

It is impossible to explain the greatness of this song
Absolutely beautiful. I had the good fortune to see Sparklehorse live twice in the UK. What a genius he was......
Probably my favorite sh song.

***** Thanks Kevin. Though I miss him still, God has given me peace about his death. Others not as much. Thank you very much for the prayers, brother.
I hope things have gotten a little easier. I hope his daughter and her mother are doing okay too. May he rest in peace

I like this interpretation. Mostly for being positive :)
Dude, this song almost made me cry.
I can't remember the last one caused this sensation.
So sad, so beautiful, so perfect.

One of my favorite all time albums
The string interlude in the middle of this song is just heartbreakingly gorgeous.
Goodbye, Mark. Thank you.
Both sad and beautiful, the simplicit observation that we are all born perfect... and then the world fucks us all up....I think.
One of my favorite Sparklehorse songs. Beautiful!
yes,sad and beatiful!

Vic wrote the song with Mark.
I've heard this one is actually about Vic Chesnutt. RIP Mark, you were too good for this world.
Terrible news. Such a loss. This is one of the best songs ever.

A poem
Mark stayed with my sister and her husbandin Dublin during the 90's. She has a few funny stories for that time
tell them?
Em uma manhã de terça-feira; o céu nublado, tempo frio. Iniciando a rotina e doando meus primeiros 3 minutos e 43 segundos, a esta canção.
éh uma das melhores!!
descanse em paz,Mark Linkous.

@nickatdusk I wondered that, too. I don't really know. I sort of hope so.

@loofah76dbk Beautiful!!!! I'm going to start doing that! Thanks :)
@mguygh Anything to share? Just a little something would be nice.
Moran and Molloy
I prefer to the live more than music video. It is not the pure Sparklehorse.
Beautiful song. The video's a bit too obvious, though, don't you think? Sparklehorse should be a lot more mysterious than this.
@mguygh Sorry for not replying sooner. Funny story though ;) Thanks for sharing.

i don't have any i'm afraid, nothing worth telling to be honest
This was co-written with Vic Chesnutt. Too sad.
I think it's about George Bush....'He got dragged by a donkey
Through the glass and the myrtle'
that's actually a quote from the song "Myrtle" by Vic Chesnutt.
Isn't this song supposed to be about Jesus Christ?
:(
Sad.
