But also, when you've been cheated on, you feel "less than" even if mentally you know that's not the case. So to see someone so damn fine and committed get cheated on feels like... "ill never be Good enough to keep a partner", even if logically you know that her getting cheated on wasn't about her at all. But those 2 thought processes are very similar. "I can't do anything to stop a cheater from cheating on me (feeling vulnerable and powerless)" vs "I can't do anything to stop a cheater from cheating on me (feeling empowered with the knowledge that its that person's flaws not yours that caused the cheating)".
Both emotions are equally valid. In this case it's just situationally appropriate to go with the self depreciating/deprecating comment.

And people who don't cheat in relationships have a correlation to a specific personality trait of valuing honor and duty. So if you're just being in a relationship with someone watch and see how they treat servers and wait staff and other people they come across. If they treat those people badly they WILL cheat on you. Because that's the same personality trait causing that behavior. And that's why cheaters don't change. Because you can't change your personality. Your personality is set in stone. It's incredibly difficult to make even the smallest lifestyle changes such as eating healthier or exercising more. Most people fail in that. Changing a huge personality trait is basically impossible. Of course there are the people who only treat waitstaff well because it reflects badly on them if they don't and they have such a huge ego. Those people will also cheat on you but it's much harder to tell if they have that personality trait or not.
