    Thank you for the info! I stumbled on your vlog while researching what to do in Costa Maya. I wasn't interested in any of the available excursions through the ship. I'm SO glad I found your channel! I looked up Maya Chan through other sites & there were tons of positive reviews. I contacted Maya Chan and they have availability when we go in Dec. 2023. Our family is really excited about going to Costa Maya now. We weren't so sure before finding this video. Thanks again!

    Been to Maya Chan twice...Love...Love...LOVE that place! My wife and I had a massage there as well....from the same petite little lady. It is definitely our favorite beach place. Yes, the water is a bit murky...but that can't be controlled by them. Not really a snorkel destination anyways. We truly enjoyed the extra personal care...we felt very pampered. One time was our anniversary trip...and they made it super special for us.

    Hey I stumbled across you guys by accident and just LOVE your vlogs!!!!
    Ive literally been binge watching!!! I find these port ones very informative and you've given me some great ideas! My family and I have been on the Magic and Glory and are now hooked on cruising lol however we are creatures of habit so to speak and so we are sticking with carnival for the time being haha... unfortunately we are from Scotland so it's quite costly to get the actual port to set sail! We are super excited to be booked on a b2b on Mardi Gras in Oct '21 though and we're getting some great advice from your vids for some cool free/frugal stuff to do! Thank you!!!

    Loved Costa Maya. We walked outside the port and took a Taxi ($2 per person) to the town. We went to YaYa beach club. Made reservations online. We did the a la cart but they have an all inclusive option. Had an amazing beach day and then explored the local shops in town. Took a taxi back all with no issues. It was a great day. Maya Chan was fully booked for the day or we would have gone there. Our cruise had been rerouted from an Eastern to Western Caribbean due to hurricanes. So we didn't have a lot of time to plan. But loved and highly recommend Yaya Beach Club. It was a great second choice.

    My first cruise in January 2006 on the RC Jewel of The Seas stopped there. I agree, there was NOT much at all there back then lol we did a snorkeling excursion and walked thru the fishing village. Great vlog as always! 👍

      I remember we just walked around the port, which had a decent amount of shopping though I don't remember the craft village being there, and we watched a dancing show on the stage not too far from the smaller pool that used to be there, hah...

    Costa Maya felt like a maze to keep you in. We booked an outside excursion and we had a heck of a time finding the exit. We booked Chaccoben thru Tucan Tours. (It's pronounced Chock-Cho-ben). It was fantastic! Then we went down to the town afterwards for lunch. We didn't explore the port area much. Next time we go, we'll probably stay near the port. The port area felt so crowded because there were 4 ships in port.

    • @parodeejay
      @parodeejay  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's surprisingly difficult to find your way out of there, and you're right... it feels like it's done on purpose. The folks at Maya Chan told us that the port basically does want you to stay in there and patronize all the folks inside, hah... but we did manage to escape!! :P

      You can definitely make a decent day out of just browsing shops, swimming, and watching the roving performers. I like a port where you don't necessarily need to have any sort of plan when you show up, ha ha... just wander and explore!! :P

      We've never done a ruins tour from Costa Maya, but it appears that the closest ruins would be at Chacchoben. You could either find a ship tour with that name in the description, or we liked the look of an independent tour called the "Mayan Experience Tour" through The Native Choice, but we haven't been able to experience it ourselves as of yet. www.thenativechoice.com/tours/mayan-experience-tour

    I’m just curious, how are the people in these ports surviving without the cruise ship business? I cruise a lot and these people aren’t wealthy and it seems like most of their income is derived from tourism. Thanks for your videos.

    • @parodeejay
      @parodeejay  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sure they're struggling just as many of us here are... hopefully their governments have unemployment systems and stimulus systems and whatnot in place for them, but I don't know for sure. Anyone relying on tourism is definitely hurting right about now!!
