I just realized that I'm giving a thumbs up to The Handyman videos at the start of the video, before I've even seen 30 seconds. Great content, keep it up!
I've been working as a maintainence repair tech for about 5-6 months. love the work I do but your videos help me out a lot. ive gotten a lot of questions about this tbh
Very helpful video, thank you HM - just tucked my 38 under the sofa cushion. In case my TV tries to kill me. (Seriously, people appreciate these TV hanging tutorials. esp for choosing the most practical easy to install mount. The options are confusing. Also, just watched a good video about hanging heavy items on walls with off-center studs. Just screw a narrow 17"-18"" wide wood plank to the wall studs, then attach the heavy fixture to the plank, centered. Very simple strong solution. (This idea works for hanging heavy tools too. And you only drill two holes in the wall, instead of drilling multiple hanging hook holes across the wall.)
Im using that same mount for my 55" in my room. I was worried originally that the joints wouldnt hold up over time but it seems pretty solid still after a year!
This guy is gud!I was a framing and finish Carpenter my whole life. These does a lot of the framing and sheetrock is subbed out to Carpenterters, who don't care one bit if there blocking or even if a stud is 16" on center. They're selfish goal is to get in and out as fast as possible and believe me, they are experts at one thing only and that is cutting corners. Also be sure the contractor shows you a copy of his insurance.
I have put up mounts that weigh more than the darn TV! Also I put some painters tape on the TV and the wall so I know where the hooks need to line up to when lifting the TV on the hanger bars. Especially good when you are lifting a 55inch!
You’re awesome handyman. I just bought an old tivi model in 2010- 42 inches. It is quite heavy for me. Can I do it by myself? Please give me some advices for what type of wall mount for it.
Also a good way to find a stud is to use your flashlight and shine it sideways on the wall. It will show where the drywall screws are from the light shining across them.
Nice job. Alternatively you may have put the spacers on the outside of the plate so it doesn’t push the tv out further and keeps it as low profile as possible.
forgive me if i missed it but shouldnt one turn off the power to that outlet before stickin screw drivers in there? LOL im no electrician but Im definitely novice. So this is a serious question
It's nice to see that your trick is one that I have used for many years. I was hoping to learn something new but this is such a simple job.. thanks for taking the time to make the video.
Hey Handyman! Those mm holes are a set of standard sizes that the TV / Monitor guys came up with. They call it a VESA pattern (Video Electronics Standards Association). There's a couple charts out there. 'F-n ya wanted ta luuk em up. I had to get a "Pro-Grade, Roll-Up, mearsurn' stick" with the mm's on it. Thanks for the vids!
Hi, I live in a house where there are no studds to mount my 43" TV...I plan on using anchors with cement screws.. also I want to put an outlet behind the tv and a port for Hdmi/other cables.. what ideas do you have
You are the best. Always hit all the nails but never over do anything~! I happened to have same exact mount in the kitchen~! :D By the way, I would put the space the other side of the mounting panel to make the TV hangs closer to the wall. Thanks as always~! :D
Thank you for Sharing!! when i first opened the box to install, Everything looked like a thousand peices!!! until i looked and followed through with your video that i was able to install my wall mount!!! Thank You thank YOu!!
this may sound like a follish question but if one wanted to pull the tv out while still attatched to the wall mout to bring the tv closer is that an option ? i have a small room and i would be wathing tv from my bed so i want to some what bring it closer by having the tv extend out lol i hope this make sense
Hope you have a job using foam insulation kits soon. I have a job coming up in a mobile home where I'm going to try the kit from menards. Its a box store if your not familiar with them. Kit does 220 sq ft. For 365. Dollars. I'll let you know how it goes for me. If anyone else has any suggestions using these kits I would appreciate any suggestions using these. Ty
Aren’t most electrical boxes on the right side of the studs? Because most people are right handed and it makes it easier to nail them in if they’re on the right side?
Once you ‘hang’ the tv onto the mount it looks like you did no other screws/tightening/etc. does it just ‘hang’ there so to speak? On and off just by lifting it up and off?
When measuring the wall mount to the top of the TV, I like to put a level perpendicular to the TV on the top. While not perfect, it usually gets me within 1/8 inch which passes the eyeball test. I have wall mounted with this specific mount. It was ok, not my favorite. Reason being, in situations where the center of the TV is directly between 2 studs (when centering on any given wall, that TV center point can be anywhere in relation to the studs) that can mean 7 or 8 inches of side torque, and IF owner wants to move the TV out and back, it will often be uncentered when they try to return it to more flush position with the wall. Not that I have found a "perfect" mounting system yet... just know a different mount might be preferred depending on stud-to-TV center situation. Please also be VERY careful with the mounting screws that go into any TV back... if too long they can Crack the TV, ruining it completely. Finally, make sure any wires run behind a wall in order to hide them should be rated for use behind the wall. I tend to prefer installing a new outlet hidden behind the TV. It takes longer, but depending on Codes, it might be considered incorrect to have a standard TV power cord run behind the drywall. As with any of these, every install is unique... so the most important tool is your brain!
From a woman…trick to finding studs…..button magnet! Run it under your fingertip until the magnet grabs the nailhead or screw head that is in the stud….I’m a 60+ year old grandma and have used this trick for 40 years…works every time!
Lees single mount monitor brackets are basically only useful if they wouldn’t stud is in the perfect location for you to mount the monitor on they don’t have a good weight bearing ability and they stick out too far from the wall giving tremendous leverage against the wall where a kid or someone who’s not paying attention could very easily pop that monitor off the wall I always like the brackets that have two contacts to the wall which are the flat mouse if you need it to move around get a good quality articulating wall mount but avoid the single contact Braket
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. There's quite a bit of helpful information here, but also a few things that are not for a newbie to TV wall mount installation. We're lucky not to be one of those people 😊
@thehandyman this is how I would love for all your videos to be. You are awesome at what you do. I like the dumbed down instructions. This I've done many times. Your recent tile video was very detailed as well. Thanks

@@TheHandyman1 But it is in a stud. My tv would've fallen by now if it wasn't. Do you think that maybe it's because my walls are textured, so it doesn't sit totally flush with the wall?

Been a little while. I need to find me a few holes
Lol I thought about the same thing 😂😂😂
What kind of holes are we looking for?
Your hole is loose
Lmao!!😂😂😂
Did you overlook the 4" drop to account for owner wanting top of TV 4” below the plug? Your 5 1/2" drop should be 9 1/2".

Use a stud finder to find studs to make holes then mount it
I use to do it this way but I now eliminate the pre-drill and the need for socket adapter by using GRK cabinet screws. Faster. Simpler. Thoughts?
Keep up the hard work and thanks for the awesome content stay safe and take care

#underratedcomment 😂😂
What if you wanted this style tv mount and the tv to be mounted in the direct center of the wall where there was no stud
You are out of luck
Or you cut the wall out and install framing to support it.

looking at the ports on the back of the tv, how old is that set?
10 maybe 20 years
QUESTION!! how much do you charge to mount a tv the same size as this video??????
Once you ‘hang’ the tv onto the mount it looks like you did no other screws/tightening/etc. does it just ‘hang’ there so to speak? On and off just by lifting it up and off?

Thank you Ron Swanson
Great video a lot of innuendos makes it funny and entertaining
Sorry but what kind of bolts were those put in the walls
My issue is I have a small wall I out dead center but when I told tv it goes to the side of wall, and not center of where I screwed bracket
Can I use this type of mount on a 50” smart TV?
Brother. Your video is simply great. It’s helped me out. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you sooooo much for this video !! I was so frustrated when I couldn’t mount my tv then I came across this video !!!
