I'm an old earth creationist, but i hardly ever want to argue with a young earth creationist about my position or try to falsify thier position, I'd rather argue and falsify people who teach heresies like Mormonism, Jehovah's witnesses, New Age and Progressive christian doctrines, as Children of one God arguing over the age of a fallen and temporal planet which will someday be destroyed and recreated by God is simply absurd.

The earth has already been destroyed several times., but there is no ONE God. There are many bc that is what our souls strive to be...Gods. Our souls are on average millions of years old. It has lived many lifetimes. The term God is a state of being(higher wisdom) after many lifetimes(after many death cycles and rebirths). That is the true meaning of what Jesus meant. "You must be reborn to enter into the kingdom of God(s)...not singular God. You will not find the truth of Jesus' teaching in any canonized bibles bc they have all been corrupted by the Roman church thousands of years ago.

The earth has been through MANY destructions AND renewals AND repopulations...for over millions of years. The idea that the earth is only 6,000 years old is ridiculous. Layers of the earth's crust is ab 7,000 years old bc of its renewal, but the actual earth is over 400 BILLIONS years old and intelligent life has been walking on the earth for over a 100 million of those years.

Verse 1 and 2 of Genesis 1 do, in fact, imply that the earth was void and formless for an undisclosed period of time!
But then verse 3 introduces light, day, and night, or in other words, the sun.
So, how does this help make sense of an old earth with fossils that are very, very old?

The idea that God created the universe "mature" with probably multiple thousands of incorrect indications of age is to me out of line with the character of God. Scripture tells us that the heavens declare the glory of the Lord. But this YEC view is happy to paint God as a great misrepresenter of evidence rather than admit the old universe view suggested by Genesis 1:1-2.

Inspired men wrote God's truth using the language, expressions, perspective and knowledge of their current time period. The God that can bring a hailstorm to kill Joshua's enemies could also slow the rotation of the earth. The same God can make blind see, contracted cripples run, lepers be healed and the dead raised.

Wow! Great content! Dr. McLatchie is blisteringly intelligent. I loved this video! For the record, I’m a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Our position on the age of the earth / universe is as follows: the age doesn’t really matter. Old. Young. Doesn’t really matter. Following Jesus’s teachings is the thing we should be most concerned with, because the age of the earth doesn’t get us to heaven, but following God’s commandments combined with the redemptive power of the atonement and the resurrection are what saves us.

The problem is, you guys have the wrong Jesus. The Bible teaches Jesus created all things, whether in heaven or on Earth, whether invisible or visible. Mormons teach that Jesus and Lucifer were brothers. God says in the Bible that before him no gods have formed nor will there be any after him, that there are no other gods but him, he knows of not one God. But Mormonism teaches that God was one a man that progressed to become a god, and that he had parents that were gods and there were millions of gods before them, and that we can become gods ourselves and rule over our own planets. That is absolute blasphemy. Mormonism is a lie straight from Satan himself, repent and trust in the true Jesus, the Alpha the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the first and the last!!!

@academyofchampions1 Jesus had two natures, divine and human. His human nature was born 2,000 years ago, his divine nature existed before the world began. To not make a distinction between his two natures is sign of someone who doesn't understand the Bible very well.
And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.
      John 17:5 NIV
In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.
      Philippians 2:5‭-‬7 NIV
Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death-that is, the devil- and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.
      Hebrews 2:14‭-‬15‭, ‬17
Jesus Christ was a man born 2,000 years ago. He had to eat, sleep, use the bathroom, etc. But his spirit has always existed, he has no beginning.
Jesus created everything, and the Bible even calls him God.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
      John 1:1‭, ‬3‭, ‬14 NIV
**while we wait for the blessed hope-the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ
      Titus 2:13 NIV

      2 Peter 1:1 NIV
**Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”
John 20:28 NIV (Jesus did not rebuke Thomas for calling him God)
The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
      Colossians 1:15‭-‬17 NIV
“This is what the Lord says- your Redeemer, who formed you in the womb: I am the Lord, the Maker of all things, who stretches out the heavens, who spreads out the earth by myself,
      Isaiah 44:24 NIV
And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says, “Let all God’s angels worship him.” But about the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom. He also says, “In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. You will roll them up like a robe; like a garment they will be changed. But you remain the same, and your years will never end.”
      Hebrews 1:6‭, ‬8‭, ‬10‭-‬12 NIV
So I said: “Do not take me away, my God, in the midst of my days; your years go on through all generations. In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded. But you remain the same, and your years will never end.

The hair on his head was white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters.
      Revelation 1:14‭-‬15 NIV
Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens. Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies
      Psalms 8:1‭-‬2 NIV
But when the chief priests and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful things he did and the children shouting in the temple courts, “Hosanna to the Son of David,” they were indignant. “Do you hear what these children are saying?” they asked him. “Yes,” replied Jesus, “have you never read, “ ‘From the lips of children and infants you, Lord, have called forth your praise’ ?”
      Matthew 21:15‭-‬16 NIV
“I (God) the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve.”
      Jeremiah 17:10 NIV

**For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
      Isaiah 9:6 NIV
YHWH is also called the Mighty God in Jeremiah 32:18 and Isaiah 10:21. In all three verses, including Isaiah 9:6, the Hebrew word for “mighty” (gibbor) is used.
God is the first and the last

“This is what the Lord says- Israel’s King and Redeemer, the Lord Almighty: I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God.

To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”
      Revelation 1:4‭-‬5‭, ‬8 NIV

I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. Joseph Smith was a conman. He was charged and found guilty of glass looking/scrying, which is divination, the same as using a crystal ball or tarot cards. He was supposed to find treasure for a man who hired him, using his glass looking but he never found treasure, he conned the man. He took his first wife, Emma Hale, when her father was gone, after her father told Joseph he couldn't marry his daughter. Joseph took her and run off and eloped with her. Joseph married around 40 women, 13 of them were already married, that's called adultery. Wait, I thought Joseph Smith was supposed to restore the church, well he ripped off a man by getting paid to find treasure he never did, using divination. He stole Isaac Hale's daughter and run off and eloped with her after Isaac told him he couldn't marry her. And he married 40 women, 11 of which were already married to other men. God sure picked the wrong one to restore the apostate church. BTW, Jesus said the gates of hell would not prevail against the church. If it went into total apostasy like Joseph Smith claimed, Jesus would've been wrong.
And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.
      Matthew 16:18 NIV
Joseph Smith claimed he Dug up the golden plates and was attacked by a man on his way home with the plates. He fought off the man and kept going then was attacked by another man. He fought him off kept going was attacked by a third man. Keep in mind, joseph smith had a bad leg which caused him to limp, and was carrying golden plates that weighed a minimum of 75-100 lbs, while fighting off three different men on the way out of the woods where they were buried. The crazy part is, Joseph Smith didn't even use the golden plates to write the book of Mormon. He used his urim and thumin. Joseph Smith also bought an Egyptian scroll that he used to write the Book of Abraham. (At that time no one could understand Egyptian because the Rosetta Stone had not been discovered). Years after Smith died, they found the scroll in a library. The Church of Latter Day Saints got Egyptian language experts to examine the scroll so they could prove that Smith was a true prophet.
The scroll found to say something completely different from what Smith said. It had nothing to do with Abraham, it was the death rites of a man named Horeb. Smith was found to be a fraud and a liar. Joseph Smith also prophesied that many would come for him, but none would succeed, but they did, because he was killed in jail. The most fascinating thing about everything I've written is that you can find all this information on the official Latter Day Saint website. If you don't believe me, investigate it yourself!! Joseph Smith was a conman, a false prophet. Mormons use a book (The Holy Bible)that contradicts their entire doctrine. I can show you many passages in the Bible that contradict Mormon beliefs. You need to be honest with yourself and search the truth wherever it leads. Mormonism is a false religion. Joseph Smith, the founder, was a false prophet. You can use your own website and prove it. Turn to the one true Jesus Christ, not the brother of Lucifer, but the one who created ALL things including Lucifer. And who is God alone, there are not millions of gods like the heresy that Mormonism teaches. You even believe you will become gods one day and rule your own planets. That's the same lie Satan used to deceive Eve, that they would become like God. No one will ever be like God, that's pure blasphemy on the highest level. Wake up man! Do your research and you will see that I'm right. Look up all these topics on the Latter Day Saint website and use the internet to help you research this. You will see that I'm right. Good luck, that is if you are interested in the truth, wherever it leads.

Time was not created until Genesis 1:5 when light and dark were separated and God declared the first day. Before that verse, time as we understand it did not exist at all. Everything before verse 5 could have been done in an instant meaning no time expired at all or it could have been an eon which is defined to be an indefinitely long period of time.
Since God is an infinite and all powerful being He could have made everything aged to begin with which would make carbon dating meaningless since the physical atoms that combined to make rock would contain decayed isotopes and non decayed isotopes. Alternatively, God could have set the initial clockwork of the physical universe in place and allowed it to move or "age" for an eon which would be how ever long He needed for it to get to where it got to when verse 2 of Genesis 1 began. God does not recon time in the way that we do. He created the time reference specifically for us.
Death did not exist in God's creation and neither did thorns because those were a direct result of sin. Both death revealed by animal fossils and thorns found in plant fossils are in the fossil record so those things can not be millions of years old because they are within the daily cycle of the creation week. However, the minerals that the fossils are comprised of can contain non-decayed and decayed isotopes in what ever ratio they were created with or date back to the actual time of the earth's creation in its original form.
I really don't understand why this is such a debated and controversial subject.

The Bart Ehrman type arguments against the New testament are overblown by him. For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Why? Do you want discourse only if people agree with you?

It’s unfortunate that your comment resembles perfectly how Dr. McLatchie describes the animosity of young earthers against old earthers.

I agree, this doctor has no business talking about Christianity when he showed us he is completely ignorant. He stated in the video that animal death entered the world before man. Seriously ? So according to this scientists God created animals that would die, get cancer, eat each other, etc. This is not the creation of Genesis 1 that was good, but some man made unbiblical doctrine. Death entered the world as a result of Adam’s sin, but according to this scientist death precedes sin. This man should have never been allowed on this podcast, and if he was the host should have rebuked him and told him old earth creationism is incompatible with the Scriptures. Old earth creationism teaches that there is a full fossil record with plenty of death that precedes man’s appearance on earth or man’s creation. This is a biblically untenable position, contradicted by the apostle Paul who clearly teaches that death entered the world as a result of sin, and did not precede sin as these scientist claims.

If you have truly read the bible in its hebrew language, you would know that God did not create the complete earth in 6 days; just part of the existing earth . Only the top layers of the earth(the terrain) is really 7,000 years old. But, the actual earth itself is billions of years old. ONLY Genesis 1:1 says that "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth", but in THAT one verse it NEVER says how long it took initially. Then, in the next verse,, 1:2 it reads "but, then it (the earth) BECAME without form" obviously something happened resulting in the earth's surface being destroyed. Yes, the bible even says that Elohim created mankind to REPLENISH the earth and repopulate it! WHY?

Tangent time, Ooh this gets me fired up, In a good way, I love my brothers from both views, these don't effect the gospel , as of now, But... Jesus's greatest enemy was DEATH which he came to defeat and if it wasn't the result of sin then it wouldn't be an enemy God never intended, The cross does come into this issue, Adam was the first man, Caused sin to enter the earth , and death after, With old earth, Death exists before, Which,,, No just no, you can circumvent this with many inputs into the texts but plain reading like a child ... Its a clear 7 days, its clear that women was created after adam from his rib and it was literal, he wasn't planted there as a human place holder, EVE was saved in her childbearing Becaue they needed to multiply and be fruitful, Its not plausible given death and that there is no indication to call God a confusing author by not taking it to its logical conclusion, If plain reading was incorrect then you can say that about everything forward, Including the cross, We have jesus rising and the graves being opened, Our god also has an enemy hte devil , Old earth came on the scene as a 1, 2 punch against christianity in the 1700s BEFORE carbon dating etc USING THE same arguments, It assumes previous process's continued unto today, which they did not, We know God altered the earth merely with the flood and the dominoes that fell from there. It is very ciritical actually, Scientific evidence is biased and if you delve into that , what is science, is science immune to bias against christianity, For a while they wouldn't admit a flood because simply the bible said so, Now it is accepted by a lot , We ALSO know no one thought the earth was flat since 3 bc, You can look this up , Around the same time as old earth books came out, It was pat of a campaign to move chrisitans and science as not equal. People knew the earth was round YES from back to 3 bc there are paintings too from back before, The flat earth didn't come around after 3bc although maybe before 3bc people didn't know, But it came about in a TEXT by anti christian scientists that claimed this, You have the wrong premise, so like many in science, come to the wrong conclusion, Its perfectly fine to come against scientific evidence, It doesn't teach the sun explicitly revolving around the earth, there are explanations for that as well, It also wouldn't matter WHAT it looked like to past people, GOD knew the entire time, and he wrote the book, He showed job everything above in the universe, Job knew, Some knew. Three are so many holes you can just POKE on through, Let every man be a liar but god be true, It doesn't matter what man wants, IS satan not the false ruler of this world, does he not get told he is the father of all lies... And he is great at it, So why would is it that these topics are what make people leave christ or never beleive, Because evolution, the age of the earth , mistrust of the literal translation besides the metaphores outright said as metaphores, all hurt christianity, It is silent on the age of the earth, great, Doesnt' mean old earth is right, We have the generations, that are also not taken literal from old earth creationists, There will be those who claim christianity and they will fall away, These issues cause people to deconstruct, Because the word is bond wiht God, If we cant keep it we can't trust it.
Also The Yod argument isnt the main argumetn, Because evening and morning one day its the one time it is used to seperate a literal day to non literal day. Its like God was trying to be concrete and say Not just a day, IT IS EVENING AND NIGHT ONE DAY.... Be like a child comes to mind, so many verses come to mind. Its sad , just sad honestly , I WOULD BELIEVE whatever God wanted and was true, Also our dating tech is easily faulty, Those who left that field say its baffling how you are not allowed to deviate from just reading the tech, you have to start with an idea , a premise and assumption, Why believe it is old...
And why care. , We care because there is no death to take mans word above what God said plainly. God also made the Gospel plainly, Radiometric dating methods have literally the same issue with bias, and it is not precise, and has dated plenty of things we know to not be as old, A volcano rock recently erupted and formed, Dated 30 thousand, a branch known age, dated 100 thousand, THERE ARE REASONS!
