On Monday Hera plays strategies that are considered less competitive/viable in the current state of the game
@@SupaChinido meta = strategies considered to be the best, so off-meta are strategies that are quite, hm, interesting but not exactly top, so MAA rush for example (btw it's my favorite type of rush XD)

Wanted to come to the comments and write that. Up man!
A lot of players think that walls are bad in Imperial age and automatically delete any walls on the battlefield, but if you have siege and your opponent has more cavalry than you have ranged units with ballistics, you need walls to keep your siege alive.
It's slow, but siege weapons are slow so that's fine. And no one ever does it, so it would fit with the "off-meta" theme. You just keep building more walls in a tunnel, bringing your siege closer and closer towards your opponent's base. Cavalry can't kill siege if it can't reach the siege.
※ When making onagers, the walls need to be made of stone because of friendly fire.
@keithherron2705 Why couldn't it work on Arabia, though? If you made side walls too, resulting in a "ladder" that your forces "climb" toward your enemy.
Honestly a great game! Loved the constant raiding from T90 in the back fields with Hussars. Looked familiar... Plus you had the same amount of gold collected at the end. Did T90 resign when he ran out of gold?
T90 probably controlled the neutral golds and indeed resigned when he was running out while knowing Hera has 5 relics.
T90 loves his late-game cavalry raids, it's very much his playstyle
That was such a fun game. I don't remember last time I saw so many juicy SO shots. Game lasted really long considering how many SOs were there resulting in even more delicious BOOMs. T90 is really good too, nice to see him putting this much pressure when you go for off meta opening. I was fearing things could be doomed after longswords put you behind so much but you stabilized so well and game was very close after that.

I'd love to hear Hera's thoughts on this, but I think stonewalling would heavily counter a lot of Meta's, it'd stop raiding, slow down larger armies allowing you to position your own units, and buy time to build counter units, not to mention, even if you're sacrificing stone that would be used for castles, you can easily sell food and wood to buy the stone back, simply from the sheer amount of extra resources you'd be stockpiling by having a mostly un-touched economy.
I truly think it has its place in the pro scene to counter many modern meta-plays.
I tried messing around with stone walling but i have to say i dont like it. Too slow and too costly to get them up early, not justified until mid castle age imo
@@HeraAgeofEmpires2 I think the question also refers to this game, where you spent the stone on castles at a quite late stage of the game and still had to idle the economy a lot during the worst raids. I can imagine that it would be hard to get a complete stone wall up in the midst of hussar raids, though. Harder than building castles, because the halberdiers and siege can better guard multiple castle builders at once. Also, halberdiers will still be needed whenever the wall gets a hole.
So it makes some sense anyway that this chaotic form of defense is what peak performance looks like. As a perpetual low Elo non-legend, I would have to GG after barely a minute of such intense raiding, but you make it work, while simultaneously juggling onagers and whatnot. Absolutely incredible! 🤩
That chakram dive at the end against the SO was INSANE, i never realised how effective they are when used efficiently, if he hadnt lost so many shortly beforehand that could've been a game changer

hi hera. great game it was super intense & i watched the whole thing. i'm not sure if you know this but if you set your TC's rally point on empty farms (still green), as villagers are made they will automatically go to all the empty farms. i mention this because towards the end when you are spamming farms, you have lots of empty farms that had vills picked off. if you set the rally point on the farms, it will save you a little time since you wont have to lay down more farms really quick.

Yep, it was a typo. And G and T are right next to each other and his adrenaline was prob. a bit high so it's an understandable mistype. If T was where P is then I would say it'd be a little more sus lol.

Probally not much. T90 is a beast. I didnt watch it yet. But i het T90 puts up a good fight. I wouldnt expect T90 to win but it wouldnt shock me to much. It is off meta monday. So this isnt tournament Hera. Ask The Viper. What its like running into T90 on the ladder. T90 is probally use to looseing against top players by now.
Viper usually flexes on T90 he is a good player, but players like Hera and other pros regularly competing in S Tier tournaments are a different beast.

When T90 forced Hera starting spaming hussars he was kind of won gg
To be fair T90 was going for counter units since the very start, it was really tough. When he switched to Hussars, it was no longer possible to micro with infantry, own Hussars were needed to catch up.

Honestly, Hera is completely broken at this point. Devs need to give him a nerf in the next patch.
I'm 800 elo, but it would be such an honor to get paired with Hera and lose to him.
So i do have to say, ive watched both vods and videos on yt and t90 was correct about his lumber camo, for some reason it never showed flames from his perspective, so he never knew it was going down. I know its a minor thing but that early in the game each vil pick is so important and this resulted in a few vil losses

I guess off meta was just off meta openers until you start getting stomped by a caster. I was looking forward to something more my ELO, like trying to make longsword filled rams backed by scorps work in castle, before he gets enough frisbee bois out to matter.
It would have probably worked, it's T90, he wouldn't have expected it or reacted fast enough, probably.

There's off meta and there's just straight up bad play throwing away resources. Rams push had zero chance of achieving anything in this game.

Had you stayed off meta, and not gone to the classic Hera 100 farm hussar spam, you would've been finished off. Everyone knows the best player in the world can beat a caster, you should've just held the L. Still love your stuff and I'm not going anywhere, just seemed pretty petty to take something like this that seriously. You just won the biggest AoE tournament ever, nobody thinks T90 is better than you. 😄

T90 presumably randomed into gurjaras, he didnt pick them thinking Hera wont do anything meta. Thats not how it works if you watch Hera's streams. He tries different things he wouldn't usually try but if his opponent is countering it he can obviously change, and thats part of the fun, how he recovers from bad situations. Or is it your idea that if he picks a strategy he has to stay losing without adapting? I can almost say for certain that if Hera just lost messing around T90 would have hated winning. T90 literally says in his video he prefers when pro players take him seriously as he wants his wins to be earned
Just FYI Hera... T90 said the gtg was a typo. He was just trying to say gg. He was taking the L with respect, but was really happy with how well he did.
It could just as well have been an intentional typo. It's kind of a meme that I heard T90 himself talk about in an FFA cast. So it just becomes a funny variant of "gg", looking like a dumb excuse for quitting, while being plausibly deniable as a typo. 😅

Wow after watching from all perspectives, as much as yes t90 was going to lose, he actually outclassed hera in a few ways that gave him such an edge for a good chunk of the game. If he tidied up a few minor things and avoided a couple of accidental big losses it wouldve been a t90 win for sure
