By far my favorite cruise ship of all time, I've been on over a 100 cruises with Royal Caribbean, and the sovereign will still be my favorite. The reason being she was christened on my birthday January 15th 1988 I had the pleasure of sailing on her over 10 cruises plus her sister's monarch and majesty. Just a fabulous ship and a revolutionary ship that changes the cruise industry forever. I love you forever sovereign. May you rest in peace?
My honeymoon was on the Sovereign of the Seas, May 1988. When we embarked i was so confused. We entered a vast glittering room and it took me a moment or two to realize we were on the ship! It was so huge, sparkling, and beautiful!! I loved every single second of that cruise!!
I was going to a trade school In Pompano Beach and just happen to be driving around the area getting familiar and came upon the the cruise ships docks. I had never seen a ship like that before. It was just getting ready to depart on a cruise. I walked up to the edge of the dock and was amazed at how beautiful it was. I never got to cruise on it but it really left a impression. That was in early 1988.
I was 15 years old when I went to the Bahamas on the Sovereign of the Seas for my family reunion in 1997. What a fun time and one of my favorite memories with my extended family!
When my wife and I traveled on her during her Easter cruise, April 1996 people on board were talking like she was an old ship when in fact the Sovereign was only eight years old. That the Grandeur of the Seas would soon replace her seven day cruises. In 1996 she was immaculately taken care of and it truly was a great cruise. Four years later a ship almost twice her size would be the wave of the future. Bigger isn’t always better. I’m miss ships of her size that look like passenger ships. Not hotels on s keel.
My first cruise in 2004 to the Bahamas… I couldn’t believe how big it was, and now they make ships twice that size. None the less a great vacation with wonderful memories!
Thanks for posting this. With everything that followed in the 30 years since it's easy to forget just how important and revolutionary this ship was. I was lucky enough to sail on her in 2008 just before she left Royal Caribbean.
Thank you for sharing this, my favourite class of ships! Went on Monarch and Majesty during their inaugural summer seasons they were quite something. The oasis class ships of their time.
Amazing how high the standard of service and food and entertainment was on those RC Ships I was lucky enough to have travel on them even up to the voyager class ships just once , the beginning of the massive ships and the massive changes in standards .
I notice how much nicer the buffet looks, then the current ones we have. Sovereign, really must have been the ship of dreams, down to flambee dishes tableside, and well dressed staff & passengers!
I still remember this ship, my father who recently passed away in April /03/ 2024, He was on the Sourvergein of the seas in 1999 from Miami to the Bahamas.
I sailed on her in 1989. She was a classy lady. A mix of the old with a lot of the new style ! It is ashamed she is all scrapped out and gone forever. Rest in peace dear lady . Rest in peace.
You can see her on Google Maps in Elvis newbay in the Greek Islands near Athens. She's tied up next to a containership.See jets owns her now and there's talk about bringing her back as they brought back. One of the former cruise ships from costa hopefully she gets a return to life
I just found the majesty of the seas she's sitting in El.Fisa Bay near Athens and Greece.I noticed that c jets her current owner were thinking about putting the cruise ship back in service.I hope they do if they do I would go on her
Hard to believe this was the biggest cruise ship in the world when introduced. Also, no balconies. 😮 She really was beautiful though.. and the Centrum was a true innovation. Suddenly all new build cruise ships needed an atrium, or something close to it.
now she and monarch are both together to be scrapped. so sad. they are the last of what looks like a ship with a clipper bow and rounded stern not floating blocks.
agreee with you .. long gone are the days of the Festivale, Carnilave, Norway, Song of Norway and other fine ladies of the seas, now we have these huge floating apartment buildings.
So sad what happened to cruising. Everything is sound pounding, over crowded garbage. This ship when it first came out was about relaxing and having a good time and IF you wanted to , you can find loud music. Now I cannot walk though a ship on a. sea day without loud everything everywhere. Hated Oasis class, 100% disconnects you form the sea. No windows inside any public areas...
I sailed her in 2008, was my first cruise! Had a porthole and saw dolphins right in front of it! This is my most recent cruise: th-cam.com/video/EJ1Mpvj_a-g/w-d-xo.html
Anyone notice that the only black people shown are servers. Did black people not sail back then? Also, when did the Filipinos and Chinese take over as the servers and room attendants?
she was truly revolutionary for her time, and could've still easily compete with most cruise ship these days.
She’s a lot smaller than cruise ships of today

Our 1st cruise was on Sovereign of the Seas in 1994. Fun to look back at this ship after just getting off Anthem of the Seas a few days ago.

Was truly a beautiful ship, ahead of its time. It's a shame that it is now scrapped.
At least majesty survives

I was on her in Summer 2003. Was my first cruise.
Goodbye, Sovereign.
The most beautiful cruise I've ever saw.
I am sadden to see her gone forever. She was the ship that I went on my first cruise with (Halloween 1993). RIP Sovereign of the Seas.
I was a musician in rainbow loung in thisl time 😊👍🥂🍾🎷

Very true. She was revolutionary and jump started the mega cruise ship trend. Sailed on her in 2000 and enjoyed my time on her.
I was on her in 1998 and had the time of my life.
Thank you for sharing this, my favourite class of ships! Went on Monarch and Majesty during their inaugural summer seasons they were quite something. The oasis class ships of their time.
I have Been in the sovereing in 2017 and it was amazing
Sovereign was a beautiful ship RIP to this girl everyone will miss her a lot
I was on this ship from the maiden voyage out-of miami. I'm in the video working in the casino Xxx
Cool!
Nice memories when I work at the Soverign in the Caribbean. Bye bye my dear cruise.
Loved the cruise video!

Ow she was. Spectacular in every way. How I wish I could go back to the 90s. The golden age of cruising.
I vacationed on this ship when I was a little kid early in 2000s I was sad to hear that it was scrapped I never knew its history until just now.
As of February 15, 2021, Sovereign has been fully scrapped. May she rest in peace.
Scrapped in 2020
I joined the Sov as one of the ship's photographers that summer. Lots of familiar faces in the video and seeing it brings back lots of memories.
I still remember this ship, my father who recently passed away in April /03/ 2024, He was on the Sourvergein of the seas in 1999 from Miami to the Bahamas.
Thank you for the upload I love stuff like this
Your welcome. I'm glad you enjoy the channel!
She was a true cruise ship

Hermoso video, gracias,!!!🌹🍷😉👍
Still don’t understand how it’s more economical now to scrap it.
Sad to see the Monarch and the Sovereign go. I hope the Majesty of the Seas will last a couple more years.
Spoke too soon. Majesty is off to the rot yard.
@@nathanc5789 wait really? Dang
@@dilly738Majesty is laid up and will not be scrapped anytime soon. Someone else spoke too soon hm.

All that’s left of that class is the Majesty of the Seas

Back then they were all excited and happy when a new class of ship was released back then, but now a days people just don’t really care

This video is so thorough. Is there one like this about the Monarch of the Seas?
My first ship , feb. 1988
now she and monarch are both together to be scrapped. so sad. they are the last of what looks like a ship with a clipper bow and rounded stern not floating blocks.

I dislike both of you no ships today are a lot more luxurious
@Paris Smith well i guess your right
My first ever cruise....
For their size, the Oasis class ships are very good looking vessels and have rounded sterns.
Farewell Sovereign
Sailed on her twice ❤
This was when a woman was actually a woman and a sandwich was 5 cents. A beautiful time gone by that will never occur again.
4:55 I’ve never seen so much curved glass on a boat
Seems more like a ship. (its over 60 feet)
She was scrapped in 2020.
C’était un très beau bateau, quel dommage.

Totally agree. Miss these days. People cruised with class.
Really enjoyed that ship. Doubling the size of its newest sisters does nothing for me.

Looks like you had a great cruise on the Epic!
@@cruisenostalgia3751 We did! However, the Sovereign was way more beautiful as a ship - inside and out! Thank you for sharing!
Anyone notice that the only black people shown are servers. Did black people not sail back then? Also, when did the Filipinos and Chinese take over as the servers and room attendants?
Most of these guys are from the Caribbean islands, they like to be bar servers
I worked there 1993/4 and they were from norway, polish, colombian, philippines, french...
Sounds like the voice of Robert Stack
In late 80s they think a that is a large cruise ship ever build
Agora vai virar sucata 😔
Can't imagine being trapped on what is justa. floating mall. Nightmare!
sad
And now she lays to rot. Yay
