This is Teenage Fanclub meets The Byrds meets The Beach Boys meets The Beatles, and it slays! Hope the next album goes all the way with jangle-power pop

I can't stop listening to this song. This reminds me of when The Raspberries brought back The Beatles and The Beach Boys, and that was only a gap of a few years. This will hopefully introduce young listeners to those best bands of the past. These guys are indeed brilliant and amazing!

I totally agree. I've only just discovered the Raspberries due to people mentioning them in the comments, but I like them too, lol :-)

@@chattingtracksThey really sound like The Raspberries in this one. The late great Eric Carmen's voice was obviously an influence. Here's hoping they can reach the masses. Power-pop has a bad record in America. Instead, everyone seems to listen to cr*p over here. This should be a Grammy-winning song.

YEAH BABY !!! The Lemon Twigs are *staggeringly* talented musicians & composers. This new single is too good! I hear Raspberries, Beach Boys, and The Byrds all in the mix ... simultaneously vintage and evergreen ... fresh, fun, exciting music! Thank GOD for The Lemon Twigs !!! ♥♥♥

Yeah, Beatles & Beach Boys are the easy comparison...but by tracking their growth from around 2017, you must include Bowie, Queen, Big Star, and The Ramones.

Subbed. Yeh, I am an older 50 something and dig this tune and their 2nd one from this new album coming up. I listened to some of their older stuff as I started to explore them but this newer stuff is what I really digg. Well done young men!

let's just say they do a very good impression of the old beach boys (and a few other bands as well!) and leave it at that, shall we? that said, i am a new convert to this band - a hugely enjoyable listen, authentically talented performers, and a lot more depth than just rutles-esque pastiche merchants - check out the latest and previous albums for proof of that. they remind me of jellyfish from the early 90's, and i really hope they get more recognition and success...

I wonder if Eric heard this song? I lived in Cleveland, and Eric was a god there, as well he should have been. What an amazing songwriter, to say nothing of his singing and musicianship.

The D'Addario brothers are not only the best songwriters working right now, but in my opinion - and I do NOT say this lightly - are writing at the level of Lennon & McCartney. I couldn't be more sincere when I say that (and you have to have heard at least *most* of their songs and seen a few live performances to know that it's not hyperbole). The only problem they have is that they're too good for their own era, since this just isn't the kind of thing that makes the top 10 these days, so I don't think they're going to reach the level of success that they *deserve* (in other words, if these guys were writing in the 70's, they'd have been gigantic), but will at least be a successful band with a nice-sized fan base that'll allow them to keep making records. I want to say one thing that I think is crucial, here: there are some bands in the last decade or so who have tried to recapture that 70's "sound"; and some bands have - but merely in terms of some familiar chord sequences, arrangements and using certain amps, etc., etc. - the difference between *those* bands and the Twigs is that they're not merely getting the sound - they're writing SONGS (and not just a few, but a LOT of what they've written) that could not only sit side-by-side with the best of the era - but in many instances, RIVAL them. They have at least 10 songs, spaced through all of their records so far, that would have fit on any Beatles album and be seen as classics today. Lyrically, melodically, structurally, these guys are just brilliant pop songwriters already (I say already, as they're only in their 20's; to imagine what they'll be doing in another few years is almost mindblowing). And what I'm encouraged by is that while their first few records sounded a bit thin (I don't mean the songs, but the actual MIXES; they record their records themselves) compared to how the songs sound live, which was often disappointing, their LAST TWO records have sounded a lot stronger in terms of the mixes and arrangements. They're getting a lot better behind the console in the studio. While I still think an outside producer (perhaps Jon Brion if he could stay out of their way enough) could make them pop a little more, their improvement in the sound of the albums suggest they'll just keep getting better. I've been following these guys since their first record and it's just been thrilling watching their evolution. The fact that they came out of the gate, as teenagers, writing at the level they were, is just astonishing. While their vocals can be a little inconsistent (sometimes truly sublime, sometimes a little wonky), I actually appreciate that, as too many vocals these days are processed into oblivion. Those occasional flat notes or idiosyncratic left-turns in the singing - it's authentic and that's something there isn't a lot of lately. These guys are *genuine* songwriters in the purest sense and to me, at least, unmatched by anybody right now - and I look forward to everything they release. P.S. Re: the "direction" of the next album, watch a live performance from one of their recent shows of a song called, "Peppermint Roses" - it's more power pop like this; very 60's, but once again, a truly strong *song*, not just a "sound". Their past records were more Todd Rundgren-influenced, but it seems they've moved more towards a Byrds/Beatles/Beach Boys pop rock sound with these two new songs, and yeah, if they make a record of that kind of stuff, it's going to be killer. I don't yet think they've made an absolute all-timer album (although "Everything Harmony" came close - and every record has had at least 3 all-timer songs on them), but they definitely have one in them - and I have a sneaking suspicion that this next record might be it.

Yep, I agree. Their future in the music world is exhilarating, and I can’t wait to see what the boys come up with. The progression over the years has been truly staggering, and I hope more people discover this amazing band; not only are they changing themselves, but they’re changing music, and to be honest, this needs to happen for a long time :-)

I think all these people comparing them to the beatles or beach boys is such a lazy comparison. They have a ton of elements to their new AND old songs that you wouldnt hear from the beatles or beach boys.

What people mean is that they are writing and performing original songs at the level of Paul, John, and Brian. I am the BIGGEST Beach Boys fan in the world (along with a few million other people), but this song is every bit as good in its own way as "I Get Around" or "Fun Fun Fun," and it's almost as good as "The Little Girl I Once Knew." First time I heard a group that made me think "This is a classic song" that's going to be around for a long long time. I've already played it at least 30 times. I have never done that on the internet in my entire life.
