+HimKioo well in my opinion the lion fish evolutionary mindset is that it doesnt have a common enemy because no underwater creatures want to go poking araund a rather poisonous fish
So many people dislike this video because animals get killed in it, but they don't realise that there is an invasion of lionfish, who don't have predators and eat too much fish in the ocean. And those dislikers will most of the time just eat KFC or MacDonalds at the evening, but that "isn't meat from animals"...
Besides they're a very dangerous species with no natural predators and nothing to keep them in check off our shore line and do you think the way they use their barbs are kind to their prey?
The Flame Thrower They where released by humans in a part of the ocean where they have no predators, so actually they eat all young fish, but don't get eaten themself

Lionfish think they are on the top of food chain acting like the Godfather. Till hooman found that they are delicious. They found the new predator, hooman. Lionfish only can say "holy crab"
I studied biology and had reef fish studies for my thesis. One harvest time, first time I saw a lionfish (called "lawong" in my country) I was so amazed of its beauty I reached to caress it as the fisherman put it back in the water, in a split second the fisherman knocked my head and said "you almost died there!" ~Philippines
Great job all cooks divers and this video uploaders. Everyone should tell about this to friends and teach them that eating this fish is helping nature. Thank you all for doing this.
I wonder if there is a way to get one of the big seafood chains like Red Lobster onboard with this so they can make an even bigger demand for lionfish nation wide ?
I think one of the problems is that they are resource intensive to hunt so mass distribution would be hard. they are in shallow water so you cannot just troll for them. it takes a day to get a few hundred pounds which would probably not even last a day at a large chain restaurant
Actually it depends. A group of fish of the same species is fish. While a group of fish of different species is fishes. Its not wrong, but typically just fish for plural for everything is fine.
Apologies in case this is a stupid question, but I've read in the comments that they were introduced in America and are acting as an invasive species die to a lack of having natural predators. Where are they indigenous to?
Here in Belize we had the same problem but thanks to the fishermen (my dad included) we were able to control the threat! And by the way lion fish are delicious.
Ive always been pretty fascinated by Lionfish, ever since I was a kid I always wanted one. Kinda sad to see they’re being eaten. But if they’re an invasive species then I guess I can see why this is a thing
@@TheOldBlackShuckyDog This is a problem that we have created by introducing them into ecosystems that they hadn't evolved in. It is highly unethical to mass slaughter them when we ourselves are responsible for the situation. In this case there is no financial incentive to solve the problem efficiently, i.e. to mass capture and release into their natural habitat, after sterilisation. The problem, outside of ethics, with consuming them is that once there are sufficient rates of hunting to begin diminishing the population, there would be enough of a market to incentivise farming or repopulation once scarcity occurs.
When that diver was picking them off at first around that metal structure, I thought they were trash it was so dense. Glad to see use has been found. If we can drive the mighty Passenger Pigeons and Mammoths into extinction because they were tasty, I’m sure we can make them locally extinct here. Glad to see people willing to harvest them. Stay safe!
Now, if there are a few lionfishes who are easily frightened and tend to run away from humans, they would be likely to survive, breed, and create a new generation of "coward" lionfishes. Evoultion!
Actually, what we're seeing is lion fish moving to depths beyond the recreational limit of divers. As this diver noted, he was at about 120 feet and the recreational limit is 130 feet. But lion fish are going deeper still. If you go to popular dive locations, you'll see very few. But when you go anywhere off the beaten path, you'll realize just how bad the problem is. On the plus side, they make excellent ceviche.
Vegans and vegetarians would most likely disapprove because their empathy ability is probably better than most of us, but predatorism is crucial in maintaining the balance of ecosystem.
I've been a vegetarian for most my life and I 100% support killing invasive lionfish and other invasive species whenever necessary. The fact that they are able to do something useful (and, apparently, delicious) as well as profitable with the fish just makes it all the better.

Not gonna lie but they should make lionfish cheap so more people wants to eat them... Current rates for lionfish isn't going to make everyone want to eat them.
I was wondering about that too. Perhaps the venomous spines need delicate handling and the fish therefore require more time to prepare, so they can't sell them too cheaply either.
yeah, if you buy one for a saltwater aquarium it'll run ya a few hundred! they are very pretty lookin. oh well just get a snorkel mask and net and just catch a few off the coast in Florida! they won't swim away from ya

This fishes used to be just a pet fish but since then, some irresponsible pet owners let this fishes out in the open water after they have fully grown as one. Like how people take snakes as pets or tarantulas then when they grow up, they let them back into the wild, disrupting the balance of the ecosystem.
Notice how they don't swim away when one gets speared right near them? they're not used to being afraid of anything as they have no predators.
yeah man, that's probably the reason!
Nice observation!
true that

I bet these people who disliked this video thought that lionfish are meant to be kept as pets or in a public aquarium.
That’s how they would up in the gulf in the first place. They outgrow their tanks so they release them into the wild
😀😀😀
probably modern people who doesn't survive in a wild if we release them in an island 😂
Damn, I need to move to Florida and do that for a living.
sprdvx only licensed divers can do that
Well, it can't be that hard to get a license
Have fun gettimg attacked by a black tip reef shark in the process

In the wrong place, many species are pests. Just search for "invasive species"; unfortunately there's a lot out there already.
I’m glad this is happening. These fish are destroying literally the coral reef in Cancun. People disliking the video have no idea.

Holly Molly!!
What? Why would they deep fry the whole fish? Why not cut the venomous barbs off?!
Robert H They do. Only the top inch or so of the spines have the venom mechanism
the venom can bring so much pain. but is not deadly. and the heat is destroying the toxic. you're welcome
The ammount of heat used in cooking them, breaks apart the chemical compounds which make up the poison.
The venom will not affect you badly if you ingested it though.
