im not here to debate his legacy, and I have no ties to penn state, but I remember watching this intro/montage when it aired live got choked up and got major goosebumps. it still is one of the greatest intros I've ever seen.... the song choice, the clips, and Musburgers words/voice. thumbs up all around
It's hard to believe today has been 2 years since you passed. You had a major impact on my life and many others. You made PSU what it is today. You did more than coach football. You were a great man. No matter what anyone says you are the best NCAA coach. You are COMPLETELY INNOCENT in the whole scandal. No matter what 409 will also be etched in my heart as well as this date. We are because of Joe Pa. Rest easy Joe and thank you so much. Your legacy will never be forgotten! We Are...
This is the most winning college football coach in the history of the game. And an even better human being. Thank you Coach Paterno for everything you've done for me. And thank you coach for always standing up for the right thing in the face of discrimination, ridicule, and the disgusting cowards who still try to pin someone else's misdoings on you. Rest in peace coach. You are one of the greatest men this world has ever known right up there with MLK.
The world is better because of the changes Joe Paterno brought to education, athletics, literacy, and philanthropy. By the way-I'm a Wisconsin fan. I just recognize heroism when I see it.
Thanks for being a real sports fan and not ranting lunatic who throws all facts to the side to promote a self serving agenda. The world needs more sports fans like you. When I was at the bigten championship game I was so impressed with how nice the Wisconsin fans were after the game I told every Wisconsin fan I saw to hold their head high because they played one hell of a game. and I wasn't just saying that to be nice. You guys played tough. No shame in that.
WE will always LOVE YOU Coach Paterno, none of these comments even matter, we know better than to respond, because WE know who you ARE. Thank you for sharing your life with us. We are so fortunate to have had you as our coach. May you FOREVER rest in Peace, God bless you, WE ARE going to miss YOU!
I am 20 years old. I have had season tickets to the Iowa Hawkeyes for 17 of those years. I live for college football. Most of all, Iowa football. I know Joe Pa won't read this but many PSU fans will. You guys have a great coach. He is the face of college football. Don't take him for granted. He is a great coach and a better guy. We all here in hawkeye nation look up and respect Joe.
JoePa, you brought my father and I together. I thank you for the years you dedicated to Penn State. People will slander your legacy and I'm sorry for that...but I know you did your best for that University. WE ARE PENN STATE!
Thank you for everything, Coach! You will live on in the thousands of lives that you have touched throughout your life. This is the true statement of a man. RIP Joseph Vincent Paterno
No matter who you are a fan of, this man is a legend. I will never forget being in the student section and seeing him "jog" on to the field for the first time with the Blue Band playing. You knew you were in the presence of a legend.
Christmas 1986. We were visiting my grandparents in Lancaster PA. My grandpa asked me if I wanted to go to the Harrisburg Airport for a rally for the Penn State football team. That was the year they won their 2nd national title. I said yes and remember shaking hands with the likes of Joe Pa, Shane Conlan, DJ Dozier, John Shaffer and Harry Hamilton. Going to that rally was the most awesome experience of my teenage life. RIP Joe Pa. Thanks for the memories.
The picture that shows Joe in the press box looking at the students at 1:45 really shows the true side of Joe Paterno. Hes a great man and lives to help students and young people at Penn State. He cares about the students and they are very important ti him. He has given his life to supporting education and has donated millions of dollars. He built the library at PSU and has helped the school become one of the leading academic schools in the country, His legacy is far more than football.
We miss you, Coach! God bless, and thanks for all your contributions to Penn State: academics, loyalty, pride in our university, and oh yeah, winning a few football games along the way.
I will cry like a school girl when they say we have lost Joe Paterno. He will always be a hero to me. I'm a University of Georgia student and a Bulldog fan till the day I die, but I love Joe Paterno so much and am so thankful for him that tonight I consider myself a Nittany Lion. WE ARE PENN STATE. God Bless you Joe pa.
Thank you for your words regarding Joe Pa. It's people like you, fans and alumni from other universities, that validate what Joe meant, not just to Penn State, but to the game of college football. It wasn't just about football. Congrats on your National Championship, well deserved.
I'm an Alabama grad-but Joe Pa is a true living legend. What an amazing man. Not just a coach, or teacher, everything. Incredible. Every Penn State grad should be proud of Joe Paterno and the program he has created.
Those of you who choose to try to dirty Joe's name, will fail. He has a legacy, and those who he coached and those who met him were inspired. Joe was loved by all he met, including people who never met him, he is an amazing man who touched thousands of people.
I'm 31, was born and raised a PSU fan, I was probably in mom's stomach when I went to my first PSU game. To me, Joe Pa is College Football. His story is the stuff legends are made of. I can't help but be thankful that I've had the privalege to see this man in action. Something I will be able to tell my grandchildren. "I got to see this man in action" and how I will never forget the memories he's brought me and all the wonderful PSU fans.
Everyone of you posters can have your opinions, this is a free country. But when you have sports icons and living legends come on national television to show there respect and talk about what a great man Joe Paterno was, you better criticize every one of them for supporting JoePa and having nothing but amazing things to say about the man. How he changed there lives and lived. Long Live Joe Paterno, your Penn St. family will always love you!!!
this is the best video I have ever seen.. i could cry.. i am so fortunate to have attended penn state over the past four years and to have been in the presence of this great legend
God bless JoePa. Thank you for everything that you have done for the University I can now proudly call my home. I'm so thankful that I was able to watch the legacy coach his last season while I was a student at Penn State. He will forever remain in my heart and as a part of me. WE ARE..
IMHO he will be known as the greatest coach who has the done the most for any institution or franchise in the history of all of sports. ... and I'm a Michigan Fan
Simply love this man! I am 32, and lifelong Penn State fan... Thanks to my Uncle, I became a fan too young to remember, and Joe Pa is like a 3rd grandfather to me... What a vid, and the song goes hand in hand!!!
I cannot belive all the people that are bringing shame to Joe Paterno, he is one of the greatest men to ever live and has done so much for The Pennsylvania State University. Why would a man who cares so much about his University do anything to disgrace it. I stood on a stage at 8 years old crying for the loss of my grandfather, only to look out and see Joe was there, I know first hand from the friendship they had how wonderful of a man he is, and he doesnt deserve any of this.
Hollis Gaskill so much respect that you could look for the truth and not the popular belief that joe pa is a bad person, especially since you’re a buckeye fan
What an absolutely amazing piece. I didn't get to see this until yesterday afternoon since I was at the game, but I'm sure if I'd seen it live I'd have been floored.
This is an outstanding video, thanks for posting it so others could enjoy it. Joe Paterno is a fine man and it's impossible to thank him enough for what he has done for college football. Go Penn State and Go Joe Paterno!
When the final whistle blew on this game, I turned to my son and said, "There was the greatest example of success, whether on the Penn State football field or in life: no interceptions, no fumbles, no penalties." That's what Joe taught us and stood for. Never forget that!
I love the Buckeyes, but this video was a great pre-game, probably the best I've ever seen, that is all there is to it. Why are we even talking about 8-4 Iowa.
Joe made sure the witness gave his account to the proper individuals, not knowing specific details or whether or not Sandusky was actually guilty. The 1998 incident is actually the REASON Curley decided not to report Sandusky to the DPW in 2001. Why? Because in 1998 Sandusky was fully investigated and admitted to hugging kids in the shower. He wasn't arrested because, while inappropriate, hugging kids in the shower is not a crime. He expressed remorse and said he wouldn't do it anymore.....
Trolls gtfo. Joe Paterno is the best coach, the classiest man, and made everyone believe in this school. Im so grateful to be able to say ive been a fan through his run
I am a Longhorn and the very first book I read as a kid was the autobiography of Franco Harris. at the young of 5 years old I learned about this special man who took the son of an African American war hero and an Italian immigrant mother and was the most influential man in that young man's life besides his father. I've been a fan of this great coach every since! I hope we (Texas) are able to make it through our brutal schedule. we would be honored to face Joe pa in the b.c.s.c.g. Great montage!

Joe Pa, I still say you have over 400 wins, you worked hard and were a great coach you will always be a legend/icon in my mind. Thanks for making Penn State football fun to watch.
Thanks for posting ..... great video. I saw this (obviously without sound) on a TV monitor at Ohio Stadium right before the game ..... just seeing the pictures I had a feeling it was something special.
you were the best coach that this world has ever seen. It's a shame our board of trustees can't distinguish between what is media and what is fact of matter...we'll miss ya Joe. You'll always be in our hearts
I'm also 32, and both my father and grandfather made sure I was a Penn State (and Steelers) fan since birth. JoePa has always been a class act, and a fine human being. Shame on you PSU for not standing up for Joepa someone that dedicated his whole life to the University I guess it's easy to place blame on someone that's not even here to defend himself Ya know what if he's the monster everyone says he is go ahead and give the Paterno family back the millions of dollars they donated to you. No one will ever make me believe that Joepa knew about this and did nothing
Joe Paterno You are the greatest Coach in College History! No matter what happnes All Of us Even God knows that we all made mistakes but you chasnged the world in the postive way thank you, Youy are a legend!
As A Iowa Fan, I must say if we had to lose 1 game a year it would be a honor to lose to Joe Pa. Alot of hawk fans cheer for Penn st when not playing Iowa my second favorite team.. GO HAWKS AND STATE
Love ya Joe Pa... great program you have. I will always enjoy you and Penn State winning as long as its behind the Hawkeyes! Finish the season strong. Go Hawks!
im a michigan fan but i want to dislike this man...but i can't what hes done for that program is astounding. if hes not the best college coach ever than he has to be at least in the top 3 great job by ABC/ESPN for this montage it gives me chills everytime I watch it
Joe is the greatest coach ever and a maker of great men. Joe deserves our love and support and for his name and reputation to be restored. Many of us will not rest until that is done. The media and especially ESPN and the PSU Board of Trustees owe Joe a huge apology. This is a very good and moral man who deserves nothing but our respect and love
Joe has admitted that he didn't realize the severity of the situation, and that, "with the benefit of hindsight" he should have done more. Based on one allegation, he was not certain of Sandusky's guilt, and that is why he did not press the matter. And the fact is, if the only evidence that the jury heard was McQueary's testimony, Sandusky would still be free today. Joe didn't have the benefit of knowing 50 other allegations to convince him of Sandusky's guilt.
I spent the better part of my life going to PSU games, watching him on the sidelines. How do you think they'll do this year? was the question that didn't need reference when my grandfather asked it. It was in reference to PSU and JoePa's team. He's gone now, no longer the coach. But to me, and many like me, he'll always be the coach. And it seems he's not going to be around much longer to see those who'd wish to see his name run through the mud succeed. Thank god for that. He's a great man.
My Dad, Two Uncles and Cousin went to Penn State. My Cousin goes there now. I should've gone there. But no matter, JoePa and Penn State are special to me. JoePa DOES NOT deserve the anger he's been shown. WE ARE PENN STATE! I love you, Joe.
Three things wrong with your statements: 1. Joe Paterno did not set or enforce policy on who can use the school athletic facilities. 2. All sources indicate that Paterno rarely, if ever, saw or interacted with Sandusky after the 2001 incident. 3. Again, Paterno did not know specifics of the allegation or if Sandusky was actually guilty of it. He passed the witness on to the appropriate school officials and he assumed an appropriate investigation would follow.
im not here to debate his legacy, and I have no ties to penn state, but I remember watching this intro/montage when it aired live got choked up and got major goosebumps. it still is one of the greatest intros I've ever seen....

Vance G DeBravo stop spreading lies.
As a Buckeye, I'd say it captures Joe Pa's positive impact at PSU and on college football. Hats off!
Greatest Coach of All Time!
best pregame tease of all time! rest in peace, JoePa.

When JoePa's career comes to an end. He will be remembered as the greatest coaches not only college football, but in the history of the sport. Paterno is a throwback to a bygone era. It's so hard to believe he's gone
Wow...this makes me tear up every time..go get em Nits...win one for the legend.
One thing that will never change. Through this whole thing. Is that we still are and will always be Penn State.
Man, I've got goosebumps all over!
This was awesome. When I saw it live I had to rewind the DVR and watch it again. Joe Pa is the man. Go PSU!
