      @@CalebePriester Part of the "secret" is in the reverb and how he uses it to extend note length in a "ghostly" way. Pay attention if you haven't and you'll notice what I'm saying. It's the difference between average sounding and total muse. Many players would have held notes longer ignoring the verb instead of letting the verb enhance it and do its job.
      Another thing with this one is that he lets that long verb fill spaces where he may have otherwise put another note are repeated the same one. Essentially a type of ghost note.

I can't help but notice that he has more strength and dexterity in his pinky and ring finger than I do with all my functioning digits. He also inspires me (more than any other guitarist) to pick it up and play right now, the dude has way to much fun on that instrument for me to sit around very long and not try to play outside of my usual box, lol. Crazy Poland's solo are just motoring; Insane passages and tone just ripping it up. Mustaine's of course are agressive, fiery, and powerful. Both have great contrast making this album one of the all time greatest.

    • @ligamentpull1
      @ligamentpull1 10 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      He also plays with great tone. You know it is him. For example "Peace Sell but who's buying" is a guitar masterpiece. You can easily distinguishe his solos to Mustaine's who also rips, and brought Jazz muscians like Gar and Chris aboard to achieve just that:-0!

    • @ligamentpull1
      @ligamentpull1 10 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yeah, Friedman is incredible. I don't see Broderick to be in the same league as far as origiality then Poland and Friedman. However, Mustaine insists that he is the greatest player they ever had.
      Some of Mustain's solos do get redundant. He plays mostly in a pentaninc pattern , but has incredible texdarity allows him to do some really wide stretches. His solo in "Holy Wars" is a monster. "Wake up Dead" also has some of his great solos, especially the classical sounding bit during the Mosh part. He plays with so much balls and agression.

    • @ligamentpull1

      Absolutely, but this album was classic. The way Chris incorporated his jazz influence into his playing was incredible. Every other Guitarist after Poland all had great admiration to his unique style and said it was very hard to duplicate.
      Marty I thought also was tremendous. Jeff Young, Pitrelli, Drover, and Chris Broderick all are very talented but never had the same impact I thought as Poland and Friedman.

      In Dave's solos from this video, without the backing track, I feel like the chaotic style really gives his playing an edge.

    The best megadeth combo IMO. Dave is raw energy, rough round the edges but totally engaging; Chris on the other hand is a pure silk gliding over the fretboard, so cool and totally mesmorising. Its a shame they only managed one album together. That being said , Jeff Young does some good work on SFSGSW.

      Poland may be cleaner, but he isn't skilled enough to write climactic and orgasmic solos as Marty. Both are great, but they each played rather different roles in the band; Poland's contribution was more occasional, and his solos are very different from Marty's; Chris Poland approached the solos as aggresive moments of sheer adrenaline and shred, which complemented Mustaine's solos, as they were from the same nature, on the other hand, Marty's solos are more focused on complementing the harmony and the rhythm guitar on the background, contrasting Mustaine's style of playing, creating a great dynamic between both guitarists. Not to mention Peace Sells is more pentatonic-oriented overall, while Rust in Piece added a lot of musicality thanks to Marty's style of playing (Like i mentioned before, he focused more on taking an ambiguous power chord progression and giving it a second meaning through arpeggios, several exotic scales and whatnot).

    I think that the first real line up-Dave, Junior, Poland, and Gar were musically more aggressive musically and more focused on proving themselves as a band so to say. Meanwhile, the Rust In Peace lineup was more about being melodic being compositionally dense. When describing Megadeth albums, Aggressive is the first word that comes to mind when I hear Peace Sells..., and dense when referring to Rust In Peace. I find that 'dense' fits best because the arrangements are the most complex across the board in metal, but complex sounds too 'proggy' / 'nerdy' (prog is not nerdy). I officially coined 'dense' as an adjective for RIP, so if anyone else uses it, they must cite me as a source.

    Jazz training + world music influence + metal context = Chris Poland

    Gonna be honest; I don't give a singular fuck about Dave being "sloppy" because he's still a killer player. Sloppiness is just his style, and it works. Strings ringing out a bit kinda add an interestingly welcome dissonance in his playing. Plus, he was still doing solos far more technically proficient than anyone else was doing in his time, even compared to Chris Poland, whose cleanliness was unrivaled.

    Dave was always sloppy at his soloing... especially hearing him next to Poland were he's crystal clear!

      yeah but that’s just tone. it wouldn’t be as heavy or contrasting if they had the same tone, and also dave’s note choice is superior
