The Godhood Suite is truly an amazing track. I finished the map it belongs to exactly in the ending of the soundtrack, and it fit SO well. It felt truly epic, and the choirs in those last 2 minutes really let me relive that feeling of accomplishment, to the point of almost making me cry. Amazing adaptation, and of course, incredible composition from James Paddock himself!
It’s great to see that someone attempted to do this, but I do have issues with the end result. First: Where are Rotted Roots and Ghostgrinder? Second: The instrumentation is… strange and unfaithful, to say the least. Not an innately bad thing, since the drum and guitar sounds are great, but it seems your DAW has 10 instruments, tops. The identities of the songs are lost when every instrument that isn’t the guitar, choir, piano or drums gets flanderized into the same 5 synth sounds. Third: Godhood Suite is mixed _horribly_ . So much of the entertainment of listening to it is in the little melodies, but they’re all drowned out by the guitar riffs. It begins to sound like Jimmy got lazy and looped the same sections over with no change, since the special ear candy is drowned out. Parts 6, 9 and 10 suffer the worst of this. The piano sound is just too quiet. The idea shows promise and has been done before to great effect by Xeotroid, but maybe keeping the above two complaints in mind, you could very well fill his shoes!
Wow… genuine, honest, constructive criticism. That’s hard to come by nowadays. Thanks for that. I plan on maybe doing a remaster in the future, adding the two missing tracks, and redoing the Godhood Suite from scratch.
