Bottom bouncing for deep Lake Erie walleye

  • I make my own bottom bouncers, fashioned after the “chugging irons” my dad used back in the 50s and 60s. They work like a charm and get my baits to the bottom where most of the walleye on Lake Erie live. I make them out of TIG rod, so they won’t rust and are as tough as nails. Making sure I have them in all sizes assures that I’m ready for any depth walter inhabits.

Chugging iron- only a few of us remember those.

Yep. Our shallow fish (40 fow) moved from a temperature drop on Thursday and we ended up catching them 50 feet down over 92 feet. Erie is a different place for sure. Thanks for watching.

    Why these amd not dipsies

Much easier to use when targeting fish on the bottom in any depth of water and I can go way slower. It makes it easier and a lot more fun for my clients to reel in walleye. Dipseys have their place but bottom bouncers can be utilized in more situations. Thanks for the great question.

Thanks for watching. I use lead from various sources. Old sinkers, wheel and divers weights, lead window sash weights and duck decoy weights!
